MUSLIM parents who object to their kids taking same-sex issues classes may not have a choice under Ontario's human rights code. The Toronto District School Board refused to grant Muslim students exemption from classes teaching same-sex issues because the class is based in the Ontario Human Rights Code, said Patricia Hayes, a human rights officer with the board.
"It's human rights education," Hayes said. "We can't exempt anyone from human rights education."
She said the board is "legally bound" to protect the rights of kids with parents in a same-sex relationship.
Education Minister Gerard Kennedy said public schools exist to teach respect for different ways of life.
"I think parents have choices for their kids," he said. "I would say in general, though, that our public schools are there to engender respect -- respect for people of different faiths, respect for people of different sexual orientation."
The Liberal government plans to add "character" education into the provincial curriculum, and parents will have an opportunity for input, Kennedy said.
NDP MPP Michael Prue said children should not be exempted from education that promotes human rights.
"With all respect to the Muslim parents ... they have chosen to live in a pluralistic society," Prue said.
This is outrageous. They are going to force something that is morally reprehensible on these children against their parents wishes. I think these parents should fight this. Just another lib way of making people bend over backwacks for what is really a minority of the populace.
So muslims think they should get an exemption when Christians and Jews would also like to opt out for religious reasons but are told no?
I know, I know, this is a very serious atrocity, but I can't help laughing.

Some Muslims rip same-sex education, others accept it

AS A MUSLIM, Sawsam Agha doesn't agree with same-sex marriage. But she said she won't be stopping her son Mazena, 7, from learning tolerance of it at school.
The 34-year-old Agha was yesterday waiting to pick up Mazena outside Market Lane Public School, where debate is raging about the school's emphasis on teaching its students about homosexual couples.
Some Muslim parents are upset with the school for not warning them in advance of classes discussing homosexual marriage. They're also upset the Toronto District School Board is refusing to let their children be excluded from such classes.
'COMMUNITY RIGHTS'
"It's not an option that administrators would grant," said Patricia Hayes, a human rights officer with the Toronto District School Board.
Hayes explained the Ontario Human Rights Code -- which protects against discrimination based on sexual orientation -- forbids the board from allowing parents to exclude their children from classes teaching tolerance of homosexuals.
"We are talking about another community's rights," she said. "It's important for children to realize that all family units need to be respected."
The same-sex education video shown at Market Lane, entitled Sticks and Stones, doesn't discuss or promote the sexual behaviour of same-sex couples, as was mistakenly perceived by some parents, she said. The video was intended to educate children against making fun of children whose parents may be in a same-sex relationship.
Market Lane principal David Crichton wasn't commenting yesterday, and calls to the school were referred to the board.
Outside the school, parents voiced their opinion.
"I'm opposed to (same-sex marriage), basically I'm opposed to it because it's my religious beliefs," Agha said. "I won't go to extremes. I would leave (Mazena) in the classroom ... We teach them not to discriminate against anybody but at the same time we tell them not to believe in it (homosexuality)."
"I'm not opposed to (same-sex marriage)," said parent Karen McMullin, who said tolerance of homosexuals should be taught at home. "I don't think they should be learning about it at school."
Shannon Hutchinson-Allan, whose sons Evan and Justin attend Market Lane, was "proud" of the school for teaching about same-sex marriage.
"It's very progressive and I'm actually very proud of our school for doing this," the 34-year-old mother said.
Many Muslims won't tolerate non-Muslims. They expect to teach them to tolerate gay marriage?
Just tell them it's Middle Eastern studies, Arafat, Saddam, Assad, goats, stuff like that and move on.

So does this mean you're either born with character or you're not? Or does it mean that character is a human rights "choice?" And what sort of character are they talking about? After all, W.C. Fields was a character, and so is Bugs Bunny. And if they don't teach those, will they be guilty of character discrimination?

What could support human rights better than the despotic and cruel enforcement of multi-culti ideology?
