As a proud descendant of hardy Scots, I agree with much of what he says, but he will be vilified by the socialist Brits. My great grandpa hauled himself out of a black coal mine and got out of a blighted area near Glasgow. He couldn't escape his mining background, however, and stayed on working in various deep holes all over the West for the rest of his life. He had guts!

Great article! Though he applies his description to Scots-Irish I think it fairly describes the whole of the nation...with a few "blue" exceptions. This line's perfect..."...when provoked it sees things with a terrible, biblical simplicity. Reference the planes, that's true too. I personally know a few 9/11 folks who are looking down from heaven right now with a big smile on their face giving us all a thumbs-up.

For what it's worth...in the days immediately following 9.11 most of the workers at GZ were civilian volunteers who had given up pay days to crawl around in the rubble that was still smoking and occassionally flaming. My son and I were surprised that we both realized that the large majority of those civilians were visibly Scots-Irish, more than a few still with the brogue. We were not the only group but we were over 70% (not including FDNY guys). It wasn't until Federal Prison Workers and NG troops showed up late on the 13th that we started to see "diverse" faces.
