The real story of what happened in that mosque
http://www.kevinsites.net/ ^ | November 21, 2004 | Kevin Sites

Posted on 11/22/2004 6:50:54 AM PST by eternalperspective

Since the shooting in the Mosque, I've been haunted that I have not been able to tell you directly what I saw or explain the process by which the world came to see it as well. As you know, I'm not some war zone tourist with a camera who doesn't understand that ugly things happen in combat. I've spent most of the last five years covering global conflict. But I have never in my career been a 'gotcha' reporter -- hoping for people to commit wrongdoings so I can catch them at it.

"I knew NBC would be responsible with the footage."

LIE

"When NBC aired the story 48-hours later, we did so in a way that attempted to highlight every possible mitigating issue for that Marine's actions. We wanted viewers to have a very clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the fighting on that frontline."

Don't you mean take a look at a slimy reporter playing CYA? This guy is going to be responsible for trashing the entire embed program. Other "journalists", including the very few good guys out there, are not going to be able to go out and cover the war first hand.

He not only betrayed our Marines, he even betrayed that braying pack of wolves called "journalists".

Yes, just another media LIBERAL. And a real jerk loser!!!
He will be a victim if he shows up again around REAL MARINES...maybe they should dress him up to look like a terrorist, put an AK-47 in his hands...and, well, you know the rest....the jerk deserves it.

"There are also reports that the mosque, where ten insurgents were killed and five wounded on Friday may have been re-occupied overnight."

I'm sorry but this comment from Site's accounting says it all. This Marine had reason to believe going in that the Mosque may have been re-occupied over night.

I've said this before and will say it again. That video footage should not have been released to the public without the military first approving it. IT HAS DONE NOTHING OTHER THAN TO UNDERMINE OUR OPERATIONS THERE. JUSTICE WOULD STILL BE SERVED AND AN INTERNAL HEARING CONDUCTED, AS WAS GOING ON WITH ABU GAREIB, BY THE MILITARY.

I do not fault this marine. This cameraman apparently does fault him.

The real story is; a Marine came upon the enemy who might have been dead or he was faking death.
The Marine did his job and eliminated the doubt.

If anyone cannot comprehend the dilemma then that's their problem.
The Marine did his job. Period!

We in the Marine Corps are paid to kill the enemy. If you wanted someone to go to Iraq and "play nice" then you sent the wrong Corps.

Any questions?
I thought not.

True, but this piece has been posted like a gillion times already... The title of the tripe of a commentary by Mr. Sites was called "An open letter to the Devil Dogs of the 3.1"...

So, I'm not sure what you mean when you say "even the best of us miss a search string once in a while".

In order to "miss" getting results on this title, on has to not have done a search at all.

Searching is mere courtesy when posting an article. Don't make excuses. The FREEPER is a n00b, period. Nudging him in the right direction is necessary education. Making fun of his inexperience can be a bonus. [wink]

1. Why don't you hang around the forum just a little more than a month or so before you start telling us how to or not to post. We know what we're doing.

2. Why don't you use your mouse, click on the link that was posted and read the original post and commentary

3. If you aren't up for a little ribbing, then hit the road, Jack.

Oh, by the way, welcome to FR.

Can't imagine why [duplicate posting] is viewed as a problem.

Creating a new thread, instead of continuing the old one, causes the readers to miss the comments which have already been made. Links should be posted exactly one time. When there is continued interest in the subject, continue that thread.

It was the Marine's call to make not anyone else's. That Marine's decesion was a life and death decesion, The Marine Lived, the enemy died. The Marine felt danger in his mind and self preservation in his heart decesions are made quickly on the battlefield.

I have told my son, I don't give a damn if the Bastards 10 years old, wearing a skirt or a dress, old or young matters not. If that SOB has a AK47 or a weapon of anykind, or you sense danger --- KILL IT!!

And I say the F###ER Kevin Sites can go straight to hell! Articles below more than show how the terrorists are fighting this guerrilla war. There is only one rule the marines must follow. COME BACK ALIVE TO YOUR FAMILIES AND A GRATEFUL NATION, AND KILL EVERY TERRORIST YOU CAN!!

