President Bush said on Monday advertisements by independent groups attacking Democrat John Kerrys service in Vietnam should be stopped along with all other ads run by independent groups. You call this "condemning" the ads? Because the President is against the multi-million dollar 527 ads against him, I think he felt an obligation to suggest that the Swiftboat ads be stopped.
However, I love the Swiftboat ads and conributed five times to them. They are true American heroes, and I am thankful that their voices are finally being heard. Go Swiftees!

"I think he (Bush) felt an obligation to suggest that the Swiftboat ads be stopped."An Obligation? His obligation is to uphold his Oath of Office and protect our political speech (1st Amendment)....not stop it.

Well, then, he was wrong to do it. In fact, he was wrong to sign the CFR boondoggle in the first place.
But all of that is so minor now, compared to the fact that we should be looking at an obvious landslide and instead we're looking at a 50-50 deadlock.
Look, Kerry's been on the wrong side of every issue since 1971.
And Karl Rove has ignored it all. Or 95% of it. Given Kerry a clean pass on 95% of it.
I don't blame Bush because he's President and it's not his 70-hour-a-week job to strategize a campaign. He does have other things to do. So he relies on the "geniuses" that surround him. And boy, what fools they've turned out to be. Turned a landslide into a squeaker.

Actually, he did not specifically address any 527 ad. He couldn't ~ such a direct reference would have been a violation of the law. BTW, this is something the Dems knew even as they were ranting that he should.

Even Reagan did some things that offend some conservatives (he raised taxes after he had lowered them, for example), but we have to look at the big picture. Bush (and Reagan before him) had to make compromises to stay in power and get some of his agenda through congress. Bottom line: if you don't vote for Bush, you are voting for Kerry. Between the two candidates, who is more liberal and more likely to do damage to our country? Think about it. That's what matters. Voting against Bush because of his few non-conservative deeds should not be cause to chose a liberal to replace him (that is stupid).

Re your post #35, it is obvious that any candidate that Godebert votes for must be as pure as the driven snow. He does not permit any pimples on a candidate's record.
In reality, such a candidate cannot exist, so Godebert just has a field day with his grousing.

Beautifully done...
Troubling pics.... Dems will never win another election this way.

(It's 10 PM on November 2nd, 2004 - DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR VOTES ARE?)
To: Godebert
It would have damaged Bush if he had let the media say that he was behind all the Swift Boat Ads. The media was trying to say he was behind the ads. He had to come out and say he was against all 527 ads, or the media could have hung those ads on him. I'm sure that Bush loved the swift boat ads, but he could not say that. You need to look at the big picture and strategy (you are getting confused with the trees and not seeing the forest). I would love to have seen Bush hammer Kerry more over his record, etc., but evidently that was not the best strategy (maybe Rove did polls that indicated that would have turned some voters off).

We are not going to win these kinds of battles by playing nice. I wish more conservatives understood this.
To: Godebert
He did? When did he condemn them?
To: Hendrix
"maybe Rove did polls that indicated that would have turned some voters off."Probably. Amazing that Americans would be "turned-off" by a president that supported political speech.

John McCain did. And he was wrong. When did Bush condemn the swifties and their ads?
To: TOUGH STOUGH
I agree that I would like to see the republicans hit back harder most of the time, but maybe that turns off the average voter. I'm sure we die hard conservatives love it, but I am not sure how the average voter will react (the type of voter who does not have a clue about politics).

I've already provided a direct quote from President Bush. Are you asking the exact date he made the comments?

Thank you for your service to our country. Sorry
that the politicians kept the war tied up in
politics for so long and tied your hands.

I strongly agree with your post.

If Bush had done everything that you would like and lost the election because of it, would that be a good strategy? What good would it do if we lose?
