President George W. Bush's popularity rose to 55 percent in a poll released, three weeks after he won a November 2 presidential election.
The CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll also showed 42 percent of Americans do not believe Bush is doing a good job.
A Gallup poll conducted November 7-10, a week after the Republican leader defeated Democratic Senator John Kerry, showed that 53 percent of Americans approved of Bush's handling of his job. Only 48 percent approved of his performance in a survey taken October 29-31.
Monday's poll shows that outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell is the Bush administration's most popular official, with 87 percent saying they have a favorable impression of him.
Powell's presumptive successor, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, enjoys a 63 percent favorable rating, followed by Vice President Dick Cheney with 53 percent, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld with 51 percent and outgoing Attorney General John Ashcroft with 50 percent.
On Iraq, a majority of Americans, 51-42 percent, said Iraq's presidential elections, scheduled for January 30, will take place. But 49 percent doubted Washington will be able to keep Iraq on track toward a democratic government, according to the poll.
The poll also showed that 52 percent believe Iraqis will not accept the election results.
Three out of four Americans said they are worried about Iraq, with 35 percent saying they were "very worried" and 39 percent saying they were "fairly worried."
Americans said Iran (58 percent) and North Korea (60 percent), both of whom Bush in 2002 placed on an "axis of evil," represented long-term rather than immediate threats to the United States.
Cool. If Bush had that margin of approval on Nov. 2nd, he would have probably picked up MN, WI, MI and PA!
Now all the rat sheeple will run to their scam shrinks for more therapy. Time to start a franchise operation for treating electile dysfunction.
It might be interesting to see a similar poll to see how John F. Kerry's favorability rating has recovered since election day, except 30% of the people would probably answer "John Who?
I know I would if they called me...
I don't think it ever really went down.
Just the spin from the MSM.
It just proves that these polls are media driven. So long as the media directs barbs at Bush, his ratings fall. The minute the election's over, the media backs off, and his ratings rise.
The poll respondents are like trained seals.
