If Specter gets his Chairmanship, let's boycott Santorum in 2006 (A Threat)

Posted on 11/07/2004 3:05:58 PM PST by Remember_Salamis

We must make it perfectly clear to Rick Santorum that if he lets Specter chair the judiciary committee, we WILL NOT SUPPORT HIM in 2006 for Senate. Instead, we will support Pat Toomey.

We must also make it perfectly clear to Bill Frist that if he does not block Specter Chairmanship, he might as well not even enter the 2008 primaries.

Both of these men hold the power over Specter and we must threaten to boycott their futures if they ignore their base.

Exactly. He can right his wrong, or face the wrath of his base in 2006.

I also see a good chance to send Frist the message that he has ZERO chance in the 2008 primaries (if he even has a chance now) if he puts Specter in the Chairman's seat.

With all due respect--stuff it.

Bad analogy. Dubya isn't running for anything in 2008. But we can send the message that if the GOP doesn't listen to the base regharding immigration, we will stay home.

Santorum does not control this--heck, he's not even on the committee.

It's amazing you pretend to know so much, but in reality know so little.

Here's Santorum's defense (from the July-August 2004 Crisis Magazine):
Probably the issue of concern to most Catholics is the thought that Senator Specter will be in charge of moving President Bush’s judicial nominees out of the Judiciary Committee. I’m constantly reminded of his vote on Judge Robert Bork (though let’s not forget his questioning of Anita Hill during Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s confirmation hearings).

The reality is Senator Specter has supported all six of President Bush’s filibustered judicial nominees this session, both in committee and on the floor. Furthermore, he has said that when he becomes chairman of the Judiciary Committee, he’ll live by the bill he introduced in Congress last year that requires all judicial nominees who have the approval of their home-state senators to be reported out of the Judiciary Committee promptly.

Senator Specter, who has voted for every Bush judicial nominee, has said repeatedly that he doesn’t apply a litmus test for judges. I know this for a fact because during the last three years, the senator and I have joined together to nominate 20 judges to the federal bench, including six Democrats. From the public information available about those nominees, all were conservative jurists and to my knowledge—with one exception—were also pro-life.

I once sold a hot dog to John Kerry. That sustained him until his next meal. I guess I helped him continue his pro-abortion jihad. Ought I refrain from Holy Communion, as well??

Santorum made a mistake on this one. Otherwise he has been first rate in every other way.

And Frist is pretty good. Moreover someone said he was planning to step down. After all, he's a doctor with other interests in life.

If anyone's to blame it's Bush and Rove, who probably twisted Santorum's arm and persuaded him to speak out. Now it's Bush's job to control the Frankenstein monster he helped create.

What's your deal man? Santorum vouched for Specter's ability to chair the Judiciary committee, so let's hold his feet to the fire. I see you're backing Santorum in 2008 for Prez. I think Santorum is a very god man, but I think he went spineless during the primaries and needs to right his wrong.

How do you feel about telling Frist that he can forget about running in 2008 if he let's specter get on there???

He's #3 in GOP Senate leadership, from the same state as Specter, and his endorsement of Specter was key in him defeating Toomey. If you don't think Santorum has pull, you're crazy!

You guys running around wanting to boycott people over something that will likely get resolved in the Republican Senate Caucus are hysterical.

In more ways than one.

From the mouth of Santorum in August 2004:

"Senator Specter, who has voted for every Bush judicial nominee, has said repeatedly that he doesn’t apply a litmus test for judges. I know this for a fact because during the last three years, the senator and I have joined together to nominate 20 judges to the federal bench, including six Democrats. DO YOU BELIEVE IN ACCOUNTABILITY???

Because of his staunch support of an infanticide-promoter like Specter, Santorum should join Kerry in refraining from Holy Communion.

No, he shouldn't.

Toomey would have cost the Republicans a seat in the Senate, as he could not have beat Hoelfel.

I didn't say he was, but a Republican will be running for President. I suggested we threaten him (GOP, same thing, we all know GWB isn't running) with voting dem, you suggest we threaten him with staying home. I doubt that's going to be effective. The time for that message in in 2006 and 2008, and in the primaries.

Kosher or Oscar Meyer? Did he eat it or go out to the bus for shrimp vindaloo?

You've been on enough Keyes threads to know that doesn't matter.

And here I thought that circular firing squads were a particularly left-wing phenomenon.

This all doesn't sound very tolerant. Does not the Republican Party sport a pretty damn big tent?

What's this "WE" taking point? You got an Amish in your pocket? Your profile says you're in Hawaii.

You take care of defeating Inouye. We Pennsylvanians like Santorum fine, THANKS.

This makes no sense. Perhaps you could cut a deal with Karl Rove - don't try to do his job, and he wont try to do yours.
