It was announced during the second half that Tom Brokaw was in attendance at the University of Oklahoma/Nebraska game at Owen Field in Norman. The minute he was announced, you could hear loud boos from around the stadium.
Have no idea how he had the nerve to return to OU after his debacle of a speech for graduation last May. I think he received louder boos then when Nebraska came out, and even more than the penalty we got for fans throwing oranges onto the field near the end of the game.
Chalk this one up to flyover country that detests the mainstream news media. You probably will never hear this from the media except our local radio but it was hilarious. Everyone around where we sit are Bush fans and after they stopped booing, they started laughing at the reaction of everyone. Then they launched into a discussion about how biased the so-called mainstream media was in the election and how people like Brokaw should stay out of the red states. It made me really proud of the Sooner fans -- this truly is Bush Country.
It was totally MIA!
Good job Sooners (and I'm a Cowboy fan)..
OH MY..They may someday get the message!..LOL
Big 12 bump..go Mizzou
I long for the days of yore when the Huskers and Sooners would line up and beat the $(*# out of each other. I hope in a year or two it will be that way again.
However, you are right. Stoops is all about ball control this year. Last year the Sooners were pretty much one dimensional and that killed us in the end.
Go Big Red!
I remember that - I was all over that thread. Glad to see that the OU faithful remebered his speech as well, and gave him what he deserved for making it. What kind of arrogant jackass comes into town, trashes the President and the graduating class he's addressing, pockets 75 Gs for his vile spew, and then not only returns, but makes a big deal out of announcing his return? What did he think, that everyone was going to forget what he said and toss him bouquets?
Enjoyed the win but I think I enjoyed hearing Brokaw boo'd just as much!
Why was he there? He doesn't even have a connection that I know of, he's from South Dakota.
I hadn't seen those articles -- bet that was part of the reason. Whatever it was, it was great to hear.
Heh.....look for a ping from me just now.
Typical hypno-lefty divide and conquer horsecr*p. Brokaw needs to put a sock in it- Why are ALL American generations not GREAT?? The 'greatest' gen my butt...
That game last year was awesome. No goal post torn down this time like they did in 2000! Great to see Josh Heupel back on the sideline as an assistant coach.
Figures. All the Rats like Carter and Clinton constantly claim our best days are behind us. Of course, if we keep electing people like them, they truly are. I like Reagan's shining city on the hill myself.
When Nebraska came out on the field, there were some boo's but not like Brokaw's -- they always boo the opposing team when they come out except for Baylor. You have to remember that Nebraska took advantage of when we were way down under John Blake to run up the score in the late 90's. Then in 2000 in our section we had some ditzy Nebraska woman yelling at us when Nebraska went up 14-0 about how bad we were, etc. -- she is still the talk of the section. Nebraska scored and she turned around and yelled at us instead of towards the field. As the game went on, she sat down and shut up. That was neat.
Fox does a louzy job IMHO.
Even the boo's were coming from the student body -- funniest thing I have seen in a long time at a game.
You posted the longhorns wrong. They should be upside down. By the way, look on the map and who do you see on top? Yup, that's us!!!
Cannot wait to see Adrian Peterson with either Paul Thompson or Brett Bomar next year -- that should be a lot of fun.
Jason White looks good!
He loves to roam around at college football games, I guess. We had the same announcement at an Ole Miss game a year or two ago, "Ole Miss welcomes Tom Brokaw, blah blah blah." I gave him a HEFTY round o'boos.
And who has beat Texas for the last five years? You guys almost lost to Kansas today didn't you?
My sentiments exactly! He was an idiot to come back to OU!
His son-in-law is an OU alum and huge Sooner fan -- only good thing he said in speech along with Beat Texas and the fact that he comes from the same state as Josh Heupel -- Brokaw is not Josh! Josh is really nice, conservative, and supports the President!
So, if OU sucks, what does that make a team that got shut out by OU? And only beat lowly KU today because of a bogus pass interference call? God knows the Big 12 is desperate for an extra BCS check this year.
BTW, I watched the game on Fox and didn't hear an announcement or boos. It might not have been picked up by the microphones or I might have been out of the room, so I'm not saying it didn't happen.
It was bad -- he didn't even stay for the end of graduation. President Boren is a very animated person and he sat there rigid as Brokaw launched into his attack speech -- didn't move at all. I saw Pres Boren when Rudy spoke at the Spring Convocation and he kept nodding and smiling as Rudy talked. I was taping the Graduation and Boren was stiff!
Both the PA announcement and the booing came through clearly on the radio broadcast of the game. One announcer asked the other "Why are they booing Tom Brokaw?"
Way to go! I was thinking the same thing -- the longhorns are supposed to be upside down -- never see them right side up here in Norman! :)
From the biggest RED state: http://www.corridorwatch.org AND, http://www.austintollparty.org
Wait till they do this to Oklahoma! Turner TPK is NOTHING compared to this red bastion.
Good for you! He should stay out of the Red States!
I think it was right before the start of the second half
Thanks! I am glad it came through the radio because it was really loud and I figured it must have gotten picked up.
Newsreaders take themselves much too seriesly.
Thanks for that great report, PKM.
The demise of the media. Ha ha.
Thanks for the report.
BUMP for great freeping.
Figured everyone could use a smile tonight! I am glad to know it was picked up on the radio too! Our local talk shows should be funny on Monday.
We just didn't want them to feel too bad. The game plan was to let them get 10 ahead w/ 4:11 left in the game and score 2 TDs in 4 minutes. Yup. That's the way coach Brown drew it up.
. . . Better put some ice on that Meester BrokeJaw
The boos didn't have to happen. If only Mr. Brokaw had said something sensitive and endearing to the Oklahoma fans to win them over, such as..."I came here to see me a football game"
http://www.ou.edu/commencement/....you can read Tom Brokaw's commencement address here. I know he's MSM liberal and all, but I read the whole address and it's not about what has been said, unless I missed something...other opinions??
without other words attached...oops!
I think he was just booed for being part of MSM, associated with Rather and Jennings, etc. I know he's anti-Bush, but I didn't see it in the address itself, the long boring address I might add.
As a Husker Fan....I agree does everyone know what WCO means?
William (Bill) Callahan Overated
HAHAHAHA ... GOOD!
I wish he would have been at one of the Alabama games because I would have enjoyed booing him too.
By the way, we're counting on you guys to win out. We cannot imagine a school like Auburn playing for a national championship.
Roll Tide and Go Sooners!!!!
