BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The suicide bomber believed to have blown himself up in a U.S. military dining tent near Mosul this week, killing more than 20 people, was probably wearing an Iraqi military uniform, the U.S. military said Thursday.

It’s hard to imagine that Mufid Abdulqader is the same man on stage wearing a traditional Palestinian Kafiyeh and desert robe, singing with gusto to a large admiring audience.
The naturalized U.S. citizen belting out the Arabic language tune tune while wearing traditional grab had, for more than eight years, worked by day for the city of Dallas in the mild-mannered field of civil engineering. He held a masters degree, had wife, kids, a mortgage and professional respect from colleagues and from the city’s top leaders for his work.
It’s even harder to imagine that this professionally accomplished, highly affable public servant by day, was on weekends singing the praises of the terrorist organization Hamas, encouraging martyrs to kill Jews and glorifying violent Jihad.

The Department of State has information that terrorist groups are developing plans for possible near-term attacks against unspecified targets in Kuwait. Terrorists do not distinguish between official and civilian targets. Increased security at official U.S. facilities may lead terrorists and their sympathizers to seek softer targets such as public transportation, residential areas, oil-related facilities and personnel, and public areas where people congregate including restaurants, hotels, clubs, and shopping areas. U.S. citizens are advised to immediately report any unusual or suspicious activity in Kuwait to the Kuwaiti police or to the U.S. Embassy.
U.S. citizens are reminded of the potential for further terrorist actions against U.S. citizens abroad, including in the Persian Gulf region. Iqbal Riza, who has served as Annan's chef de cabinet since 1997, said he would step down on Jan. 15, 2005, after nearly three decades at the U.N.
In a statement released in New York City, Annan hailed Riza's "unflinching dedication to the ideals and principles" of the United Nations.
"It is with very mixed emotions that I have accepted the long-standing request" of Riza to retire, Annan said, since his aide "has always provided me with wise and trusted counsel."
Riza has worked for the U.N. both at its New York headquarters in the field since 1978, when he joined the world body after spending 19 years with Pakistan's foreign service. Residents near the Pit Stop Car Wash on Route 113 heard something explode around 8:00 Thursday night. Investigators on the scene found the remnants of a small explosive device and some minor damage to a building. No one was hurt.
Earlier this month, a pipe bomb exploded at the Uwchlan Hills Elementary School.
Investigators believe that bomb was the work of vandals and is not connected to the so-called "Suburban Bomber".

PHILADELPHIA-December 23, 2004 — Authorities may have made a break in the so-called "Burka Bandits" robberies in the Philadelphia area.
University of Pennsylvania police say they raided a home in West Philadelphia about six o'clock this morning, taking four people into custody and confiscating a number of weapons.
Also found, police say, was clothing and other evidence which investigators say appears to link the four to the wave of "Burka Bandit" robberies.
According to Philadelphia police, more than 20 robberies committed in the past two months in the Philadelphia area apparently involved men wearing burkas -- traditional female Muslim apparel that covers the body, face and head.

I'd say that fear is perhaps age related (too many candles on your birthday cake?) but then the PC police will come for me.
All the Daleel, EOM and other posts threatening us so far have been smoke and mirrors. Initially I thought that we would need to be forewarned when Muslims formed an exodus from a given city or cities, but since they have such awe and "respect" for suicide bombers, the thought that many will "sacrifice themselves and their loved ones" for the sake of jihad to not let on to us "infidels" is not unfathomable.

The thing I've noticed over the past year is that they seem to suffer from Bagdad Bob-itus. They talk big, deliver small and have to inflate their 'victories' inorder to boost their self worth. And notice how little we hear from them now that their boasts have proven false. But this is a good documentation and a more detailed study of those incidents would provide clues to sift out the wheat from the chaff in the future.

They were probably hoping that their "warnings" would be broadcast so they could watch people scurry and get some perverse pleasure from an illusion of control. Now that it hasn't happened, they may realize that we are a results-oriented culture.
I remember as a 7th grader the taunts of bullies who kept repeating to me, "you're gonna die! You're gonna die!" until I popped one of them in nose. They shut up after that and didn't bother me.
I agree. But we should be alert to other sources that might be confirming portions of what ever the boast is. These are the crucial DOTS that have to be connected at the very first. I think we at TM have learned a lot as we've dealt with these characters. Now imagine what the intel services are haveing to deal with in greater volume! I think we are learning to identify the BS and get to any potential reality behind their posts.

With NK being such a "squirrelly" situation, I was impressed with this guy's ability to get such detailed info, considering how oftentimes there seems to be a virtual news blackout. I looked at the guy's homepage and saw that he spent a year in SK. I believe he taught ESL (English as Second Language) and Bible!

One of the most meaningful gauges of the integrity of a peace process and its likelihood for success is the degree to which the "peace partners" educate towards peace. It is for this reason that the entire Palestinian Authority (PA) education apparatus, both formal and informal, has been such a tragic disappointment. Instead of seizing the opportunity to educate future generations to live with Israel in peace, the PA has done everything in its power to teach hatred to young minds.
Compounding the problem is that ever since the hatred in the Palestinian textbooks has been exposed and world pressure has been mounting to eliminate the hatred, various defenders of the PA curriculum have surfaced,
trying to legitimize this problematic educational system. The truth is that the PA schoolbooks, both old and new, incite to hatred, violence and anti-Semitism, and it's tragic that their defenders are enabling the PA to avoid necessary peace education. (excerpted)

Deadly blast in southern Thailand
At least one person has been killed and several wounded after a bomb exploded in a restive area of southern Thailand. The blast happened at a Siam Commercial Bank branch in Sungai Kolok, a town in Narathiwat province on the border with Malaysia, said police.
The town, which is popular with Malaysian tourists, has been the scene of other explosions in the past.
Narathiwat is one of three mainly-Muslim southern provinces at the centre of an Islamic separatist insurgency.
Police said the bomb was planted in a motorcycle parked in front of a cash machine beside the bank, exploding at 0900 (0200 GMT).
