Here (by URL listed below and by direct link, above) is the North Korean TV news in prime time for November 20, 2004 (local time). It contains an interesting, short report of a minor African delegation paying a visit that day to the seized U.S.S. Pueblo , captured by Communist North Korea in 1968 and now relocated by the enemy to a tourist spot on the Taedong River in the capital city of Pyongyang.

Foreigners in North Korea are often taken to this American ship to see the damage to the craft from the attack, the interior of the ship, special communications rooms, the signed "confessions" of U.S. crew, etc., and of course to receive a hefty dose of DPRK propaganda.

Amazing to see a regieme waste so much money on keeping the old tub afloat when within the last decade they twice nearly met their demise from starvation,...and only saved by US charity.

It's not an old tub. Its still a commissioned United States Navy vessel. It is the property of the American people, its partially your property.

The foreigners who visited it while it remains illegally held should be barred from entering the United States ever.

The asshole who sent the U.S.S. Pueblo to North Korea with inadequate armament worked across the desk from my father at the Pentagon. My father urged him to fix the problem before the ship was deployed. In the end, the asshole who made the bad decision made Captain.

She is still an active commissioned US warship regardless of her physical condition. As such, she is ours. We should have fought to retrieve her when she was illegally seized. We should have retaken her when she was moved through international waters in recent years. Allowing a US warship to remain in the hands of pirates was and is a dishonor.

I look forward to the day when this "tub" reenters a US port with her ensign flying. I hope she outlasts the pirate regime that holds her captive.

She's still an active US Navy vessel. She'll be returned to her home port someday with her ensign flying when the regime who pirated her goes down or she'll go down at the hands of the enemy.

Indeed. But a few years ago she was transported through international waters, through the Sea of Japan, around South Korea, from Wonson to Pyongyang. When she reentered international waters we should have liberated her. Rumor was that she was wired with explosives and there was also a rumor that they put children on board. Perhaps I am harsh, but she should have been intercepted and the attempt made to retake her at that point.

Since no protection at all was provided for her, it's almost as if someone wanted the Pueblo to be captured or sunk.  But, why?   The real answers may be in hidden classified documents that might exist.  It would be good to know the complete story.  It is an embarrassment that NK still has possession of her.

I believe LBJ was president when it was captured and I am guessing that it was Clinton in office when it was moved. If Nixon had been president when it was captured, I do not think he would have allowed them to get away with it.

My father probably knew the whole story. Unfortunately, he died Dec 17, 2003. I can't ask him. I know the name of the individual who made the bad decision. It's probably not wise to expose that information.

Without knowing more of the story, I agree.   You might be able to get more information by communicating with the vets who set up the Pueblo website.  They are trying to piece together as much of what happened as they can discover.  You may have some info that they can use.  I'm sure they would be grateful for your input.  Here's a link to their website:

I've passed the name to the contact listed on their web page. The vets will have to do the legwork. I'm only privvy to the information because it was discussed over dinner as the Pueblo events unfolded. I have an iron clad memory of my father's dismay.
