In an extraordinary display of physical bravado, President Bush personally overrode Chilean security officials Saturday night who were blocking his Secret Service bodyguards from accompanying him to a state dinner in Santiago.
As Bush stepped inside the cultural center where the dinner was held, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president's agents from following, according to the Associated Press.
are there any video's of our beloved President kicking some butt?? I've only seen still photo's. Thanks
A good, concise video link is at http://www.foxreno.com/news/3937064/detail.html#
...just click the link under the photo. (It's a pop-up video window-- disable any pop-up protector first.) A brief ad plays, then boom: you're in the action.
Watch the cable news channels...I'm sure they will run it.
It is not as big as they make it out to be.
Bush walked over...parted some waters.
He looked better that Presidential....He looked Texan!
Were the Chileans arrogant? Maybe this is a sign of extremely high security there.
Are there reports out as to WHY the Chilean police were blocking Bush's security detail from entering the building? I've heard lots of recounts of this whole thing, have seen the footage replayed several times, but as yet have not heard anyone explain what was really going on, and why the Chilean police were doing this.
FOX news has shone the fracus several times. It was great to see how he handle this event.
WOW....That's why people elected bush. He's a real man that know's how to get things done, even if he has to get his own hands dirty. I wonder what the french poodle jean-francois kerry would have done? Called the UN?
Rumor is the cooks only had appetizers for 47
In an extraordinary display of physical bravado, President Bush personally overrode Chilean security officials Saturday night who were blocking his Secret Service bodyguards from accompanying him to a state dinner in Santiago.
As Bush stepped inside the cultural center where the dinner was held, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president's agents from following, according to the Associated Press.
While posing inside for pictures with Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife, Luisa Duran, Bush noticed that a shoving match had erupted between his security team and the Chilean guards.
Confronting the Chilean guards head-on, Bush returned to the door and reached through group to pull his agent from the scrum and into the building.
Looking annoyed, Bush proceeded to straighten his shirt cuffs and returned to the dinner.
"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan told the AP. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."
The presidential altercation was widely broadcast on Chilean TV.
Bush was in Chile for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
Kerry would have ran, hidden, and asked for a purple heart.
I saw at that Clinton LIEbrary...he had someone holding his umbrella for him as he walked around.
what a punk.
I LOVE 'W'
HOWEVER, to make it sound like he rode on his white horse and rescued a damsel in distress is FOOLISH.
He just pulled the Chilean Agent to get his attention, who was NOT stopping the American Agent because he is arrogant, but because in South-America, an American President is always in 'more' danger than any other place (except for middle east), and especially for an un-popular President, that risk even goes higher and every one is anxious.
That guy was simply doing his job.
BTTT
I love the Chileans, but these guys were a--holes.
No, this sounds like arrogance or incompetence, probably on the part of Chili. These things are usually ironed out way in advance.
Absolutely!
Bush is my hero.
John
The only way this could have been anymore embarrassing, is if this turned into what happened in the basketball game the other night.
This is like something that would happen at a drug dealers convention.
Is there no planning that goes into these events for the leader of the free world? Or does everyone just show up?
LOL!
I saw the photo(s) of the incident and I saw the eyes of one of the Chilean police officer eyes on the aol picture , and he seem to me to have assassin eyes.
I think deep inside that this event was a assassination attempt. Taking the S.S. out and away from our President would of left him alone and open.
This is what I feel. I think it would be a good idea to get out of Chile as soon as possible. I have a bad feeling about this.
Oh yeah! he's the Man.
The little indicators that pop up and tell the metal of the man...
copy/pasted/emailed to everyone.
waiting for the "Bush creates International faux pas" crappola
A forewarning for folks who might want to click the link...you need RealPlayer which is spyware extraordinaire. I won't have it on my PC. Just a note to folks who don't want it either.
In other news.....I am watching NBC and they just showed an on board camera view of a NASCAR Driver spinning off the track into the in field.
I'm not impressed. Looks like any weekday morning or afternoon on 635 in Dallas.
this is exactly how it would go down - who knows what plans Bush may have foiled - we will never know -
One thing Bush knows: he has had the biggest bullseye on him than anyone world wide - and it just got a lot bigger with the election - with the inside enemy at the top of the assassination list of characters.
Let's don't forget skeerry's involvement in the group that was planning the assassination of senators back in the 70's. These people are still around - many in high level positions now.
It wouldn't be the first pres. to be assassinated by opposition 'forces" - EVEN of their own party. If they'll take out one of thier own, how much more dedicated to an oppositon pres.
Look at image(pic) number 2 and #3 on aol news :

