Nov. 15 issue - The attack of the swift boat vets did not catch the Kerry campaign by surprise, not entirely at least. Kerry's operatives had worried from the beginning that some right-wing group would try to use his old Vietnam antiwar speeches against him. In the summer of 2003 the Kerry campaign had quietly made some inquiries with C-Span, asking the cable network not to release old videotapes of Kerry as an angry young vet fulminating about war crimes and atrocities. Portions of his sometimes overwrought testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971 could be twisted into an attack ad, the Kerryites feared. They were told not to worry: the rules prohibited the use of the tapes for political advertising. (When the Swift Boat vets made ads attacking Kerry with images from his 1971 testimony, they used a voice-over, an actor reading Kerry's words.)

Thank God CSPAN resisted the pressure. I was glad to be able to see Kerry's Senate testimony and the Dick Cavett debate. Those are legitimate info about a candidate, and an objective media should not try to cover up the facts.
Twisting?! Twisting was NOT necessary. Just read a transcript!
Not many people cared about the status of the medals Kerry won in 1968. But his testimony, falsely accusing his comrades of systematically committing war atrocities, destroyed his crebility with veterans.
Old Navy Pilot thank you to the Swifties. You saved this country twice.
I just hope that the Swift Vets and all other VN vets feel some vindication after this, and perhaps that some small justice has been done, though long-delayed.

If only O'Reilly would have resisted the pressure as well. Many times, he outright called these brave men "liars."
How were they "misleading"? Newsweek simply states that as a fact, without evidence.

Oh Kerry knows he fabricated those commendations, his crewmates knew he lied and his C.O. knew he lied and now the whole world knows he lied!
Semper Fi,
Kelly
Now that Kerry is beaten, we need to pursue the release of his records. Not to destroy him, but to finally get the facts out that the "Old Media" refused to question. They repeatedly called everyone liars that did not accept everything Kerry told them as truth.
For me, not the point.
For most, military service is unpleasant at best. The only reward is the honor and respect you get for having served your country. Kerry, Fonda, Hayden and the rest stole that from us, to use for their own purpose.
I'm just happy I don't have to look at Kerry's face on the news for the next 8 years and be reminded of it. For that, I'm extremely gratefull to all that made his defeat possible.
> ... the Kerry team suffered from their slow response.
They keep repeating this, as if making it a mantra somehow
makes it true. They problem wasn't the "swiftness" of the
response, it was that there was no credible response. All
they could do was vainly shout "liars" and pretend that UFC
was "debunked". Anyone who checked, knew otherwise.

And this is why the digging on Kerry's history must
continue. The legacy and leftist media is STILL covering
for him.
> Kerry ... "We need to get these guys,"
Then why didn't he sue for libel. If the SBVFT were in
fact lying, their activities easily rose above the bar
set for libel of a "public figure". Kerry and his people
certainly had no reluctance to threaten suits against
the publisher and bookstores, on any grounds except libel.
What a hit piece on the vets, the lame stream can't get over they were end run, to the American people.
