Right war, Right time, Right man...New York Daily News endorses W! Great article!
NY Daily News ^

Posted on 10/31/2004 9:10:49 AM PST by God luvs America

The United States is at war — long-term, make no mistake. Muslim fanatics are bent on destroying the rest of humankind. One September morning three years ago, they felled the World Trade Center, struck at the Pentagon and might have smashed the Capitol or the White House had they not been stopped by the heroism of the doomed passengers on a hijacked jetliner. In rage and sorrow, New Yorkers do not forget that terrible day. And we live now in the shadows of menace.

The next President of the United States has no higher duty than to prevent more such catastrophic blows, here or anywhere on these shores, by waging a sustained worldwide assault against the bringers of destruction. As New York's Hometown Newspaper and eyewitness to the devastation that can suddenly rain down, the Daily News prays that the coming commander-in-chief will be up to the task of fighting this great war.....

The News endorsed Clinton and Gore in the three races beginning with 1992, each time judging their domestic agendas in the best interests of the American people. But it is no longer Sept. 10th. The world has changed. And nowhere has it been more tragically altered than in New York. And nowhere are the stakes higher.

Ironic in that their lead-up in the election campaign has been biased against the President, blatant anti-GWB. I fact we Freeped their phone lines on Tuesday after the bogus way the reported the Al Qaqaa story!

I'll take the Daily News' and the NY Post's endorsement any day over the Slimes. If memory serves correct, the Slimes did not even endorse Reagan. The old Grey lady is on her well deserved death bed.

I am actually quite surprised at how conservative they have become. Four years ago they were very liberal.

And this is the paper most read by working-class Democrats and government employees.

four years ago was pre-9/11

you tend to get a new perspective on things when you get a bomb dropped on your head... and, unfortunately, that's what it seems to take to get these libs attention

FLASHBACK:

Bush has not wavered.....

September 20, 2001
Address to a Joint Session of Congress and the American People

(these are snips, obviously)

Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists, and every government that supports them. (Applause.)

Our war on terror begins with al Qaeda, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated. (Applause.)

and every necessary weapon of war -- to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network.

This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion.

Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.

the only way to defeat terrorism as a threat to our way of life is to stop it, eliminate it, and destroy it where it grows. (Applause.)

Terror, unanswered, can not only bring down buildings, it can threaten the stability of legitimate governments. And you know what -- we're not going to allow it. (Applause.)

I ask for your patience, with the delays and inconveniences that may accompany tighter security; and for your patience in what will be a long struggle.

The course of this conflict is not known, yet its outcome is certain. Freedom and fear, justice and cruelty, have always been at war

The Daily News has a true disconnect between news and opinion. The news pages are consistently liberal. The opinion page is much more mainstream.
