AR: "Something postive will come out of this, I am certain of that. I find it very positive that Senators are seriously considering changing the Senate rules on filibusters. If we can get that done, Specter can have the chairmanship."

I agree. All the hard work, calls, emails, faxes, etc - kudos to AR's hard work, BTW - did not have the desired immediate effect, dumping Specter. At this point I think that would be a lost cause. But...

Specter wants the chairmanship more than anything else. And his first loyalty is to himself... not to any agenda or ideology. With continued pressure on him & the GOP he might actually be a useful advocate for us.

I hope so at least... and that might be what Rove & Bush had in mind - to hand the chairmanship as the sword of damacles over his head - ready to fall at any mistake. We'll see.

In the mean time, let's get the filibuster rule changed...

Do you think people (other than us political junkies) care about parliamentary procedure?

It wouldn't be portrayed that way by the media. It would be portrayed as Republicans running rough shod on the rules of the Senate.

Prediction time. GOP does the nuclear option. You hail it as brilliant because the GOP did it. Mark my words.

Prediction time. GOP doesn't need the nuclear option. Dubya's nomonees sail through without much effort.

If the GOP does use it and gets away with it I will hail it as brilliant, and I wouldn't mind being wrong again.

Thank you for the insult.

I'm sorry. I get worked up about politics. I'm sure you understand. I went back and reread your post and I think I read way to much into your statement "I'm sick of hearing how conservatives need to worry about one more election or one more appointment."

My response was insulting, and I recognize your desire to see our government and the country move to the right because it is my desire. I believe the American people may have made this issue a moot point. If we can get 60 votes by buying them and holding our RINOs together we may not need the nuke option.

There is no more important issue than getting conservatives on the bench and the liberals' power there diluted.

I couldn't agree more. Although we don't agree on the tactics to get there you have presented a well written and thoughtful case for your opinion, and without returning rudeness to your fellow Freeper. I commend you and concede this round to you...I am the weakest link

Your apology is accepted. I've been there and done that myself.

I think most of the disagreements on this board are on tactics, and what frosts me most often is that many people here cannot be civil while discussing them, and worse, far too commonly impute motive to method. It is not difficult to comprehend why this is, however, when students don't learn from an early age the rules of logic and debate. I didn't. Most don't, because they simply don't teach it any more. I hate when I fall prey to the trap of discussing the arguer instead of the argument because I didn't learn differently earlier.

You aren't a liberal for pushing Specter. Only the trolls here qualify as libs. And it looks like the Senate's GOP leaned your way this time. We shall see if they were right or, as I believe, wrong. But I think we can deal with the outcome either way without strangling each other over it. :)

We just do what we can. But, this election has made me realize the true face of the media and the left.

I will not honor PC directives from the unknown onhigh authorities determining what I can and cannot say. I will determine what I will say.

I will not allow the media and the liberal uproars to determine what actions I take. I will learn to ignore their outbursts as the outbursts of tantrum throwers.

I hope you are right about HRC. But I don't want ANY of those you mentioned as nominees.
