President Election 2004: An "Unfathomable" Victory for the Incumbent (more Cluelessness in print)
The Simon ^ | 03 November 2004 | Matt Hutaff

Posted on 11/03/2004 7:21:14 PM PST by Lorianne

Either I have gone mad or I live in a country literally overrun by idiots ___ feel like I'm living through Ragnarok.

The Norse Armageddon tale is unique in that all of the participants, powerful gods in their own right, knew long in advance of their deaths yet still fought bleakly towards destiny, powerless to prevent it.

Like that war of yore, the battle lines in the American electorate were drawn long ago. The figurative Winter of Winters has fallen on the literal November 2nd, with Republicans and Democrats alike trudging toward mutually assured destruction.

How else do I explain the ferocity with which yesterday's election was fought, even with the outcome almost supernaturally pre-ordained? As someone who had no personal stake in either candidate but hoped for a Kerry victory, watching the precincts report in on television last night was a trial in and of itself. I cannot fathom how, with record voter turnout, this nation is throwing its weight behind the incumbent.

Millions upon millions of people worked hard for change this year. Even in the face of overwhelming media bias and complicity, I know more people aware of the Administration's malfeasance than I did a year ago. High crimes against humanity have been committed over the past four years. The indignation should have boiled over.

And yet it didn't. For like the unchangeable end prophesied throughout mythology, deep down I felt betrayed by my enthusiasm that Kerry stood a chance against the most corrupt President in history. And like Loki, who in one version of the story lay claim to a world ravaged, I have come unhinged from this reality as my world plummets into chaos.

Either I have gone mad or I live in a country literally overrun by idiots. Where else but the United States can the election map be painted Republican Red despite the record George W. Bush has set in his first term of office? The man lied to start a war. He has plunged this country into an unceasing atmosphere of fear and paranoia, taking some of our most guarded freedoms along with our safety.

He has managed to do more harm in four years than all the other jackasses who held the office did in 200. He is a tyrant more interested in interpreting the Bible as a domestic policy guide than in acting fairly and without prejudice towards his constituents.

And yet the popular vote is his. What an age we live in! It makes me sick to my stomach.

Can this country recover from its election debacle? People are saying we should all unite behind whoever wins. What a pantload! I didn't back Bush at all over the past four years – why should I suddenly embrace him and hope the country manages to quell rising internal dissent? For that matter, why should I herald Kerry as a savior? The only benefit Kerry had is that half of his votes came from angry progressive citizens who were going to hold him accountable and make sure he didn't piss all over the Constitution the way Bush seems to be able to.

This nation has never been more divided. Personally, I think the United States is long overdue for a divorce. New England and the West Coast clearly have a different agenda from the South and the Midwest, so split up into three different nations and let the vast ideological differences overwhelm themselves.

The Grand Experiment has played itself out.

In a way, though, the election results all almost hilarious. The country's path is governed, for lack of a better term, by dumbass rednecks and hillbillies. I can't say enough bad things about the ultra-religious, self-righteous, ignorant bigoted assholes that predominantly populate the South, but I will say this: considering they were once part of a Confederation that wanted no part of the Union's business, they sure have come back and completely ruined their shit. The subjugated have become the subjugators.

Our cultural "elite" in the founding colonies have never been so "owned" in their lives and I find it not only funny but a little poetic that the South has come again, and they did it the same way any shifty bastard grabs power – crooked politics.

Remember Loki? His desire was to rule the earth. He got his wish – too bad his coronation came at the end of time when his province was an utter wasteland. He saw the irony in it and filled the air with a bitter mixture of laughter and tears.

As someone who lives in the proverbial end times, watching as "Blue Collar TV," NASCAR and the end of same-sex marriage overwhelms the mind and common decency, I too throw back my head and laugh the laugh of the damned. There's nothing I can do to stop the coming destruction of my way of life, but as an ideological warrior I still hone my intellect – the finest weapon one can have – and prepare for the inevitable day. For even though I won't survive, I'll have put up a fight.

And then I'll move to New Zealand and get the hell away from this nonsense.

the end of same-sex marriage overwhelms ... common decency

This kind of upside-down thinking is what the Democrats just don't get. To them, this statement makes sense. It's the END of "same-sex marriage" that offends common decency. To all the rest of America, it's the EXISTENCE of it that's offensive.

Whenever I hear the left in one of its periodic fits of self-righteous indignation, I'm always reminded of Pauline Kaehl's comment on the Nixon landslide in 1972. "I just don't understand it," she is said to have remarked. "How COULD he get elected??? Nobody I know voted for him."

For the record, Richard Nixon won the 1972 presidential election by the biggest margin in American history.

Great idea on the Clueless file ... "but as an ideological warrior I still hone my intellect – the finest weapon one can have – and prepare for the inevitable day. For even though I won't survive, I'll have put up a fight"

What this fella and so many others of his kind fail to realize, is that his intellect is consumed by Hate and Lies. A mind so clouded by this type of Hate believes he's right and cannot understand why everyone else is wrong. It must be very lonely.I feel sorry for this soul of intellect, without true purpose, except to hate and tear down that which he cannot understand. Blind Hate can paint you into a corner that borders on insanity.Keep your war & hate to yourself Simon. Honest you'll be safer, we all will

More Schadenfreud Porn for your reading pleasure.

I think they are setting up Suicide Hot Lines in Boston.

Read this:

FEEL THEIR PAIN, ----Its just too much.

I don't think I've ever been this sick at something. My faith in the intrinsic intelligence of humanity is totally destroyed. My colleagues all laughed at me when I said I was moving to Canada if the election didn't go our way, but I'm seriously considering it. I can't stand to watch what's going to happen to our rights.

And now, I get to fly back to Ohio tomorrow and spend the weekend listening to my rabidly Republican family gloat. My cousin is joining the Marines this year when he gets out of High School and my family can't stop harping about how wonderful "Boosh" is and how we should thank God that we have such a strong and good leader in the White House. I wonder what they'll say in his eulogy?

I can't stand this. I can't watch another group of my students fall further and further into the cracks because their families are so focused on survival, the thought of a future doesn't even come into play. I've been phsyically sick since 10:30 last night.

*sigh* Somebody PLEASE tell me that at least after Bush is done raping and pillaging our country the republicans will be locked out of the White House for the next 20 years.

All these articles saying it is the rednecks in the south voting for Bush. Lots of support in these states is from suburbs and exurbs from big cities. Cities like Charlotte and Atlanta are home to major corporations.

It's not all just a bunch of hicks.

Oh, and just because someone goes to church doesn't mean they're ignorant.

Here is where the leftists misunderstand it, in a nutshell,

...watching the precincts report in on television last night was a trial in and of itself. I cannot fathom how, with record voter turnout, this nation is throwing its weight behind the incumbent.

Millions upon millions of people worked hard for change this year...

What they can't understand is that we have been working toward this change for some 30 years. A change away from collectivism toward individual responsibility. A change away from a big national nanny government toward local responsibility. We understand that at the local level, our vote is more powerful among a few thousand than among hundred million.

They cannot understand how anybody could stand in opposition to modernity, with its bellicose athletes, obscene music and films, intolerance toward religious adherants, drug culture, violent government schools, permissive liberal parents, and a government increasingly intent on interfering in the personal lives of families.

Yes, Mr. Lefty, change is what everybody wants. You're just upset that we want to return to the day when personal actions had to be weighed with an eye to the resulting consequences.
