Nuclear Anti-Terror Fears over Mexican Border
By Mark Sage, PA, in New York
Security is being stepped up at the border between the US and Mexico amid new intelligence that al Qaida aims to smuggle nuclear material through a crossing point.
A senior US security official told Time Magazine that a recent captive in the war on terror admitted to al Qaidas interest in moving nuclear materials from Europe to either the US or Mexico.
Sharif al-Masri, an Egyptian, was captured in late August near Pakistans border with Iran and Afghanistan.
According to the intelligence report Masri said al Qaida has considered plans to smuggle nuclear materials to Mexico, then operatives would carry material into the US.
Meanwhile, US and Mexican intelligence officials were alerted to reports that other al Qaida detainees had described Mexico as a staging area to acquire end-stage chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear material.
The Mexican border has long been a security concern for the US.
Thousands of illegal immigrants cross the border from Mexico every year in search of work.
But it is feared that terrorists could also use the mountain passes or other soft spots to get into the US.
Security Secretary Tom Ridge met publicly with top Mexican officials last week to discuss border security.
Surveillance of lorries and other heavy vehicles has been stepped up and the Mexicans authorities will also improve security at flight schools and aviation facilities.

Okay this is finally the "mandate" the President needs to really crack down on the border security situation. Let's get this taken care of now, Mr President.
Hundreds of thousands cross the US/Mexico border. I don't have the numbers for the US/Canada border.
The Border Patrol apprehends 1,000 a day in the Tucson sector alone, which covers most of the Arizona border.
Did you see the photograph of the little girl posted a couple days ago who was smuggled in across the border in a Pinata?

Does anyone remember this incident in Mexico? Does anyone really doubt that al Qaida could use Mexico as a staging ground?
Does anyone believe Mexico is our ally?
Hell I am 68 and retired and I would volunteer pay my own way for a months or so service
I would even supply my own MILITIA RIFLE andd AMMO
And my wife would bring her guns and com with me
Nuclear risk pales in comparison to the economic havoc that illegal immigration (principally Mexico's poor) are wreaking on the infrastructure of our boarder states.

Esparza pleads guilty to killing nun
KLAMATH FALLS (AP) - Maximiliano Silerio Esparza pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges that he raped two nuns and killed one of them as they walked and prayed on a bike path last September.
Esparza, 33, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Sister Helen Lynn Chaska, 53. He got another 10 years for the attempted murder of the surviving nun, and 15 years for raping the women.
In return for his guilty plea, Esparza avoided a possible death sentence.
In a statement, Edwin Caleb, the Klamath County district attorney, said he offered the plea for several reasons, including the surviving nun's religious convictions. Caleb said he didn't want to force the nun to testify.
"The most obvious reason is the certainty that this monster will be in jail for the rest of his life and never get the opportunity to offend again," he said.
Police say Esparza rode a train from Portland to Klamath Falls about a week before the attack. He visited a strip bar and then attacked the nuns early on a Sunday morning as they prayed on the downtown bike path.
Esparza head-butted one of the nuns, then raped them both while controlling them with the rosary beads around their necks, police said.
Chaska - who went by the name Sister Helena Maria - was strangled by her own beads, according to an autopsy. She was a nun with the Bellevue, Wash., Immaculate Heart of Mary, a small order unaffiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.
Several months before the attack, Esparza was detained and let go by U.S. Border Patrol agents in New Mexico even though he had spent three years in California prisons and had once been deported.
The agents did turn up an old drug charge in Oregon, but Multnomah County passed on extraditing him. The warrant was apparently the only evidence of Esparza's criminal past that surfaced during the checks.
Once Oregon declined to extradite, Esparza was treated like any other undocumented Mexican and was dropped off at the border.
That guy could run for AlQuaida shop steward...

A day late and a dollar short aren't they? "Everything possible is being done to protect you", may be about to bite politicians and some very unfortunate citizens on the backside.
We know that an attack within 30 days of the release of a Ben Laden tape is SOP for terrorists. We know that this tape threatens the red states. We know that Ben Laden has sought and received permission from the heads of his religion to use nuclear weapons against the USofA.
If Al Queda possess a nuclear device, one would doubt that they would tip their hand unless the devices were already here, in country, and ready to go.
One wouldn't be unreasonable to doubt they would have made Ben Ladens last tape public unless they were go.
Should we worry about an attack on or before Thanksgiving? I hope the phrase, "Houston we have a problem", doesn't take on a whole new meaning.

Wow. I don't understand why political elites show such disdain for the common sense of the common people.
Well, Miss Pie, I hate to say it, but it may be human nature. The power elite have always had disdain for the common people.
Welcome to FR btw. I didn't recognize your handle so I checked your profile. We have very similar backgrounds and heritage. Hope you enjoy the site.
Thanks. I've been lurking a long time.

Yes, he acquired a Fatwah for this purpose. He is covering his theological/religious bases to give him the "legal" / "theological" (used very loosely, no Theo (God) Logos (Word) there..) in an almost deliberate "legal", lawyerly approach should he launch a nuclear assault on the U.S.
A fatwah on this issue is pure, unadulterated B.S. and has no legal standing. The guy is a terrorist murderer and this fatwah he got is just another source of T.P.
BTW, Fatwah = fat wahhabbi?
Based on all we know, and knowing that Ben Laden would not want to risk moving the device deep into the country, shouldn't we expect an attack somewhere in Texas on or around Thanksgiving?
I will prefer not to speculate as to what my gut tells me. Honestly.
