Nigerian Strike To Focus On Oil Exports

Nigeria’s largest labor organization has called for its 2nd national strike — to start Nov. 16 — against recent government hikes in the domestic retail oil price. This strike, however, is strategically aimed at stopping Nigeria’s lucrative oil exports. Nigeria is the world’s seventh largest oil producer, and is the fifth largest provider of oil imported by the United States. If the strike is effective, its effects could ripple through the global oil economy, causing wholesale prices to rise beyond its recent record levels, and raising U.S. gas and fuel prices.

Depending upon how "effective" the strike is and how long it lasts, it could affect our price at the pump. If it's long enough it could lead to some fuel shortages in the next few months.

Yeah, double-quick!

They're at it again in Nigeria. I knew it was some kind of omen the first time they struck.

Why not, it's the holidays and people will be traveling. Seems like a logical time to raise oil prices anyway.

"If the strike is effective, its effects could ripple through the global oil economy, "

I'm pretty sure that's what this line means.

Any chance we can persuade someone else to go on strike? The guy who sends me a bogus Nigerian banking scam message EVERY 3 HOURS OR SO?

If we started drilling today, how many years before ANWR oil is in the pipeline? The RATS have been blocking this source of domestically produced oil for years.

I'm sure you're correct about the timeline.

Clinton could have done something about the delay but the polls were'nt right. The drillers need less than .3% of ANWR to drill in, on a coastal plain mud flat. The Greens keep showing pictures of the (breathingly beautiful) Brooks Range and claim they would be damages, but the Brooks Range are south of the proposed drilling area in the coastal plain. After the drilling derricks are removed there would be little evidence than hamans had ever been there.
