WHEN THE H*LL WILL WE DEFUND NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO?
KPFK | 11-7-04 | dfu

Posted on 11/07/2004 3:01:13 PM PST by doug from upland

While doing some painting today, I wanted to listen to some talk radio. Unfortunately, Sunday is not a good day for talk radio. The only thing I found on was . . . . . KPFK -- public radio.

I listened to "Counterspin" and "Spotlight Africa." I was in the vomitorium.

I hadn't listened for awhile. These people are nuts. I wanted to throw my radio.

The anti-American and anti-conservative and anti-Bush crap that they are putting out on the air is overwhelming and sickening. Because I believe in free speech, I don't advocate that we shut them up. But I don't want to pay for it. Let them compete in the arena of ideas as we do.

One show was attacking our election. Of course, we cheated. Both Americans and foreigners are claiming that. One foreign "expert" said that our election would not even pass the test in Africa. Who in the hell do they think they are to tell us about how to run an election. For well over 200 years, we have had peaceful elections.

Our war is racism. Blah blah blah. With Bush in charge, it is like they are on the plantation again. Blah blah blah. It was another stolen election. Blah blah blah.

A caller from San Bernardino said that the African nations should withhold their oil from us. He wants demonstrations in the street and strikes. He does not want to accept this election.

When they are finished in Fallujah, I want the Marines to prepare a siege on KPFK. I don't want to pay for this any longer!

Where does most of their federal funding come from? It helps to know where their Achille's heel is.

I was just watching Fox's Sunday show and realized that the two conservative commentators held real jobs; the liberals were on the public dole (NPR). Hmmm, indeed.

A caller from San Bernardino said that the African nations should withhold their oil from us...

I agree. ANWAR is the solution. We should also defund attempts by people to live in desert and draw water from its natural places. That would make San Bernardino drier than it is today, wouldn't it?

only 10% of their $100mil budget is public money, the rest comes mostly from corporations and the balance from beg-a-thons. $10mill is still $10mill too much money.

20 years ago would have been fine with me. Since that hasn't happened NOW would be a great time to do it!

I couldn't agree more. Can you imagine if tax dollars paid for a minute of Fox News, Hanity, Rush or any non liberal program. Why should tax money support NPR? Another double standard.

The fact that it won't be defunded is proof the elected Republicans are mostly gutless weinies.

NPR hasn't received direct federal funding for several years (see this); however, it does receive some indirect federal money through other organizations that are directly funded. These days, it's mostly supported by private donations, corporate sponsorship, and a few program grants.

Congress should pull NPR's and PBS's non-profit, tax exempt status. There are enough alternative outlets that NPR and PBS don't need a tax advantage. Let the two outlets compete for advertising dollars like the rest of the industry.

NPR is totally unfair to the American taxpayer. Why should we have to fund liberal, far-left radio??? At least we have the option to buy, or not to buy, the New York Slimes. Your money is being TAKEN FROM YOU TO FUND NPR...in reality.

NPR should be put off the air, like Al Jazeera (sp?).

However, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a government-funded nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967, funnels tax dollars to some 700 NPR affiliates nationwide in the form of Community Service Grants (CSGs).

There are a whole lot of publicly funded organizations that need to go. PBS, NPR, and the NAACP are but a few.

Doug- I'd be happy to help in any way I can. My question i- what about the NPR stations that are run by state universities? These universities raise tuition by 10% or more each year, and yet continue to fund the commie radio stations. The stations of course ask for more and more money, yet I believe their listenership is declining. It's a waste of taxpayer money in so many ways.
