French Jews blast government decision to air Hezbollah TV

By Reuters

PARIS - Jewish groups have objected to a French government decision to allow the television arm of Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas to continue broadcasting to Europe using a French satellite operator.

The CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish organisations accused the government of failing to protect citizens from broadcasts by Hezbollah's al-Manar TV, which CRIF says includes anti-Semitic films that incite Muslims to attack Jews.

"We French citizens are under attack as Jews by this television," CRIF president Roger Cuikerman said on Friday.

Arabic-language satellite television is popular with France's five million Muslims, mostly of North African descent.

Al-Manar angered groups representing France's 600,000 Jews last year when it broadcast a series about a Zionist plot to dominate the world during the high-viewing month-long Islamic festival of Ramadan.

CRIF had sought to ban al-Manar and condemned this latest decision by France's Higher Audiovisual Council (CSA) to allow it to keep broadcasting over French satellite operator Eutelsat.

"The Republic should protect all its citizens and not give in to external pressures," Cuikerman said in a statement.

The CSA announced the agreement with al-Manar on Friday in a document containing a long list of commitments to unbiased journalism that al-Manar must accept to continue broadcasting.

In its statement, the CSA declared that some broadcasts it had viewed broke French law because they could incite hate or violence against people for religious or national reasons and stoke tensions between different groups living in Europe.

"Your signature on this agreement implies that you formally renounce broadcasting such programmes on a signal using a satellite subject to French law," the CSA statement said in an address to al-Manar's management.

Al-Manar said in a statement that it had "no problem with French laws and that it was prepared to comply with the legal requirements to broadcast in French territory."

The CSA took al-Manar to court last August after its drama "The Diaspora", which depicts a Zionist plot to dominate the world, provoked uproar. It called the programme "intolerable".

The court ruled the CSA could only ban the station if it refused to apply for authorisation, but Manar applied for it.

Manar's Head of News Hassan Fadlallah in Beirut said he did not foresee any change following the agreement. The "Diaspora" series was "a special case and it does not follow that all of Manar's programmes are similar to this type of series," he said.

France contains western Europe's biggest Jewish and Muslim communities and tense relations between them have increased over the life of a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation which began in 2000.

The United States and Britain classify Hezbollah, supported by Syria and Iran, as a terrorist group but France does not. Hezbollah was instrumental in helping to force Israeli troops to withdraw from south Lebanon in 2000 after a 22-year occupation.

In another generation the French will have many tv news choices -- Hezbollah tv, Hamas tv, Islamic Jihad tv, al Qaeda tv. .....and those will probably be the only choices.

The rise of antisemitism in Europe continues unabated. This time America should throw open the borders to Jews fleeing the persecution. In WWII we diddled while Hitler instituted the Final Solution. Not again Europe!!

Where does the EU stand on this? Seems to me some of "new Europe" would be very opposed to this. The EU sounds like another UN. France, in both, does whatever it pleases.

Well, not to rain on anyone's parade, but Sharon did ask the French Jews to 'come home' not too long ago due to Jewish persecution. Perhaps he knew more than we (they) did! Prescient? Hmmm.......... If I were Jewish and living in France (or Europe), I would leave ASAP. Of course, I wouldn't be living there in the first place.

It seems as though the French have not learned anything from their past during World War Two? This portion of not so distant French history is not taught to school children.

The Islams and French have a lot in common. One is that they're both experts in beheadings.

Ask Marie Antoinette.

Sharon is correct. Jews living in neo-Vichy France must seriously consider leaving for Israel, or a safer location, before the situation becomes too dangerous triggered by the invasion of Muslims many of which adhere to jihadic thinking and actions.

Fanatical Islamists have very long memories. In terms of France we must recall there was Muslim invasion of France (Western Gaul-Frankish Empire) all the way to Loire rivière. In the year In 732 Abd-er-Rahman, Governor of Islamic Spain (al-Andalus), crossed the Pyrenees at the head of an immense army, overcame Duke Eudes, and advanced as far as the Loire, pillaging and burning as he went. In October, 732, Charles Martel's Frankish army met Abd-er-Rahman outside of Tours and defeated and slew him in a battle (the Battle of Poitiers) which must ever remain one of the great events in the history of the world, as upon its issue depended whether Christian Civilization should continue or Islam prevail throughout Europe.

Also dopn't forget the battle for Vienna in 1683. The Austrians and Germans werfe losing and Islam was about to win. They would have grabbed all of Europe. The Pope had set up a defense pact with the King of Poland, Jan Sobieski. The Polish calvary or Hussars were a formidable foe. The poor but incredibly brave Polish cavalry would be slaughtered a few centuries later by the mechanized Nazis.

Anyway, Vienna was with a day or so of falling. The Poles came crashing through the Muslims lines on 9-12-1683 (note one day after 9-11). The Germans and Austrians also counter attacked against the Jihadists.

The Muslims were smashed that day and would not make another attempt to take over Europe for a while.

How the Europeans have forgotten 1400 years of Islamic terror, conquest and murder is beyond me. The Dutch are at a fork in the road - submit or fight.

The is an excellent historical point which proves Islamic armies were always attempting to penetrate the heart of Europe for conquest. I found these paintings of Jan Sobieski. The battle which resolved the siege of Vienna the Turks lost about 15,000 men in the fighting, compared to approximately 4,000 for the allied Christian forces.
