Bush Cheerfully Braves the Rain to Honor His Predecessor (Then leaves ASAP)
wash post ^ | Friday, November 19, 2004; Page A10 | Mike Allen

Bush had been scheduled to stay for about half an hour at the luncheon of Arkansas trout and chicken with barbecue sauce. But the opening ceremony had ended far behind schedule, and Bush's legendary devotion to punctuality is even more acute when he is heading for his ranch. Moments after the glasses clinked, his limousine was rolling, and reporters were running through the mud to scramble into their vans to try to catch up to him.

- - - - - - - -

LITTLE ROCK, Nov. 18 -- President Bush sat in a chilly downpour with his parents at the opening of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, grinned as he chatted animatedly with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) during a musical interlude by Bono, and told the shivering audience that President Bill Clinton had "showed himself to be much more than a good politician."

Bush, the father of 22-year-old twins, patted Chelsea Clinton's back several times while her parents were buried under their umbrellas. In his six-minute remarks, he said, "Perhaps the Clintons' greatest achievement is their daughter."

Arkansas in on the way to the GWBush ranch. It's usually flyover country but GW decided to make a pit stop at the traitor42x library ceremonies.

The Bush family definitely was in enemy territory today, I don't blame them for cutting out of there!

When Clinton mentioned them, not one person applauded (all rat crowd), but when Bubba mentioned Jimmah Carter, the crowd erupted with applause! Sickening! I had to turn it off after that!

Howdy Doody Hubbell? That's a pretty sad "greatest achievement".

Anybody hear her little stoned-out speech? "Here's the geeeeeeze. The geeeeeeeeze!" I'd love to have a video capture of that.

Yes, thats just like President Bush's EP-3 apology ("WE'RE SORRY we're going to have to sell the most technologically advanced military equipment to Taiwan") to China.

"Shortly before leaving office," the president said as a military aide held an umbrella, "President Clinton said, 'Christ admonished us that our lives will be judged by how we do unto the least of our neighbors.' Throughout his career, Bill Clinton has done his best to live up to that standard."

Somehow I don't think that was a compliment for Clinton

"Sharp" is not in the equation; ego is.
Arrogantly delusional people rarely feel the sharp sting of sarcasm.
Bubba is probably glowing and crowing over the "compliment".

We know this is true.
Otherwise, why would kerry have allowed such humiliating "photo ops" to be splashed all over the media?

In his mind, he wasn't a dorky guy who catches a football like a frightened 9 year old girl...he was Knute Rockne, winning the big game.

Their egomania deafens them to the mocking laughter.
Instead, they see only approving smiles.

Bizarre, pathetic, but true...:)

I didn't watch the ceremony - it's just a bit hard for me to take too seriously any ceremony that takes place in front of a double-wide on stilts. Reminds me of the scene in the movie Vacation where the family goes to visit their redneck cousins.

Good to hear Dubya and Laura left ASAP.

I watched the Presidential speeches yesterday. Yes, Jimmy Carter got applause but so did both Presidents Bush. I thought the crowd was polite. They were not cheering wildly but I would not have expected it. Bush 41 got a few laughs as did GWB.

I heard they were expecting 120,000 and because of the rain there were only about 30,000. Maybe some of the more hateful dem witches knew the rain would melt them so they stayed home.

Off topic but relative to Wellstone, his '92 campaign manager just got 8 years for all kinds of fraud in the Minnesota-Iowa area. Lying to banks to get loans to buy minor league hockey teams, etc.

During the live dedication, I got my play by play from the live thread running yesterday. A couple of posters were quite upset that President Bush said nice, polite and complimentary things about Clinton. Yet last night, I watched the replay on cspan. The innuendos intertwined in the President's comments were great. He referred to Virginia Kelly, Clinton's mother, as a working woman. (I pictured an Arkansas street corner.) When he said Clinton had showed himself, visions of Paula Jones' ordeal ran through my head. EEEW!

Yet Clinton just sat there showing no reaction. He looked quite old and as though couldn't hear. At one point, he turned to Hillary and I thought he was asking her what was being said. They both appeared miserable and I'm sure they were blaming God for the weather that literally ruined their day.

The contrast between his words and the lib mantra of how GWB fosters hate and division was glaring. Although the hardcore will continue to see GWB as the Great Satan - many fence sitters will be impressed with his magnaminity.

You know Bubba was going crazy trying to decide if Dubya meant them or not.

President Bush, always the gentleman, held Chelsea's umbrella while she took to the podium to "accept the keys" to the building. She walked back and Dubya gave it back to her. I like how he looks folks right in the eye...WHAT A GUY! I'm sure he was on his best behaviors since his Mom was there, but he's the type of guy who would do this anyway.
