Where can I find this video of President Bush last night? (Vanity)

Posted on 11/03/2004 9:15:28 AM PST by mike182d

I just saw it again on CNN right now, but remember when Bush called all the press into the White House to see how confident they were of how things were going?

As they're zooming into President Bush's face, on the end table with the lamp, I could have sworn I saw an icon of the Blessed Mother with the Infant Jesus sitting on the table.

I've seen this clip several times on the news, but if anyone can direct me to a video file (or confirm from their own observation), I would greatly appreciate it!

p.s. I know this isn't "news" per se, but I find it very telling of President Bush's character and the virtue that has been brought to the highest office in the land.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I'll surely bump the thread!

I just saw it and you are right. It is an icon style image of Mary holding the infant Jesus. I believe it is Our Lady of Perpetual Help...it is in Red and Gold. I will research it and see what artisit did that style.

That has to be Jeb and his wife's influence on the family. She is Catholic and I think he converted after they were married.

He did, if memory serves. A member of Jeb's family (maybe his wife? I'm not sure...), right before the 2000 election, went on pilgrimage to Guadalupe, and asked for the Blessed Mother's intercession... and (possibly) even "consecrated" President Bush's presidency to her.

I'll see if I can dig up the details, when I have a moment.

I'm sure that as a Christian, Bush has the highest regard for the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of his Lord. But as a Southern Protestant he is unlikely to venerate her to the extent that Catholics do; Protestants don't go for that kind of thing much. They concentrate more just on Jesus.

It looks like an Orthodox icon. My parents and grandparents all have them. I have one.

Protestants don't go for that kind of thing much.

Maybe contemporary Protestants don't but most of them have never read the writings of Calvin, Luther and Zwingli on the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Bush, Sr. goes every year to Greece for vacation and is fond of the Orthodox traditions.

I don't know but Bush Sr is tight with the retired Orthodox Archbishop Iakovos.

I do not believe it to be "Our Lady of Perpetual Help" as Mary is clothed in Red. Mary is traditionally shown in a blue robe symbolizing her "motherhood." It may be the Virgin of the Passion...
