Say NO To Arnold For Prez (NO FOREIGN-Born Presidents)
Petition Online ^ | 11/23/2004 | Jon Alvarez

Posted on 11/23/2004 11:32:59 AM PST by Jon Alvarez

Like him or not, as Americans we should all stand together to say NO to any change in the US Constitution that would allow foreign-born, naturalized citizens to run for and hold the highest office in this great land...Apparently a movement is underway to change the US Constitution. We must stand up to this and oppose it.

I'm neither pro or con on this issue...BUT...

what the hell...we're all foreigners once or twice removed.

Ahnald has been here... since 1968...34 years....longer than some current Freepers natives.

Let's see what he does as Gov. first.

I am a hispanic totally against the ammendment..but I don't think you should demonize Arnold (picture of him crossed out). If this starts to be perceived as an anti-immigrant proposal and not a common sense US sovereignty protection...the tide can turn in favor of it...Let's oppose this in a smart way.....

This is a waste of time and energy because this thing will never ever pass, no opposition necessary.

"Can you just imagine for a moment a Saddam or a binLaden type run for the position and be ELECTED?"

We shouldn't allow naturalized citizens to be elected because there are some foreigners we wouldn't like to be president? How is that any more logical than demanding that U.S. citizens not be allowed to be president because we could elect an O.J. Simpson or an Al Sharpton?

I'm having a hard time deciding on which side to come down on this one. Part of me feels like we shouldn't mess with the Constitution, but that goes out the window when we all talk about same-sex marriages. The other part of me feels like if someone has been a citizen for over 20-25 years, then he/she has earned the right to at least pursue the Presidency.

There is a point, though: a child born to US citizens while they are stationed abroad (military personnel, or diplomats, for example) is a "born citizen, who happens to be foreign-born", and does not need naturalization. There is no reason to exclude such people, and no amendment for them would be needed, just an authoritative clarification of the original text.

I'm on board.

It's not Arnold who is the issue. What stops the Kofi Annons of the world from becoming American citizens and running for President? It will become a worldwide equivalent of Hillary Clinton moving to New York to run for Senate!

Only in his own mind will he ever be President.

my guess is that he does. most countries allow it, or at least don't forbid it. He would likely have had to renounce his Austrian Citizenship in the presence of an offical of the Republic of Austria and go thru a process to renounce his citizenship of Austria, very unlikely in my opinion. Likely he just let his passport expire and that legally he's still a citizen of the land of his birth.

No guys, it was Germany. Adlof Hitler was born in Brannau, Austria in 1885. He was not a natrual-born German, as much as he claimed he was.

Though I can't wildly enthusiastic about allowing foreign-born presidents, I can't get too upset about it either.

If it were to pass it would be the "Arnold Amendment." Who else would benefit? Albright? Kissinger has never been charismatic enough to run.
