Slightly humorous (well, to conservatives, anyway) site born of post-election radical left bitterness.
This site is called "US out of San Francisco." It lists a petition site seeking to allow CA or just SF, I'm not too clear, to secede.
Judging by the posts to this site, a lot of people are more than willing to sign the "petition" and let the left coast go on it's own...
Look at an electoral map. Most of the state is okay. It's just the Bay area, and the LA area.

Wow,
I know this post is a joke but I've live in the East Bay all my life and it is still a great place to live.....It is really S.F., LA. Oakland and Bezerkely that are the flaming liberal idiots....the rest of the East bay my br more demo but not flaming liberals......most of calif is somewhat conservative, after all, we did vote to make marriage between man and woman and voted for no benefits for illeagal aliens though it was ruled unconstitutional by the left wing supreme court.........hey, i believe Illinois and New York and the New England states had a higher percentage of votes for Kerry than California........they are much much worse than the ENTIRE state of california.....there, that is my 2 cents though you are totally right about the city fo SF.........nice place to visit actually but i wouldn't want to live there for sure
Well, they can secede as long as they are willing to put up with the house burning and the silverware stealing that goes along with it. They set the precedent. March to the sea, through Massachusetts.
In all seriousness, California is a BIG problem. Within the next 20-30 years, it could swell to 70 or more electoral votes. Any candidate who wins this state has 25% of what he/she needs. This is pretty disturbing.
I agree with NetSurfer - only half of California needs to succeed - the western half! My county voted for the President, 62%! Better than many Texas counties. I am sick of the Republicans writing us off. A few years back there was an initiative to split the state - north and south. It should have been - east to west. Look back to CA history - CA originally wanted to join the Union as TWO states, but they were not allowed to because of the slavery issue. The wimps in Congress wanted to keep the pro-slavery/against-slavery factions evenly divided so they wouldn't have to deal with the issue. It's time to DEAL WITH IT! At the very least we should have an initiative that splits our electoral college vote based on popular vote. The dems are always screaming about "DISENFRANCHISED VOTERS". How about the millions of conservative CA voters who never have their vote counted in national elections?
No, not all of the western half. Plenty of good old GOP here on the coast: Ventura, San Diego and Orange counties. We don't plan on seceding with the wing nuts in SF and LA.
I am all for it. I have been saying for years that CA needs to be kicked out of the Union. One state with 55 electoral votes and ideals that seem to come from Mars is dangerous.
No offense meant to any Californians who don't fall into the "Mars" crowd.
Give the entire coastal mountains from Salinas to Oregon to the Ducks in Oregon. The gross national production will be built around smoking dope and feeling superior.
I am a former resident of: San Clemente, La Jolla, Miramar, and San Luis Obisbo. All I can tell you is... MOVE, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! You don't want to be caught in Sodom and Gomorrah... err, umm I mean San Fransisco and Los Angeles, when they go up in cinders to pay for their crimes against humanity. MOVE NOW! You will be more than welcomed in California's version of "Fly-Over Country"!
I think part of the problem is the republican party committe chairman in this state. Sundheim for example. Why in the world did they promote Bill Jones, then when he was elected in the primary ignore him??EGAD! my neighbor could have done a bette job against Babs Boxer. As I posted earlier another part of the problem is redistricting the state is redistricted to suit the democrat.
Thanks for your post. Those who hate all Californians and think we are all liberal are very misguided. If you look at the red/blue map, you will see that it's pretty much ony the cities along the coast of California that voted against President Bush.
I'm already in the friendly part :)
You are right, it's a big problem when four million (plus a few) people voted for Bush in this state and Bush didn't get one single Electoral College vote. Talk about disenfranchised! We who live in the conservative part of California feel like our vote doesn't count.
What needs to be done is either break California into two states (East California and West California) or to give out the Electoral Votes proportionally, according to how the state is split percentage wise. I'm not holding my breath though.
They can have San Francisco. Take down the bridges connecting to the mainland and they need a passport to visit the mainland...
Proportional distribution of the electoral vote would favor the left and severely dilute the need for even having states, sorta like going all popular vote only.
So what do you think should be done? As it stands right now, whoever wins California already has a fifth of the Electoral College Votes needed to win the presidency. Amazing.

Split California into West and East, or even North and South. I think conservatives could take South California. What gives California to the left is the San Francisco Bay area, not so much the Los Angeles area.
