[history]
President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

Beats Kerry blaming the Secret Service for everything and Clinton using them to conceal the affairs of the day.

For some reason this makes me smile ... I guess the idea of the Prez bailing out a Secret Service agent is just comical.

If I was guarding the President, I would not let anyone keep me out. Kudos to the agent, and to that great cowboy, George W. Bush.

Here's the part not included in the [post...says a ;lot for the President.
"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."
"They are with me...if they don't come in, I don't come in". Issues settled.

The last paragraph was the best...
"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."
He spoke, and things were resolved. My heroes have always been cowboys.

Why would the Chilean security guards not offer the normal deference to the security detail of a visiting dignitary? Was this an offhanded international slap at President Bush; something to embarrass the US? President Bush stepped up and took care of the incident personally, instead of instructing someone else to do it. I love the man! I still suspect Chile wanted to embarrass the US and the President.

This is my favorite part. He left the President of Chile to go help his Secret Service agent. Now that just says it all.

Secret Service agents are supposed to protect the President and protect in a manner which will not bring embarrassment to the President. That President Bush had to intervene on behalf of the Secret Service agent might say to someone higher up within the ranks of the Secret Service that the agent gave the appearance of not doing his job.
Now I'm wondering if the agent will be reprimanded or blamed in any way by his Secret Service supervisors for any part in the disagreement with the Chilean security. It is my hope that he isn't, but those guys in the Secret Service have very rigid rules and regs to follow.
I am very proud that we reelected an honorable and real man to lead our country. God Bless President Bush.
