The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON - Some suicide bombers who battled U.S. troops in Fallujah were doped up on heroin and speed, the Pentagon's top general said yesterday.

Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his aides said the suicidal jihadists used the drugs for courage or to motivate them into martyrdom.

Myers said some of the suiciders in Fallujah "are foreign fighters, but not exclusively."

But when asked to account for the fanaticism of some of the fighters, Myers said, "The other thing you need to understand is...the number of drugs found there as well.""

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "[India News]: Ahmedabad, Nov 19 : An Islamic cleric arrested earlier this month was planning to bring militant groups together to fight for an Islamic state in India, police claimed Friday.

The plan was revealed during the interrogation of Mohammed Nasiruddin alias Maulana Nasiruddin, arrested in Hyderabad after a shootout in which one of his supporters was killed, police here said.

"Maulana has been associated with Jamaat-e-Islami, a moderate organisation since 1970. The notorious Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is a student wing of the organisation and Maulana has been associated with it too," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) D.G. Vanzara told reporters."

Arabs of Bulgarian Citizenship on Iraq's Terrorist List


More evidence of the jihadist presence in Europe. From Bulgaria's Novinite, with thanks to Anthony:

Some dozen Arabs with Bulgarian citizenship have been detected among the active terrorist groups in Iraq, according to CIA quoted by Bulgarian TRUD daily.

However, Bulgaria's special services and military intelligence denied having such information.


The CIA claimed that one of those terrorists, dubbed D.M., had passed through Bulgaria last month.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "ROCKVILLE, Md. - A three-alarm fire raced through a warehouse occupied by several business Friday, collapsing part of the roof and a wall, leaving the building unstable, authorities said. They suspect a leaking propane tank was to blame.

No one was hurt in the fire at the North Bethesda Industrial Center, which was fueled by large amounts of flammable materials, Montgomery County's fire chief said. It was not clear what caused the blaze, although several explosions were reported, likely caused by the propane.

Chief Tom Carr said everyone inside the building escaped on their own.

Investigators said a worker arriving at the warehouse smelled propane."

Only in DC. As for me, my IDPA club regularly practices the close in gunfight and shooting from a retention stance as well as fending off the initial attack so you can safely draw and fire.... Then of course there are my peaceful Aikido solutions. I really hate it when my adversary is not close enough to touch.....

I agree...it might save the life of the most precious kid on the planet to you. In the age we are in, parents need to throw the pc approach out the window and open up the survival manual. No one is going look out for them as you can. Stay tight knit!

While reading Space.com, something hit me this morning (tin foil hat firmly in place).

Remember, Bin Laden and his buddies are reported to put great significance in the celestial signs. On December 7, Jupiter passes behind the moon.

To quote Space.com, "The last time New Yorkers were treated to such a favorably placed dark-sky Jupiter occultation was on Sept. 3, 1889. After 2004, there will not be another similarly favorable Jupiter occultation for most North Americans until Oct. 6, 2026."

In ancient mythology, Jupiter was the King. Jupiter aligning with some "house" in the sky was an indication that a King was born in that "house".

Jupiter passing behind the moon was possibly one of the signs the Magi interpreted to mean a great King had just been born in Israel.

Islam puts great store in the Moon. Jupiter passing behind the moon, visible prominently in the U.S., could be interpreted by the Muslims as the "birth", of another King, this time the Mahdi (something Bin Laden supporters hope he will become). Since the Moon (symbolizing Islam) will be so unusually visible over the U.S. at the time, it could also be seen as a celestial sign that Islam is to become dominant over the U.S. at that time.

I know nothing about how Bin Laden and his friends interpret what they consider celestial signs, other than that he and his followers put great store in them. There are more occultations in November: Moon to Venus (10th?), Moon to Mars (11th?) and Moon to Mercury (14th). Whether the bad guys would consider these significant I do not know.

To put this in perspective: Hanukkah begins at sundown on Tuesday, December 7, this year. For that matter, December 7 is also Pearl Harbor Day. I have been assuming nothing will happen until Iran has nukes (less than six months to go), and that still seems the most likely timing to me. But this still looked interesting enough to mention.
