ACTION ALERT: UNIVERSAL PSYCHIATRIC SCREENING OF CHILDREN
Association of American Physicians and Surgeons ^ | November 10, 2004 | Nick Danger

Posted on 11/10/2004 3:35:06 PM PST by Nick Danger

PATIENT ALERT

Action needed by Nov. 16th

TELL SENATORS TO

JUST SAY NO!

TO UNIVERSAL PSYCHIATRIC SCREENING AND DRUGGING CHILDREN

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Senate will re-convene the week of Nov. 15 with the sole purpose of passing an omnibus appropriations bill - work left incomplete before the elections.

Included in the current version of the appropriations bill is funding for grants to implement universal mental health screening for almost 60 million children, pregnant women, and adults through schools and pre-schools.

The bill would fund initiatives of the "New Freedom Commission on Mental Health," including a program designed to subject every school age child in this country to psychological testing and recommendations for treatment - including psychotropic drugs, antidepressants, etc.

The House has already voted to appropriate $20 million for the scheme, and the Senate wants to bump it up to $44 million.

This is a dangerous scheme that will heap even more coercive pressure on parents to medicate children with potentially dangerous side effects. Further, even the government’s own task force has concluded that mental health screening does little to prevent suicide.

Call your Senators & Majority Leader Sen. Bill Frist, M.D. (202) 224-3121

or email a ready-to-go letter in less than one minute: www.AAPSonline.org

EVERY CALL AND LETTER MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Heck yes, me too.

I'll take care of my child's mental state, keep the govt. out of it. Seem's a pretty easy step towards Stepfordizing kids.

like, doo-ude, I can see this is freaking nazi-esque. i just can't see why doctors would oppose it. Then i realized that this is apparently a break-away group that perhaps is made up of people who think about more than their freaking 40 foot fishing boats and hair transplants.

just love to know the AMA's position...

You might change that thinking...

AAPS opposes federal mandates for vaccines, on principle, on the grounds that they are:

  1. An unconstitutional expansion of the power of the federal government.
  2. An unconstitutional delegation of power to a public-private partnership.
  3. An unconstitutional and destructive intrusion into the patient-physician and parent-child relationships.
  4. A violation of the Nuremberg Code in that they force individuals to have medical treatment against their will, or to participate in the functional equivalent of a vast experiment without fully informed consent.
  5. See The Flu Vaccine: Is It Really Safe and Effective? http://home.sprynet.com/~gyrene/flu.htm
  6. A violation of rights to free speech and to the practice of one's religion (which may require one to keep oaths).

AAPS would specifically oppose the campaign for universal immunization against hepatitis B, even if the above did not apply, because the safety of the vaccine is in question.

For more articles addressing concerns by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons about hepatitis B vaccine and other vaccine risk issues, please go to:
www.aapsonline.org  and
www.aapsonline.org/vaccines/costs.htm

They have also fought to keep patients' medical records private, and even wrote a statement on Terri Schiavo: (they say she is not on life support, and if her family wants to care for her, they should be allowed to).

No, they are just freedom loving doctors. They are also against putting doctors in jail for writing "too many" pain killer prescriptions.

It is compassionate conservative Bush and company that are pushing this monstrosity. Will all the real conservatives stand up and say that this is wrong. please.

Scratch my initial response. I completely misread this statement of yours:

Then i realized that this is apparently a break-away group that perhaps is made up of people who think about more than their freaking 40 foot fishing boats and hair transplants.

I switched the words (dyslexia or something) and read it as: "people who think more about their freaking 40 foot fishing boats.."

My brain skipped the "than". I am very sorry!

Dude, this is scary. And dolling out psychotropic drugs to children is wrong and dangerous. However, I am not surprised. I'm waiting for the bill commanding us all to wear a computer chip under our skin. Trust me that that one's coming.

They are against it, because of what has happened in the past.

Agencies and schools were paid extra funds based on # of disabilities. Thus the system built in incentive to proscribe ritalin to kids who were just a little hyperactive. Kids have ended up with damaged organs, unable to ever serve in the military, and negatively labeled for the rest of their lives.

