This is what happens when professionals unionize. Their loyalty now belongs to the union instead of the client, patient, or student. In turn, the union will protect behavior from its members that a professional society would find offensive. Welcome to the 21st. Century.

The text of that letter (pdf) would be sufficient to get the
attourney disbared in many states. (Alaska being one of them). You can not threaten, you can only sue.
Kathleen Garrett
The same people who insist on parents in this country having the freedom of choice on whether or not to kill their unborn and partially-born children refuse to allow parents any freedom of choice when it comes to the education of our youth. Something woefully wrong with this situation, and it's time it was corrected.
Sue the teachers union for 10 million dollars. Disbar the lawyer for extortion and witness tampering in a potential case.
"Welcome to the 21st. Century."
Be optimistic, look at it as a phenomenon of the 20th century. It took generations to get there, it'll take generations to get back. But W winning again was a step in the RIGHT direction.
I sincerely hope I live to see the teachers unions completely eradicated in my lifetime. I strongly hope we ARE on our way to an "ownership society" and that vouchers, or something like them, will be a big part of it.
That would be an excellent first step.
So do I. Teaching is a profession and should act and be treated as such. A professional teachers association, that has influence at both the local and national level, is more desirable. Teaching is not a quantifiable "craft" that lends itself to the structure of a union. Furthermore, public employment does not lend itself to the private industry model of a union. If the United Auto Workers go on strike at General Motors for months, the consumer can purchase Fords, or other makes. The same sort of options does not exist for the parents of a school district on strike. The same goes for the police and fire. Rather than strike "rights", public employee associations should have special and immediate access to the courts to remedy their grievances.