Marines shoot insurgent who was 'playing dead' Australian ABC ^ | Nov. 22, 2004 | AFP

Posted on 11/21/2004 4:13:02 PM PST by FairOpinion

The US military says marines in Fallujah have shot and killed an insurgent who engaged them as he was faking being dead, a week after footage of a marine killing an apparently unarmed and wounded Iraqi caused a stir in the region.

"Marines from the 1st Marine Division shot and killed an insurgent who while faking dead opened fire on the marines who were conducting a security and clearing patrol through the streets," a military statement said.

Military sources had said that the rules of engagement were looser during the operation launched in Fallujah, for fear that rebels would be disguised, fake death or wear suicide explosives belts.

Violence sweeps Baghdad; Insurgents fire on US troops in Fallujah after waving white flag San Francisco Chronicle ^ | November 20, 2004 | ROBERT H. REID

Insurgents ambushed a U.S. patrol, killing a soldier, gunned down four government employees and clashed with American troops in neighborhoods across Baghdad on Saturday. Nine Iraqis died in fighting west of the capital -- another sign the insurgency remains potent despite the fall of its stronghold, Fallujah.

In Fallujah, where U.S. Marines and soldiers are still battling pockets of resistance, insurgents waved a white flag of surrender before opening fire on U.S. troops and causing casualties, Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Lyle Gilbert said Saturday without elaborating.

Sites claims that these terrorists had all been treated for wounds on the previous day. One man was on the floor covered with a blanket. That makes no sense. Why would you treat injuries and leave a man with his face buried in another wounded man and leaning on a wall? The position of the wounded Iraqis against the wall, one of which was shot by the marine, doesn't make any sense if they had been treated the day before. Medics would have moved all of them, right?

A number of you so need to take it down a notch. You trash an individual who fails to do an approriate search as if they have slept with your wife...you would do well to reevaluate your own standing...if that particular line did not sink in, go f**k yourself. You are a sick person.

Way to show 'em how to take it down a notch!!

The negative feedback is what teaches us to be careful to do a search. Negative feedback going way over the line could be a problem, but I haven't observed it. Certainly not on this thread. Someone who joined less than a month ago was called a n00b. That is acceptable, in my view.

Dude, justify the not searching any way you want. You either didn't do a search or you suck at searching...

The titled of the "article" on Kevin Sites' web site is "Open Letter to Devil Dogs of the 3.1".

Search just for "Devil Dogs"...you get this

The mods have left these 2 threads. There have been around 20 that I have seen that didn't use the actual title, but were duplicate posts.

I'm sick of seeing this story...be it here, on TV, on the radio, etc.

Have some respect for the people on this site by not cluttering things up with duplicate, triplicate, or 30-plicate postings.

It's simple forum etiquette. I don't understand why that's so hard?

For all you FR veterans. The most obvious way to search for a previous post would be to see if the original hyper-link was used. If you want to keep your quaint system of looking for titles when titles are almost always subjective, fine. But please don't act like this is rational, and the rest of the world outside your little clubhouse is a lower life form because they don't know the secret handshake. If you want your site to grow with intelligent contributors, you'll have to stop treating people like outsiders that aren't members of the club.

Number one, don't start a debate over whether the rules of the forum should be adhered to. That is a slam dunk. The forum's owners make the rules.

Number two, posting guidelines also demand that the original title of the linked content be included in the thread title. That makes the thread easier to find. It is not reasonable to force readers to find thread by searching for the hyper-link.

Number three, enhancing available search techniques is a perfectly reasonable request to respectfully make.

I just looked at the two postings that had the original title "Open Letter to Devil Dogs of the 3.1".
in them. Neither of the titles indicate what the article is about. This accounts for the fact that many people never saw this story before I posted it with a more descriptive title. If you post an article with a title that doesn't describe why a person should read it, they will not take the time to read it. This points out a major flaw in the the search feature of NR. If titles other than the original title is used, there is no way a person can find if a previous thread exists. But if someone uses the original title, he hazards the probability that people will not read the article since it doesn't describe what's important to the NR reader. Obviously, the answer is to either change the search criteria in the NR search engine, or require that the original hyper-link be included in the title. Since the later is not rational, I suggest that the NR team include the original hyperlink in the search criteria.