Look closely at his eyes, and what do you think ?
Right, and if there was an actual security problem Bush had the guts to walk right into the middle of it. Though that does make me nervous its just the kind of man he is.
As far as I'm concerned, you are right on target, Orlando.
President Bush absolutely did the right thing in this situation. I feel some attempt on him may have been averted by his swift actions. My hope is he gets out of there soon.
I agree. Get our President OUT ASAP !!!
Some twit on CNN was claiming that Bush had to "plead" for his agent to be released.
What a guy.
ok
That's exactly what I thought!!
Pleading TEXAS style - physically into the melee -
Please. This was not an 'extraordinary display of physical bravado'.
Video of Bush pulling Secret Service Agent away from the Chilean security agents, trying to stop him from getting in:

It's a 45 min video -- Bush's arrival starts at minute 18 and it goes for a few minutes.
In role reversal, president rescues Secret Service agent

Good detailed description in above article. The Chileans were just being nasty -- at the expense of the security of the President of the US.
"The Secret Service source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the president's security detail and that the Chileans had argued about security procedures all day and that he wasn't surprised to see last night's skirmish unfold.
The Chileans, he said, were determined to take charge of security, but the president of the United States is the only world leader who takes his bodyguards with him wherever he goes. Normally, foreign countries defer to that demand. The Chilean security detail resisted, the source said, and was determined to take a stand at the dinner.
"That's what the argument this afternoon was about," he said. "I saw this coming."
Chilean security knew that the Secret Service always accompanies the president and knows how to identify them by the pins on their lapels, the source said, but blocked them anyway. "
===
And a follow up, showing that the Chileans refuse to allow the necessary security precautions here:
***President Of Chile Cancels Guests Because Of USSS Demands: GWB BACKS THE USSS***
"The newspaper, citing high-level Chilean sources, said Chile was unwilling to accept security measures sought by the US secret service for today's official dinner in Santiago's ornate presidential palace.
The measures included a demand that all guests for the official dinner pass through metal detectors at the La Moneda palace, but the demand was rejected by Lagos, the newspaper and radio reports said.
Chilean media said the state dinner had been planned for 200 guests. About 20 will attend the working dinner, to be held in Lagos' private dining room in the same building. "

We can't put our President at risk, to accomodate the delusions of the Chileans. Shame on them. All it takes is one mistake for an irrevocable tragedy to occur.

SANTIAGO, Chile -- President George W. Bush's hosts in Chile have scrapped plans for an elaborate formal dinner Sunday night in what local media say was a dispute over security.
A Santiago newspaper reports the Secret Service insisted that the 200 invited guests go through metal detectors, but Chilean President Ricardo Lagos wouldn't agree. Instead, the event will be a private working dinner for the two leaders and top aides. White House officials confirm the change of plans but won't say if security was an issue.
wouldn't be surprised if he lost lots of cardiac tissue
during his ordeal with heart disease. He may not be able
to muster much energy anymore. If you never see photo-ops
of him doing anything energetic it is very possible is that
he doesn't have the cardiac reserve anymore. Look for
staged events. I notice that most of his recent
appearances are rather sedentary in nature.
Can somebody please post images number 2 and 3 from aol news ? Please
Thanks protest1 and your 100% right !
Right, after Kerry wrote his own after action report.
Really? I don't see it. Is the choice available before or after I click on the link that says "Bush Secret Service scuffle" just below the pic? The popup I get gives no such choice.
I saw a report in Spanish on Chilean television that said that only the heads of state themselves were permitted to pass through that particular door, and that the security detail was supposed to go through a different door, on the side. However, they had been arguing about this all day, because Chilean security did not want to permit any entry at all to the security of any of the other countries in attendance; I think an agreement had probably been reached to let the US security pass, and the Chileans, either out of confusion or out of malice, suddenly decided to stop them.
IIRC, at the time of the Olympics, the Greeks tried to prevent US security from being armed. (They didn't get away with it, of course.)
We know what would have happened. He'd flee down the river and once it was all under control would come back blame everyone who fixed it and then claim credit and hold a big press conference and tell us all how swell he was.
Man am I glad I don't have to see that for the next 4 years.

Thanks. The problem was with my Firefox browser. The customize choice never shows. When I use IE it shows all the extra garbage in the popup window.
Did you hear The President?
"Get your hands off him!"
Great stuff. I wish I could have him over to my place on Super Bowl Sunday to watch the Patriots kick somebody's ass. I'll bet he's a hoot with a couple of beers in him.