It's not that they are against finding real problems. It's just they don't trust the government to build a system that truly and fairly screens kids and doesn't have a built in incentive for the bureacrats to continue the program and preserve their jobs by finding problems whether or not those problems are real.

AAPS is the alternative to the AMA. AMA membership is declining as it has been supporting a host of leftist alternatives for 20 years or more.

Those who run AAPS do yeoman's work trying to preserve private medicine. They were in the front lines against Hillary Care.

Wholesale mental health screening is a crock. In one state the entity that was supposed to draw up the test was the State Board of Education. Bunch of experts there, all right. Not that it matters. Did you know that the mental health types vote on what should and should not be considered a mental disorder?

The main point to keep in mind is that you do not want your kid's school involved in his medical care in any way, shape, or form. The potential for authoritarian abuse is simply too great. Like the school that went to child protective services after parents informed it that they were putting their child on a Ritalin holiday. Thanks to the school a judge forced the parents to put the kid back on Ritalin until they could find an equal and opposite shrink to recommend that he be taken off.

I dated a doctor and when I dumped her, you should have heard the "diagnosis" she gave me! I'd hate to have her on the screening panel.

you know, the absolute worst things that have happened to me, in business and personal ventures, have involved doctors. that's no exaggeration. I'm sure there's a pattern and it has something to do with the absolute dehumanizing of medical students.

Ditto. I received a PHONE CALL telling me I had cancer. When I inquired as to the original symptoms that sent me to the doctor in the first place, he yelled at me: "What, you think you have cancer there TOO?"

I found another doctor and am 100% better. :) Bedside manners are nearly extinct.

This is already a bill on the Governor of Illinois desk. Pregnant woman will also be screened for depression. School children will be screened periodically without parental permission. There is a group in Texas that has already drawn up a Declaration of Refusal, meaning that they will under no circumstances let their children be screened for mental illness by the government.

http://www.illinoisleader.com/news/newsview.asp?c=19522

I don't know if Bush wanted this to go as far as it has in Illinois.

They are the author and AAPS and everyone else who is against government screening.

There are some things that make sense to screen. Vision, hearing, dislexia, etc. Mental Health isn't one of them.

We should have mental screenings for government employees though.

The overbloated government has no business doing this, or 98% of what they do stick their big marxist noses in.

I have updated my FMCDH (From My Cold Dead Hands) sign-off with the addition of (BITS).....Blood In The Streets, which I foresee coming soon, due to the enormous increase of the Marxist progressive movement being shoved down the throat of this failing REPUBLIC through the Judicial tyranny of fiat law, the passing of unconstitutional laws by the Legislative and Executive branches of our government and the enormous tax burden placed upon the average American to support unconstitutional programs put forth by Marxist ideology.

Criminals Guarding The Cell Block
Expand Their Reach to Hold All Americans Hostage

It's imperative that high ranking public servants -- those that wield the power of federal and state governments -- are of utmost integrity. Frankly, the majority of high ranking politicians and bureaucrats are at the low end of the integrity scale.

Consider the level of harm a petty criminal does when he robs a car stereo or pick-pockets a person's wallet. One victim will be out a few hundred dollars and the inconvenience of having to report their credit cards and some personal information stolen.. The petty thief may rob one person a day. In their lifetime as a "career" thief they may rob five-thousand people.

Whereas politicians and bureaucrats defraud  millions of people in one fell swoop. Doing that dozens of times each year. With that magnitude of potentially destructive power it is obvious that the primary job qualification for high ranking public officials is unequivocal, exemplar integrity.

The high degree of pandering, class warfare and  deception demonstrated by government officials is appalling considering that the job qualifications call for zero dishonesty.

So, the Gov. is going to tell us if our kids are in need of drugs? And, by what standards does one have to be, sound-of -mind to be considered ok? Who will keep all of this documentation? What if I do not want my kids to see a gov. paid hack? Will they imprison me and claim me to be unfit? They can kiss my @ss!

I was perturbed by this when it first came up.

But I felt immediately wary.

But I thought of the many children who'd benefit.

Then I thought of the heavy hand of the global government looming and probably having it's hand in setting this up.

I think on sum, I'm against it. Hard for a psychologist to say. But I'm against it.

Let Churches or NGO's or some other such handle such things--but NOT big government.
