ABC's Peter Jennings on Thursday night characterized Senator Arlen Specter as having "groveled" when he agreed, that if made the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, "he would not block the President's judicial nominees on the grounds that they oppose abortion." The night before on FNC, Washington Post reporter Ceci Connolly described those opposed to Specter getting the chairmanship as "far-right groups."
Jennings announced on the November 18 World News Tonight: "Other interesting development on Capitol Hill today, in the Senate, a senior Republican senator groveled. Arlen Specter assured Republicans that if he became Judiciary Committee Chairman he would not block the President's judicial nominees on the grounds that they oppose abortion. The pro-choice Senator Specter has been struggling to save his chairmanship of the Judicial Committee after he said abortion opponents would have a hard time winning confirmation and many conservatives around the country jumped all over him."
Wednesday night during the panel segment on FNC's Special Report with Brit Hume, Washington Post reporter Ceci Connolly, the MRC's Megan McCormack noticed, applied extremist labeling to opponents of Specter. Recalling how he beat Congressman Pat Toomey in a primary, she asserted that Toomey was "probably much more to the liking of many of these far-right groups that are now clamoring that they don't want Specter as Chairman."
I want pictures to verify!
He didn't look like he was groveling. More like taken to the wood shed.
"groveled"
- grovel (TRY TO PLEASE)
- grovel (MOVE)
Yawn.......
The danger of having a lifer (and in this case a geezer) in such a position is that he has very little to lose if he betrays the Republicans in the moment of truth.
This is not some guy who has a long career to look forward to, his time has come and gone. He can stab us in the back with very little to lose.
Maybe I am wrong (I hope I am) but that's the way I see it.
More of these people need to grovel. They DO work for US, ya know.
Must be the perspective. I consider myself mainstream.
You're our bitch now, Arlen...(according to Peetah, anyway!).
As long as these people get to the floor or a vote I have no probem with the scottish law expert voting NO.
It was sooo nice to see him sweating this out!
How much fun is it to be part of that vast right wing!!!!!!
Right Peter.
Instead of conservative Republicans groveling in front of Spector it's the other way around. As it should be.
Peter Jennings and the MSM are on life support. They have been increasingly vitriolic in their partisanship. They are speaking to an ever shrinking pool of useful idiots.
Long gone are the days when people sat passively by the soft, warm glow of their television screen and unquestioningly took in all that the anchors spoon fed them. America is rapidly leaving the network news, CNN, and other activist journalist outlets behind in our collective contrails.
The last election proved that even though the gates of media hell tried to prevail, in the end, despite all their obvious efforts they failed miserably.
Like Toto pulling back the curtain in the land of OZ, the jig is up, we have seen the real MSM. It's over, Peter, Dan, Tom, Judy, et. al. It's over.

What's the Scottish word for groveling?
Good one. Funny one about snarlin' Arlen back from April 2004--->>>>

the number of people who are fed up with a personality so alienating that it has led many in the state to dub him "Snarlin' Arlen" or "The Arlenator." Political analyst Stuart Rothenberg says of Specter: "He's an intimidating senator and very successful at any game of political 'Survivor.' "
Indeed, so zealous is Mr. Specter in securing grants for the National Institutes of Health that last month he was chastised on the Senate floor by Pete Domenici, a former chairman of the Budget Committee. Mr. Domenici, a well-known advocate of greater science funding, nonetheless said the NIH has "turned into pigs. You know, pigs! They can't keep their oinks closed. They send a senator down there to argue as if they're broke." Mr. Specter promptly rose to respond: "The NIH did not send this senator anywhere. My views arise from my own research."
According to Bill Frist, he got Spectre to put down in writing that he would not only move the President's judicial nominees out of the Committee for a vote, but that he would also "support" them.
To me, "support" means "vote for."
Be interesting to see how this plays out.
LOL
Let's kick him in the pants some more.
I think he ended up severely Gruntled.............!
You mean like dog collars and black leather? I think that's the usual groveling ensemble in Washington.
We don't want him to GROVEL - we want him to concede the judicial chair!
Souds good to me.
Arlen Specte needed to be made to grovel.
Proud to be a member of a Far Right Group. Wonder what kind of prism they used to sight throught to declare over 51 % of the nation to be Far Right?
From what I understand, the R's can take away his chairmanship if they want to, even after he gets the position.
Just solo. At least, it was so low that I didn't hear it.
Where's the pajamas?
Red <-------- proud member.
I will NEVER understand why Pres. Bush and the other PA Senator Rick Sanctorum came out in favor of Spector when he was running in the primary against Tuomey. Spector, as I understand, won my a close majority.
I believe I heard somewhere on the news that Spector signed a "pledge" that he would not oppose any candidate Bush nominated. We'll see.
Prediction:
Pro-life Rehnquist is the first to retire and MacSpecter "vigorously" DEFENDS the pro-life candidate Bush names to replace him. 20 RATs vote against the nominee but the other 80 senators support this nominee. Assuming Bush picked a sitting justice (Thomas?) to replace Rehnquist, Bush names a second court appointment, which Specter then "happily" works to confirm him as well. At this point, a bunch of conservative Senators say they were wrong to doubt Specter and that he's "on our side"...
One year later, a pro-abort justice (Stevens?) retires. Bush names a nominally pro-life, highly qualified minority justice (Estrada?) to replace him or her. Specter, realizing such a change could affect his precious "woman's constitutional right to choose", BORKS this nominee into oblivion. He says it has nothing to do with abortion ("after all, I voted for Thomas for Chief Justice"), but because his nominee is "insensitive" to "civil rights" or some other such garbage. Specter refuses to relent until Bush nominates some pro-abort RINO, and by that time it's too late to remove Snarlin' Arlen MacSpecter as Chairman, and the damage has been done.
Wait and see.
I think we will be safe with nominees for the first two years of the presidents second term. after that all bets are off.
Politically, the nation has shifted significantly since the days of Reagan when "far right" was liberalspeak for the fringe 10 percent on the right. The "far right" of 1980 is the bedrock center right of 2004.
The picture is not so rosy on the left. Today, only about one in five Americans self-identifies as being "liberal."
