Zarqawi Group Beheads Two Iraqi Soldiers

DUBAI (Reuters) - The group led by al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi said it beheaded two Iraqi soldiers in broad daylight in Mosul, a statement found on an Islamist Web site on Friday said.

"They were both slaughtered in Mosul in front of a large group of people," the statement by Al Qaeda Organization of Holy War in Iraq (news - web sites) said. The claim, dated Nov. 18, could not be immediately verified.

"Just when the enemies of God thought they would crush us with their tyrannical military campaign in Falluja...the al Qaeda organization in Iraq slaughtered two 'National Guards' on Thursday afternoon," the statement said, adding the men killed were at the rank of major and lieutenant.

U.S. and Iraqi troops this month launched a campaign to crush insurgents, including Zarqawi's group, in the rebel town of Falluja west of Baghdad. The U.S. military says it has taken control of the city, but the offensive has fueled violence across Iraq's Sunni Muslim heartland, especially in Mosul in the north. Zarqawi's group has claimed responsibility for hostage beheadings and some of Iraq's bloodiest suicide attacks.

This is a big mistake on our part. Letting them get clobbered like this won't help the recruiting rate. We need to have our guys work with their guys. If we put up a police station, we need to put a few of our guys in for a few weeks or more. And provide some real fire power.

Welcome to FR.

It sickens me to think that those who did this are also being paid for it. I don't understand why our offers of bounty (significantly more than what AQ is offering) aren't useful among the Iraqi citizenry.

Note to Zarqawi.

These beheadings don't shock us anymore. They just make us mad. I assume the Iraqis are starting to feel the same way.

Actually, this has the opposite effect. Everytime the police stations are bombed, more people show up the next day to work. When Zarqawi's group killed the busload, soldiers still went into Fallujah and fought. The update I got today said that people in what used to be Al Sadr city (the slum part of Baghdad) followed troops patrolling asking how to apply for police officer jobs.

The people of Iraq are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel; they see we are not going to desert them. It will get incredibly better.

If we needed reminding, that Marine in the mosque had the right idea. We need to kill these guys. Shoot on sight. No prisoners, no time outs, just dead.

They show these Ragheaded gunmen on the streets. The Iraqi police should have some trucks (Armoured) with some heavy weapons and soldiers in to just ride around and pounce on these Ba$tards. They could coordinate their attacks with other disguised armored units and attack helicopters.

Letting them get clobbered like this won't help the recruiting rate.

Actually, based on previous experiences of attacks on Iraqi military bases, police stations, etc., these kind of attacks actually ENCOURAGE recruitment in Iraqi national services.

I know the US is offering a bounty on Zarqawi and I'm sure it is sizable.

But here is my sincere offer:

$100.00 US cash for the apprehension of this coward. If a US Marine does it I will donate the cash to the Navy Relief Fund.

If an Iraqi does it I will do my best to get the $100 to him/her via the US Embassy.

We may soon see live snuff on Al-Jazeera. That's the next step after this. The tactic is shock, shock, shock. Can't you see it now? Al-Jazeera 'journalists' filming a live beheading.

Try that beheading crap in front of a large crowd of decent human beings and it won't exactly work out the way intended. Shame on this "large crowd" for not being large in guts.

MOSUL, Iraq, Nov. 19 - As many as a dozen beheaded corpses have been discovered in western Mosul, while in Baghdad today Iraqi and American troops killed at least three people during a raid on an influential Sunni mosque that had been accused of inciting terrorism against United States forces.

[...]

Some of the beheaded bodies found in Mosul are thought to have been Iraqi soldiers killed for collaborating with Americans. Tonight, an official with the Army battalion that oversees the most dangerous and insurgent-ridden portions of western Mosul said that the decapitated bodies had not yet been recovered because of concerns they might be booby-trapped to trigger explosions when moved.

[...}

A 35-year-old businessman in Mosul who said he was a witness to the executions, Senan Shukri, said that the two Iraqi soldiers were brought by car to a public square, where they were surrounded and beheaded immediately. The killers then announced that anyone who removed the bodies would also be beheaded, Mr. Shukri said. "The bodies are still on the street because they have threatened everybody not to come near them," he said.

