LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As former President Bill Clinton's library is unveiled at a gala opening this week, one thing is certain: His messy legacy will be on full display.

One alcove will be dedicated to impeachment, and organizers have promised not to sidestep even Monica Lewinsky or Paula Jones. The 58-year-old political superstar is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors a year to his library.

I saw the completed building for the first time on CNN last night where they raved about it's great architecture. It looks like a giant trailer to me...which seems totally fitting.

Clinton Library Architects Win Award

19 October 2004, 11:10pm ET By SARA KUGLER Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) -- The architects who designed Bill Clinton's presidential library, a gleaming glass and steel building over the Arkansas River that invokes his administration's theme of "building a bridge to the 21st century," have won a National Design Award for excellence in architecture.

Polshek Partnership Architects of New York, whose projects include Carnegie's newest concert hall and the planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, was one of two winners in the architecture design category for the prizes, awarded Tuesday by the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Architect Rick Joy, currently working on a resort in Utah and several residential projects in the Southwest, also received an architecture award.

The $165 million Clinton presidential library in Little Rock, Ark., is scheduled to open next month with a major celebration and is expected to draw 300,000 visitors in 2005. The structure, designed to feel airy and inviting, also mimics six industrial bridges that span the river and contribute to the city's aesthetic."

Blame it on New York, people. Clinton could have showed some loyalty to his home State and hired an Architect from Arkansas.

At least we know what a "double wide" looks like.

"....organizers have promised not to sidestep even Monica Lewinsky...."

Does that mean that there is going to be a room dedicated to the stained blue dress?

...political superstar...

This commie, rapist piece of trash, along with his pompous commie wife (INO), is a bottom-feeding carp!

He was a superstar to all degenerate Americans. To the rest of us he was a evil, glutted goat.

His speeches, along with Hillary's, were so full of himself and so devoid of any substance that only the leftist twits who would like to get their hands on all government in America find genius in the hollow, meaningless words.

I wouldn't lower myself to that level to ever visit that disgusting place. I have a placemat that has the pictures of all the Presidents. I have X'd over clintin. I have not, and will not ever recognize that man as one of our Presidents. The man was an absolute total disgrace to the American people and totally disrespected the Oval Office with his sexual romps. ACtually, I think he was a figurehead only and a very foolish peson. He played in the White House while hillereee ran the country. No thank you. There were 8 years in this country where I had no president or first lady cause there were none in the real sense.

I'll take the simple dignity, character and integrity that President Bush restored to our house.

Visit the library? Not a chance. I have too much respect for our country and myself to ever even go near the place.

Curiosity. A circus. A horror show. A place to jeer and snicker. Legacy? Billy has one legacy...Monica. That will never change. Monica Lewinsky...the clintin legacy. We know it and he knows it too. As for Monica, she'll go down in history too. May they both enjoy the library and I hope hillereee enjoys it too. They all deserve each other.

It will be a high class establishment. Porters will mop up the stalls after each customer instead of at the end of the day's...festivities.

WRITTEN IN STONE: AN ARCHITECT DEFINES THE CLINTONS
virtualclintonlibrary.blogspot.com

by Mia T, 12-30-02

f mutability of meaning was necessary for the survival of the clintons--their survival hinged ultimately on the deconstruction of words and laws--it is more than a little ironic, and a manifestation of the special sway and shortsightedness of the pathologic ego, that clinton's monument to himself will necessarily define the clintons with the permanence of great inviolate places of iconic architecture.

Whereas a huckster removes meaning from institutions--the wife picked up where the husband left off--an architect encodes meaning in buildings. James S. Polshek, the architect with the dubious distinction of having been commissioned to build the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, believes that a successful architectural solution must necessarily be rooted in relevance.

Just as Polshek's buildings have physical layers, so too do they have layers of meaning. His Rose Center for Earth and Space, for example, is informed formally and programmatically by the historic architecture of a designated landmark even as it redefines itself, (often too self-consciously, in my view), in Star-Trekian terms. Reduced to its essence, the building is the nascent universe before the Big Bang, the promise of the undifferentiated cell in its mother's womb.

The "bridge to the 21st century" was, perhaps, clinton's most delusional conceit, so it is not surprising that it would become clinton's self-referential metaphor of choice. His library was to be that bridge, if he had anything to say about it...

The architect is often the master of the inside joke, witness Robert Venturi's postmodern chairs. Venturi exploited--unabashedly and with abandon--the vocabulary of Las Vegas, its stage-set-as-reality and its roadside culture--bright, clashing, ugly and fake. The architect's inside joke is his hedge against the sycophancy that comes with patronage.

The flip side of the encoded meaning of the architect is the terrorist's decoding of it. To bin Laden, the World Trade Center was Jewish capitalism encoded in urban space. If Polshek's vision of clinton's library is a bridge, the inside joke is that, at best, it is a bridge to nowhere.

More likely, it is a bridge to the 7th century...or a doublewide to house clinton double-speak. Take your choice.
