It was announced during the second half that Tom Brokaw was in attendance at the University of Oklahoma/Nebraska game at Owen Field in Norman. The minute he was announced, you could hear loud boos from around the stadium.
Have no idea how he had the nerve to return to OU after his debacle of a speech for graduation last May. I think he received louder boos then when Nebraska came out, and even more than the penalty we got for fans throwing oranges onto the field near the end of the game.
Chalk this one up to flyover country that detests the mainstream news media. You probably will never hear this from the media except our local radio but it was hilarious. Everyone around where we sit are Bush fans and after they stopped booing, they started laughing at the reaction of everyone. Then they launched into a discussion about how biased the so-called mainstream media was in the election and how people like Brokaw should stay out of the red states. It made me really proud of the Sooner fans -- this truly is Bush Country.
U of Oklahoma:
PROPS!
Thought you guys would enjoy this! Nebraska didn't show up to win the game -- it was unbelieveable that they played to run out the clock from the beginning. Nebraska needs a new coach if you ask me. What happened to the West Coast offense? It failed to show up the way it looked!
Can I say AWESOME?
We were polite at graduation and didn't boo so I think people made up for it tonight. My son was laughing about the look that Brokaw must have had on his face when the boo's came everywhere.
The SOONER he retires, the better.
I hope it made him cry.
;)
I was ahead of my time. In 1974 when I graduated from Junior College, Brokaw was simply the local news anchor in LA. He was the commencment speaker at the graduation ceremony which I chose not to attend 31 years ago. HA!
You sure can -- it was awesome! Felt great to join in the boo's!
sounds great, but can you refresh our memories a bit about what assinine thing he said?
LOL!!!!!!!! That's funny -- if he wasn't any better back then -- you made a wise choice. Never did figure out what his theme was except to say there would never be another greatest generation and you people graduating are basically worthless. That's what I took away. My son thoroughly enjoyed booing as he was in the graduating class!
Wish there was audio tape on this one! Love it!
wow, i can't imagine if it had been peter jennings or dan rather - brokaw seems to me to be by far the best of the 3
LOL. Sounds good to me.
What did he say then?
Must've been a shock to the system of such an elitest
Wish I was there.
I am sure he saw red.
MSM: Goodbye. We now have all the information we need. Thanks anyway. Goodbye.
His whole speech was about how the WWII was the greatest generation and there never will be another one, how Bush won the Florida election through the Supreme Court and was selected, that today's students will not go near as far as the greatest generation, war in Iraq was wrong and those are the just the highlights or lowlights that I prefer to call them. I was really disgusted during the speech after he finished trashing the President. That doesn't even include the fact that the speech didn't flow at all -- never did figure out a theme except this class shouldn't reach for greatness but just give up (my son's words).
Tom Brokaw, Scott Peterson, Erica Kane, Montgomery Burns -- evil people on your television!
LOL!
They usually make a video of the whole game and my son is going to see if we can get a copy with the boo's -- it was priceless.
We knew we were going to get our ass kicked before this game started, we actually thought the score would be more like 62 - 10. Next year will be better, we have some very good recruits coming.
Support from an OSU fan.
Gee ..and the MSM bias used to be just a dirty little secret that you could pull over on the stupid Americans. WAHH APPENED..sob sob? Bet they still long for the old days when they were Gods.
What happened at the commencement speech?
I think that he left the much-vaunted "West-Coast" offense on the West Coast!
Believe Rather or Jennings would be afraid to even come into this part of the Country -- cannot feature them at a football game. Am sure that Brokaw was shocked. Everyone around us was complaining about Brokaw's performance on election night.
See my post in #21
I feel the same, too. Browkaw seems to be the "fairest" of the big three. Perhaps that's not saying much amongst such dastardly company, but still. And even more to that point, it I'm not mistaken W has only given interviews to Brokaw among the big three, as far as I know he's not given the time of day to Rather (of course) and Jennings.
Well,Oklahoma is the "Land of the Redman". :)
Oh my......Red State strikes again!
You would have loved it -- think his son-in-law is an OU alum! Sooner fans came through!
We have a Quarterback that cant exicute the "West Coast Offense"
Why would this even be news to the crowd? Who cares? What did they expect? No one else in the crowd was important? Yet another facet of media gives itself a black eye.
i agree with you, but who is the most stupid, moe, larry or curly?
I actually bought his book. That was before he showed his true colors over the last year or so. Maybe I should mail it back to him.
I know why my favorite color is RED!
:D!
I actually did that to Leonard Nimoy at a Star Trek convention back in 1992. The con was 3 days prior to the General Election and he started dissing 41. I was standing next to the stage and in front of about 500 ppl, I did an abrupt turn, marched back to the middle aisle through the chairs, turned back up toward the stage and marched out the door. We weren't there to listen to politics and I was insulted that he would use the medium to make a politcal point so close to the election.
That was an odd game from Nebraska -- it was all about ball control not scoring. Bob Stoops isn't one to ever run up a score -- he had them take a knee earlier in the year against Texas Tech on the 1 yard line so we didn't score.
We were down in the 90's when Blake was the Sooner coach -- it was horrible. Must admit that I am glad he wasn't on our sideline or we would still be mediocre.
Andrian Peterson got hurt in the A&M Game and was hurting all week so he played very little. Probably good too because the weather wasn't the best although the rain did stop soon after the game started but it was cold.
See my post #21 -- he was a total jerk!
Thanks! Hope you guys beat Tech next week!
Life is good and it's good to see OU back on top again. I still miss Lil' Red, though.
Good to see the guys show Nebraska how it's done.
Fantastic response.
Hunt with what? Spitballs?
Nebraska didn't look like Nebraska, but could Fox make a game any more boring? This isn't the first time either. The last time I watched a Fox game, OU-somebody. I don't remember - because Fox made it so BORING.
Dang.
Oh yeah, good to see Brokaw get booed.