Once the Iraqis realize that their future is in their hands and their blood will have to be spilled to protect their future, I think you will see them continue to sign up for the national guard and police force when their own patriotism and pride kick in. And I think you will be surprised how the good Iraqis tire quickly when it is their own being beheaded, and fight back in ways we would never expect. Remember, because the Baghdad office of the ACLU (Arabian Civil Liberties Union) hasn't opened yet, they don't have to run a kinder and gentler interrogation process.

Actually, I think that the next media-defined 'atrocity' is going to be some of these Iraqi National Guardsmen getting medieval on some insurgent 'prisoners'.

The American military had to go through the Kasserine Pass before they ever got to Normandy. The Iraqi National Guard is on the steepest learning curve there is right now.

I would bet my next paycheck that there are a hardcore group of them sitting around a table right now with a plan for some payback.

The day is going to come when the insurgents are going to be trying to give up to Americans rather than fall into the hands of the Iraqi National Guard, and the dumb SOBs have only themselves to blame when they do summary executions like this.

oh yeah.........the bounty on Zarqawi went from 10 to 25 million a few weeks ago.........don't these people appreciate capitalism.........you know how many IED's and AK 47's you could buy with 25 million......I think we should begin ritual torture at this point......nothing fancy.....just tearing out fingernails, blinding by hot poker...stuff they are used to

I'd be more than happy if you are both right. If you are it bodes very well for their future as a country. Kind of reminds me of the opening in the movie Green Beret. Where the Aldo Ray and Raymond St Jacques (Muldoon/Doc McGee) are talking to reporters. And Doc McGee says - "there is always some little fellow willing to step up and fight".

That is the ticket. We have to hang in there at least until they have their election. They still have to assume that we could leave early and a bloodbath would follow. Any reasonable man would have to assume that. We have to get them past that point.

Got a feeling, just a feeling mind you, that this little action is going to only make the Iraqi Army very, very pissed.

I think it is a severe tactical (or strategic?) mistake for Zawqawi to go down this road of beheading Iraqi soldiers. I'm guessing that the Iraqi military will be much more willing to repay brutality for brutality than the western forces. When the Iraqi forces finally get their feet under them for real, Zarqawi's henchmen might have a war on their hands that they don't want any part of.

Islam hates democracy because democracy permits the truth to be spoken.

True believers in Islam cannot permit the truth to be spoken about Islam. At its heart, Islam is about hatred, and violence and murder.

Who else do you know that can be described that way? There is someone.

This war is just beginning.

That's it, you filthy ape. Saw the heads off two Iraqis in front of their fellow citizens, with the United States Gaddamned Marine Corps two steps behind and ready to give you a rectal exam with a .50 cal ammo belt, business end first. Methinks that bounty on your head is starting to feel quite heavy, yes?

these kind of things akes me think that if Zarqawi is caught he should be ritually slaughtered on live television, and then sending the tape over to Al Jazeera to give to Osama, and label it "payback's a b*tch!"

don't assume that. the iraqi's reaction could be - we will cower in fear.

this is why zarqawi attacks the police and the iraqi forces - he knows that the US cannot shoulder this burden month after month, taking casualties constantly. if the iraqis aren't up to this task, after a while, something has to give.

After UBL is gone...after Zarqawi is dead...there are thousands of more.

...Islam produces leaders of evil the way sharks replace teeth.

Pull one out...there are an almost infinite number of replacements.

We are not just fighting humans but an ideology of hatred.

We will not lose, but we have most certainly failed to define the enemy if we think he is UBL or Zarqawi.

Zarqawi, a Jordanian, beheading Iraqi soldiers in Iraq. Bad move Abu !! Now go and pray that the Iraqis will not find you first. It could be a slow, very painful one. And they'll make sure you don't get any virgins. So all this would have been for nothing.

And any embedded reporters who can't remember who they're dependent upon to keep their head attached while they're busy looking through their viewfinder should stick to nature photography.
