Tom Brokaw Received Boos at University of Oklahoma/Nebraska Game
Eyewitness | Nov 13, 2004 | PhiKapMom

Posted on 11/13/2004 9:16:02 PM PST by PhiKapMom

It was announced during the second half that Tom Brokaw was in attendance at the University of Oklahoma/Nebraska game at Owen Field in Norman. The minute he was announced, you could hear loud boos from around the stadium.

Have no idea how he had the nerve to return to OU after his debacle of a speech for graduation last May. I think he received louder boos then when Nebraska came out, and even more than the penalty we got for fans throwing oranges onto the field near the end of the game.

Chalk this one up to flyover country that detests the mainstream news media. You probably will never hear this from the media except our local radio but it was hilarious. Everyone around where we sit are Bush fans and after they stopped booing, they started laughing at the reaction of everyone. Then they launched into a discussion about how biased the so-called mainstream media was in the election and how people like Brokaw should stay out of the red states. It made me really proud of the Sooner fans -- this truly is Bush Country.

Southeast conference story told to me by an Alabamian:

AUBURN = "Alabama Usually Beats Us 'Round November",

(UT = "Us Too")

AUBURN could also = Alabama Usually Beats Us Red Necks.

In my opinion, AU shouldn't be able to play for the NC while on probation. The entire school is on scholastic probation.

What you missed is what was said and how it was said -- I have it on video and the video does not match the words in what was listed as his address. Parts are left out in the written version. He rambled in his spoken version. If he had given the written version, it would have been better. I have the complete speech on video and can assure you he did not follow his script.

Same thing happens with White House speeches if the President veers off the written speech -- only the written speech gets put on line.

You guys have some of the best fans in college football -- I go with the Roll Tide! All of our fans that made the trek to Alabama loved the hospitality of the Alabama fans! You guys are the best!

I wondered what had happened -- it was the oddest called game I had ever seen and I thought we saw it all under John Blake and it was bad.

You guys will be back -- look what the Sooners went through in the 90's. Then we can have our real rivalry back!

Stuff it! Obviously you are not a football fan that is passionate about their team. BTW, the opposing fans always boo when our team comes out too. No one gets upset -- usually don't boo but I did against Brokaw! Maybe it is just the Big 12 but somehow I doubt it!

It made our paper this morning:

WORST RECEPTION

Oddly with about seven minutes to play in the third quarter, the P.A. announcer let loose with something like, "And now, down o the field, joining University of Oklahoma President David Boren, NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw."

Perhaps more odd, the Sooner fans booed the rations leader among the national news anchors.

As one person sain in the pressbox, "It's not like it was Dan Rather down there with Boren."

Because Baylor has a really tough time in the Big 12 and probably about 50% of the fans are Baptist!

Thats good. Someone else mentioned that little red is no longer a mascot for Nebraska because of liberals. What happened with him? I take it he was the guy dressed in red overalls?

kewl!

10 years ago i threw my tv in the dumpster after i saw how phony the 4 major networks (abccbscnnnbc) treated presidents bush senior and clinton:

peter jennings said, while george senior was golfing, "why isn't he doing the people's work"?

meanwhile, enter president clinton. he went golfing frequently but was never asked by jennings why he wasn't "doing the people's work".

the term itself is socialist.

I used to spend a lot of time in Oklahoma. I've been to Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Muskogee, Norman, Duncan, Lawton, Vinita, and most every other city in Oklahoma several times. It took our series of games for most Bama fans to realize that OU has great fans. I had already known that for several years.

We're pulling for you guys to win the national championship. Go Sooners!!!!

Little Red was the mascot at OU, until about 1972. Little Red was always chosen from the American Indian population of the university for his traditional dancing skill. Nothing and no one did a better job of motivating the fans than Little Red, with music from the band.

Little Red was put out of business by political correctness and an accommodating court order in 1972, I believe. Needless to say, all OU fans were hurt by this, especially the little kids who rightfully thought Little Red was too cool.
