The balance, for example, among and between prey, predators, and vegetation for food is subject to extremely wide fluctuation, and depends on outside variables such as weather and influx of other species. There are many examples of populations that exhaust a food supply and then move on.

Ya know, the scary problem is, if this writer gets infected with the virus he/she/it is concerned about, he/she/it might continue to reproduce.
Reminds me of a guy at my school who was trying to start a nature habitat. He greatly despised human intrusion on traditional habitats (footprints, waste bins, railings, ect), so his habitat would be completely sealed off to all humanity for all of eternity....
He should consider joining the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (I kid you not.....)

LESS dense?? He obviously has never driven cross country or flown over the U.S. This country is so sparsely populated as to be almost desolate except the coasts. (Blue States) I can drive 5 miles in three different directions and only count 20 to 30 houses and I live in NY State.
I once had a young Canadian at an old Yahoo club say that humans were a virus on the Earth. He was also a Europe worshipper. You wonder what these people are sticking around for. Why don't they do the good Earth a favor and perform an auto-ectomy?!?
