CBS 60 minutes says oops .... again
60 Minutes
Posted on 11/07/2004 6:12:04 PM PST by ragman
Sunday night the 60 Minutes crew corrects last Sunday's story on the under supplied National Guard troops. It states that when they said that other guardsmen were killed by improperly protected vehicles, that they were wrong that the information given them by the guard was incorrect. Seems appropriate that the retraction came right after Andy Rooney's remark about liberal media. He found only half supported Kerry and the other half hated Bush.

It is also natural that an apology would occur only after it could not do any good, with the election over and all that.

I recommend they cancel 60 minutes and apologize for having foisted it on the unsuspecting public for all these years.
To: ragman
Will Rather and the whole of CBS/Viacom just shut up and go the f#$k away already? All of them, every last one of them down to the last V-J on MTV. All of the pimply faced counter workers at Blockbuster. All of the whining lie-berals who want CA, OR, and WA to secede off into their own little DUtopia called "PRANCE". The aftermath of the election is worse than the build-up to it.

They should just admit it: They run an errors segment, a Rooney segment, and an apology segment.
To: ragman
And the CBS crew didn't bother to check to see if that one guardsman was wrong before they aired the piece.
PATHETIC!

I am still mad at CBS for cancelling Garfield and Friends in 1995.

Oops, they did it again! Misstated their facts, biased against Bush. Why don't they check their facts, try telling the truth? They're not that intelligent.
To: Ptarmigan
The Bush bashing aside, how many times have they had to come back after the fact and say they were wrong about the facts of a report or that they jumped the gun on a story. It`s gone beyond ridiculous! Did they have "Manimal" or was that NBC? Sadly I liked that one.

This seems to be the new M.O. for the lamestreamers. Run a story, be it slightly inaccurate, a little misleading, or a flat-out lie, on the front page or as the lead story on a telecast, and then run a wimper of a retraction a week later buried in the back of the paper or at the end of the show. Their days are numbered, and they know it.

They've just been doing it more often, and on bigger stories, recently.

...Why don't they check their facts,......they were wrong about the facts...This is CBS we're talking about here. Facts are not a consideration. The criteria is what will sway the opinion of the lowest level of society who watch their programs. If someone told them that there were facts involved in a story they would be terrified to put it on the air.

Will Rather and the whole of CBS/Viacom just shut up and go the f#$k away already? As long as there's botox, wigs, padded shoulder suits and support pantyhose, they will creak into the studio holding onto their walkers, and lie for the Democratic party.

I was certain that I read documents which stated that was the case.
It must have been his ratings that I was reading about!

They blame the false reporting on the Guard......
Something tells me they never checked that issue with the Guard.
I would not be surprised to find out that 99 percent of the story was false!
They did this the sunday before the election...
CBS is pathetic.

This was no accident. It wasn't shoddy reporting. It was a purposeful attempt to sway the election with a story they knew to be false. The did it with the fake memos too.
Although I'm not sure it was illegal, I'm sure it doesn't meet their FCC requirements to maintain licenses for their stations. CBS stations should lose their licenses.

I did not watch 60 minutes, but did this really happen? Just before an election, they run as story that might effect the outcome, and then they publish a retraction after the election is over? That is like a prosecutor waiting until the defendant is executed before retracting some of the evidence.
