Reagan's Chief Strategist Weighs In on Election
The Globe and Mail ^ | November 5, 2004 | Dick Wirthlin

On Nov. 2, an elephant charged across the U.S. electoral map -- an elephant named Ronald Wilson Reagan.

To be sure, President George W. Bush and his chief strategists, Karl Rove and Matthew Dowd, deserve enormous credit for engineering the first presidential campaign in 16 years to capture more than 50 per cent of the popular vote. But to understand the magnitude and method of their achievement, it is necessary to examine how two Reagan-induced forces -- a "rolling" realignment and values-based communications -- coalesced to help produce Mr. Bush's victory.

In February of 1980, Mr. Reagan asked me to serve as his chief strategist and pollster.

"Certainly gives us hope, but is Wirthlin correct?"
Well, he certainly makes sense. To an extent he is speaking about the future - one could hope he's correct, and try to bring it about.

If this guy happens to be correct, then 15-20 years from now the entire country will descend into the ninth level of Hell. Oral sex in public, 90% taxation, etc...Clintoon's legacy in other words.

Ann Coulter who recently pointed out that had W hammerred harder on 'Values' and 'Moral Issues' in PA and MI, he would have carried them as well.

She was touting the great wisdom of THE 'architect', as W calls him. I think that was a character in the worst of the Matrix films.

There is no question whatsoever that GWB is RWR's true political heir. GWB, understood, built on, and expanded RWR's legacy in a way no other Republican has since the Great Communicator left the White House. I also believe that, while RWR was the last genuinely great president of the 20th Century, GWB is first great president of this new 21st Century. If he can pull off what he's planning to in this term, he'll go down as one of the greatest leaders of all time.

If he can pull this off, he will join the great Republican Presidents, and the great Presidents in general.

Lincoln, Reagan, and Bush

Some time . . . when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys - tell them to go in there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then, . . .. but I'll know about it, and I'll be happy.

President Bush is one of the greatest presidents, like Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln or George Washington.
