President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

Why does the President even go to these corrupt, third-world cesspools? He should send them f*ing memos, that's all. WE need him HERE! Tell the Chileans to piss off.

Ken,
I think your comments have been clear-headed and correct.
This situation should never have resulted in President Bush actually WADING INTO THE FRAY.
The SS agents should have a contingency plan that mirrors what you suggested: a clear, loud 'call' to the President and other SS agents that something unusual was afoot _to immediately alert them_. Their job would then be to completely close ranks around the President and, with just a split second to decide, determine if he should be thrown to the ground to be physically protected on-the-spot or hustled out of there as quickly as possible.

See also this SHORT EXCERPT from the Washington Post:
...Bush and the first lady had gone inside the hall to pose for photos with Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife, Luisa Duran. Having either heard the commotion or realizing something was amiss, Bush then broke away.

He returned to the hall's entrance and reached over a crowd of people, pointing at his agent. Bush then braced himself against someone and grabbed the agent, who walked through the wall of people who had been blocking his way.

Bush adjusted his right cuff link in one swift motion, as if shaking the dust off, and headed into dinner...

Maybe we could all get together, hold the Dims down, and force medication down their throats. They are already seeing doctors. Sorta like a mass healing thing. They sure do need it. Something is terrible off kilter with them.

U.S. President George W. Bush (R) speaks with Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi during a break in the annual meeting of the 21 member countries of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), in Santiago, November 20, 2004.

Yes - so? These are the only SS nearby?

If so, then I share you concern. I'm assuming that there are more, than those three and the one trapped behind the crowd. Perhaps I'm being naive and optimistic.

I think you are right. This was a very serious situation. TAHnk God, Bush is all right.

I just hope he finishes his trip safely.

He is planning to also go to Cartagena!

"On Monday, Bush plans to stop in Cartagena, Colombia, to meet with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe before continuing on to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, for the Thanksgiving holiday. "

Since when is it the job of the SS to look at the President? It's their job to recognize and neutralize the threat.

If their eyes were on the President, I'd presume they weren't SS, and were a potential danger.
