I think we fell into a leftie ambush. The "Specter warns" story that started this "crisis" was written by AP's Lara Lakes Jordan.

http://www.nola.com/newsflash/topstories/index.ssf?/base/politics-0/109952124527450.xml&storylist=politics

=====

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=32268

It was a set-up. It was what we call in the news business a "hatchet job." Rick Santorum is a young, good-looking, articulate conservative in the Senate's Republican leadership. He was deliberately targeted by a political activist disguised as a reporter – Lara Jakes Jordan.

I invite you to read her original story and see for yourself how it is dripping in venom. It's an editorial camouflaged as a news story. And she wrote it for the largest and most powerful news-gathering operation in the world, ensuring it would get maximum play in newspapers throughout the world.

Who is Lara Jakes Jordan?

For starters, she is married to veteran Democratic Party operative Jim Jordan, the former executive director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and manager of Sen. John Kerry's presidential bid.

Not surprisingly, the Massachusetts Democrat was among the first to criticize Santorum's remarks, using it as an opportunity to attack the White House. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Kerry got an advance copy of the article given his connections.

But there's more to the Lara Jakes Jordan story.

In January of this year, Mrs. Jordan was one of the signatories on a letter to her bosses at the AP attacking the news organization for "rolling back diversity" by not extending benefits to domestic partners.

In a symbolic move, the signatories to the letter returned key chains AP management gave them to "celebrate" its corporate diversity. The key chains carried the slogan: "AP Diversity: Many Views, One Vision.

It seems Mrs. Jordan's ideological fervor is not reserved only for her private life and her corporate politicking. This woman clearly ambushed Santorum on an issue near and dear to her bleeding heart.

I've been in the daily news business for 25 years. When I got started a quarter century ago, there was an old newsroom saying that went like this: "I don't care if you sleep with elephants as long as you don't cover the circus."

Mrs. Jordan violated that old newsroom ethic. She abdicated her right to cover the circus because she was sleeping with an elephant – or, in this case, a donkey.

That's why I say these catcalls for the head of Rick Santorum are nothing more than a political sideshow. It's not Rick Santorum who should be forced from office for clearly stating views that have been considered mainstream for the last 5,000 years. It's Lara Jakes Jordan who should be drummed out of the news profession for scoring cheap political points under the guise of news reporting.

It's not Rick Santorum who should apologize to anyone. It's the Associated Press for sponsoring this political hit piece.

Well, I just joined, and we are now up to 555! Signed the petition too, and will call Frist's and Santorum's offices Monday (already sent the emails yesterday).

Keep up the good work, they are hearing us!

Arlen Specter:

Voted NO on ending special funding for minority & women-owned business. (Oct 1997)

Voted NO on banning affirmative action hiring with federal funds. (Jul 1995)

And voted in favor of many other feminist bills. I'm a fathers' rights advocate and have seen the many times that feminists gleefully plotted in their discussions to "infiltrate" Republican "discourse" in order to undermine us. That's exactly where the misinformation (in favor of Specter) is coming from with one or two disruptors on each of these threads. Feminists have used the tactic of pretending to be members of the Party they hate (ours) for more than 150 years. Even many who claim to be anti-abortion protest loudly every time we try to outlaw such evil murder.

Procede to Bork Specter. He, like Wellstone, seeks to help feminists (both male and female feminists) to destroy the family and funnel lots more cash to lawyers by way of higher divorce rates, etc.

And I'm adding others to the effort.

Signed the petition and gave a donation.

Why do they need money? What are they going to do that we can't do individually?

The Specter should have been stopped in the primary, then nin the general with votes for Clymer. Unfortunately, conservative Republicans engaged in the kind of "party loyalty" that undermines itself and puts a guy who got campaign money from George Soros in charge of passing the President's judicial nominees. Now they want to be rescued from the consequences of their own mistakes.

The Specter must be stopped, but people have got to think about these kinds of consequences before supporting any more of these RINOs.

I didn't read her story. I heard him say it with his own mouth.

Great. Quote please...

The transcript of his remarks that I read didn't threaten to vote against Bush's nominees at all.

Yes, I saw the transcript. He was talking about the Dem filibusters, not threatening to vote against Bush's nominees.

For some reason "conservatives" seem eager to take a Kerry operative's wife's claim about Specter threatening Bush as gospel and yet ignore Specter's statement that his words were taken out of context, ignore the fact that he has voted for all of Bush's nominees in the past, ignore Grassley's remarks that Specter will be reliable, and ignore the fact that Frist can yank Specter off the committee if Specter does try to sabotage Bush's picks.

Lara Lakes Jordan must be thrilled at the blood-fest she has caused among Republican Senators. And now we even have threads on FR accusing Bush and Santorum of treason over this...

Other reporters besides Jordan ran the same story. Wake up and smell the coffee.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that Sen. Specter trashed the president in a manner worthy of Streisand one day after he won in the GOP primary.

Even if none of this happened, a man who jabbered about Scottish law on the Senate floor like a maniac should not be in charge of the judiciary committee. Did you see the look on Chief Justice Rehnquist face when Specter was spouting that nonsense. Rehnquist ordered his verdict changed.

I don't know about you, but I think Chief Justice Rehnquist is a good enough authority to know if Specter is qualified, and he thinks Specter is a loon.

Other reporters ran the story AFTER Jordan... I'm still waiting for the quote from you where Specter "warns" Bush he'll veto his nominees.

It should be really easy to find given the fact that everyone is talking about it, it caused us to demand our GOP Senators turn against each other, and there have probably been about 50 threads about this in the last few days. Let's see the quote...
