Rush Limbaugh: Man of the Year
2004 has been the Year of The New Media. This has been the year of Swift Boat Vets. The year of Talk Radio. This has been the Year of Fox News and their incredible ratings-- and the year of the fall of the Old Media and their not-so-incredible ratings. This has been the year of paid Bloggers and Pajama Bloggers.
2004 is the year where the culmination of Rush Limbaugh's efforts came to fruition. The past decade has been "The Limbaugh Decade." Massive ratings victories for his show. The saving of AM radio. The spawning of Sean Hannity's, Bill O'Reilly's, Laura Ingram's programs, and on and on. The rise of Internet sites like Free Republic, Lucianne.com, Rushlimbaugh.com and all the brilliant sites of so many bloggers. We're talking about millions and millions of listeners and viewers of conservative programs and web sites -- something that did not exist a few short years ago.
Republicans control Congress and have for some time. Rush was formally recognized by the victorious Freshmen Congressmen in 1992 as an Honorary Member for his role in getting them elected. Now, Al Gore and John Kerry can only wonder about their chances to become President if not for Rush Limbaugh and those in the media who have followed in his footsteps.
"The Winston Churchill of the Private Sector." Right? That's ought to qualify a guy for "Man of the Year."
Everyone knows. The Old Media knows. Why not formalize this fact?
This is not to minimize President Bush (or Dick Cheney who Democrats claim runs the country). This is just a simple recognition of a sea change in the manner in which information is disseminated in the freest, most prosperous and greatest country on the face of the Earth.
Out with the old (media), in with the new (media).
Conservatism is on the front burner: Tax cuts, tax reform, social security reform, strong military, etc... Rush has been the primary spokesperson for these issues and it has all come to a head.
He blazed the trail and that trail has turned into an information highway providing information and analysis Americans have craved-- the ratings prove this. The fact is, this information highway has resulted in votes for conservatives. Look who's been controlling the Congress for the past decade-- this is no coincidence. Rush has been the most vocal, the most visible and the most effective communicator of conservatism since Ronald Reagan left office.
Rush has been and still is the leader in the information revolution in the United States. The numbers prove it and we all instinctively know it.
Agree with Rush or disagree? That's not the question. Here's the criteria: "the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or for ill, and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse."
Case closed.
Rich Davis, II
president George W Bush?
or, to p*ss the DUmmies off: Condoleezza Rice :-)
Rush deserved this honor in 1994 and they didnt have the balls to put him there, instead opting for "the pope" who did nothing noteworthy that year.
He's got my vote!

It would be a tribute to our fighting men and women.
I love the term "Pajama Bloggers"! hee hee!
what is with their hate for her? they REALLY do hate that women.
she got there without affirmative action, is that what bothers them?
Persons of the Year? The Swiftees!
'bout time we recognized some of my fellow Viet Nam Veterans!
Semper Fi,
Kelly
I have no idea, I guess they think their scam (to keep blacks down by keeping them poor so they continue to vote 'RAT) is being exposed with dr. Rice being in such a position of responsibility (another word not to be found in most 'RAT dictionaries, I guess)
I think his drug problems are to big to ignore.
OK by me.
I agree, but I also think Pat Tillman would be a tribute to all Amercians for his unselfish and unabashed love for our great nation.
The American Soldier, they missed doing that back in the Nam, for our troops!
Or any other year.
John O'Neill.
Short list:
Rush (always)
W
Rice
Swiftboat Heroes
Sorry ...who is Tillman? And why?
I'd be hard pressed to choose a person of the year. I think our military might be a good choice. But I guess if the old media picks the person of the year it won't be Rush or the military.
Great one. I second your nomination.
IMO, Russ would be the first to cast his vote for the SwiftBoatVets! Russ IS good; he KNOWS he's good; he
has his ratings which PROVE he's good. He enjoys the challenge of predicting exactly what the Libs are going to do,say, and react! He gets his adrenilin kick every day!
Being one of the top contenders will satisfy him!
I mean let's face it: between conservative talk radio, the Fox News Channel and Internet bloggers, they managed to effectively blunt any attacks the mainstream media tried to do on President Bush; remember the National Guard memos (now proven to be fakes) CBS tried to foister on us and the now-disproven story about the "lost" explosives from the al-Qaqaa ammo dump near Baghdad the New York Times tried to foister on us? And it was the New Media that gave an outlet for the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth that caused no end of grief for Senator Kerry's campaign?
It is, in short, the final affirmation of what Alvin Toffler said 25 years ago in The Third Wave about the so-called demassification of the media.
He gave up his NFL career to join the army after 9/11 and was killed in Afghanistan this year.
Pat Tillman is a football player--I forget which team--who left to join the Army after 9/11. He died in Afghanistan earlier this year.
Hanoi John Kerry is the GIRLIE-MAN of the year!
Swift Vets for the Truth
In many ways agree. But, his stage was partially created by Rush and Sean and Laura, and Fox News, and Free Republic, and so on. I think Rush has been instrumental in creating all of the above. And that is a good, powerful thing, IMHO!
Last year it was the American Soldier.
He he he, If the OM picks then the obvious choice is Buckhead!!! :)
New Media needs to make the selection. That is relevant in 2004.
Thanks for the laugh! Buckhead is da man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who is Rich Davis II?
Condi has bigger kahunas than most men, let alone all liberals. ;)
Man of the year: President Bush
Who knew.....
The drug problems don't concern me because he has taken steps to address them. But I could never support him as Man of the Year or any major conservative award because he left his wife. That does not represent our values. I have always and still do admire the service he provides on the radio.
How about John Edwards, i mean he does have the best hair..sorry i couldn't resist...There are so many great men like the President, Rush, MEl Gibson, the Marine, Sean Hannity (becuse i think he did a ton during the election freaking out trying to get people out to vote) so it's really a difficult choice...but i bet u a million bucks fat disgusting pig Michael Moore gets it..
Brief summary of his life here:
Of course...now I remember.
Sooo tragic. A hero for the ages.
oops...silly me
I thought the politically correct term would be "person of the year"
Wouldn't surprise me if the stupid media names Arafat. Maybe by the end of the year they'll have decided whether he's dead or not.
I bet they make it Jesus Christ.
Who else in a year where traditional values won the election, and "The Passion" broke box office records?
Big Fat Mikey Moore?
he pissed off enough people with all of his lies and hatered it motivated the Right to get out and vote.
lol! Good one. Or Kerry? He served in Vietnam, you know?
Rush is always "Man of the Year" and the left knows it.
agree. his impact is and has been remarkable. maybe the most powerful non-elected political figure in our history? who else makes that list?
Frankly, truth be told, since it was FreeRepublic itself which exposed the potential campaign-killing lies of Dan Rather, I would recommend:
JIM ROBINSON, MAN OF THE YEAR
