Entire Class Suspended for Food Fight

2 hours, 48 minutes ago Strange News - AP

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A cafeteria food fight on "meat loaf day" led to the suspension of the entire eighth-grade class at a Memphis school. The students were suspended after refusing to clean up the mess they caused.

"Given an opportunity first to apologize for their behavior and help with the cleanup, most of the class refused to cooperate," school spokesman Vince McGaskill said.

The food fight broke out Wednesday at Geeter Middle School, which has 637 students in grades six through eight. Meat loaf and chicken were on the menu.

Principal Jada Meeks suspended students who were in the cafeteria during the fight, meaning the youngsters' parents must meet with school officials before the children can return to class.

The cause of the disturbance was not immediately known. No serious injuries were reported.

"Suspending students is never desirable," McGaskill said. "In this case, the principal felt that strong, some may say shocking measures, were called for to spur change."

LOL - the problem with suspension as a "punishment" is that it assumes kids want to be in school.

So what were the minor injuries?

If there is ANY upside to this, it happened before the holidays when they might have served fruitcake for dessert.

Some one could have REALLY gotten hurt.

LOL - the problem with suspension as a "punishment" is that it assumes kids want to be in school.

I got suspended in 10th grade, for 3 days.

The first morning I was thinking, yea - cool, no school.

Then my Dad tells me to get my work clothes on, "what do you think this is, a Roman Holiday?"

That was my one and only suspension from school.

Your corn flakes photo reminded me of a comedian I saw on TV a long time ago. The guy looked like a biker outlaw. He was talking about his rough background. "Yes, I did kill a person once...but when I don't want Girl Scout Cookies, I DON'T WANT "EM!!!"

I am calling BS on this one.

It is impossible to have a food fight in the average cafeteria because what they serve cannot rightfully be called food . . .

I pity their teachers, the parents will demand that the teachers help them make up all their work, in effect having to work extra time because of their bad behavior.

The liberals in the school have just seen "democracy" (mob rule) in action. They had no response but totalitarian punishment. EVERYONE is gone.

The teachers cannot even give "pop quizes" to punish the kids who miss the work. That only works when someone is still there in the class.

Mrs. Crabapple is cheering in the teacher's lounge while enjoying a cigarette.

"Given an opportunity first to apologize for their behavior and help with the cleanup, most of the class refused to cooperate," school spokesman Vince McGaskill said.

At this point, they should've just lined 'em all up at the nurse's office to give 'em an enema.

THAT would take the wind outa their little sails a bit!

When you're the only one suspende, then you have to do make up work and that sucks.

When everyone is suspended, there's no way teachers can have class. It just translates into a free day off. :D

"Suspending students is never desirable," McGaskill said. "In this case, the principal felt that strong, some may say shocking measures, were called for to spur change."

Oh my!
What a quandary!
Most of the students refused to apologize for the bad conduct and refused to clean up the mess.
Possible reasons:
1.Most of the students did not participate, and are sick and tired of apologizing and cleaning up after unruly students.
2.Most of the students are unruly and out of con-troll.

I think I need more information to form an opinion on this, even though I lean heavily towards reason #1.

well, considering that I refused to eat MCS cafeteria food for 12+ years, I can understand. (and Geeter's food isn't even that good) That is one way to protest bad food.

He could have expelled them like the idiots in this Tennessee school did for weapon possession (an earring):

But that would deprive the school of too much state aid.
