I think Bush's rational is that the millions of citizens of Mexico who would be flooding over the border won't be bringing savings accounts, retirement plans of their own, health insurance or much of anything -- many will be arriving when they are in their 40's and 50's and 60's --- how else can they be provided for? So he will give our Social Security retirement to them. Also many poverty-stricken illegals will want to bring in elderly relatives --- if they can work just 18 months --- that will be a very nice benefit they can have.
Vicente Fox has already condemned the American voters for their support of Proposition 200 and demanded it be dropped. He believes he can dictate our laws --- he cares nothing at all for our democratic process or what the American people think of anything.
I don't think this means much of significance. The idea of reform is that people don't get "their promised benefits"......because we can't afford to pay them out.
The sooner that people get it through their thick skulls that this is the case, the sooner we can get on with true reform.
This nonsense that people can have their social security cake and eat it too is the problem......privatization WILL kill social security as we know it -- that is the appeal of the idea. Sure, we can SAY that everyone gets their benefits anyway, but the numbers just don't add up.
I remember those that told us before the election, we shouldn't be discussing this epic invasion, made the republicans look bad, and they would take care of it, right after the election.
We're about ready to see how he intends to spend that political capital he spoke of. No, they didn't waste any time.
WOW! Those polls think I should be able to use my OWN MONEY for my OWN RETIREMENT!
Gee, thanks! For those opposed: bite me!
