Bill to Help Scouts Introduced
by Steve Jordahl, correspondent
Boy Scouts get help in bill that would grant specific protections.
With opposition to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) on the risefrom groups like the American Civil Liberities Union (ACLU) and, most recently, from a court ruling requiring the Pentagon to cut the group off from meeting on military basesthe group is getting help from Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
Frist has introduced the "Save Our Scouts" bill which will offer the beleaguered organization some protection. The bill states that no federal law can be interpreted to limit federal agencies from providing any form of support to the Boy Scouts.
Frist, a former Scout himself, said the ACLU's attack on the organization is indefensible and he is tired of seeing the organization being maligned.
"It's almost as if in (the) ACLU's view, where there's government, there cannot be faith," Frist said. "It's wrong, it doesn't make sense and thus I introduced a bill called 'Save Our Scouts.' "
The bill, however, failed to gain unanimous consent over the weekend with opposition coming from the Democratic side of the aisle. He hopes to avoid such partisanship in the next session of Congress.
"It's only common sense to pass this legislation," Frist explained. "The Boy Scouts of America is congressionally chartered. It's supported by (the) federal government in our laws today."
BSA spokesman Bob Bork said they appreciate the support.
"We're obviously heartened by all the outpouring of support by the House of Representatives and by the SenateSen. Frist in particular," Bork said. "We would be very happy if this bill were ultimately to become law in the next Congress."
With or without passage, he says the Scouts are not about to back down because of the attacks.
"We're never tired for standing up for traditional principles," Bork explained. "Family values, that's what we're about. We will never give in."
The ACLU refused to comment for this story.
TAKE ACTION
Sen. Frist is asking concerned Americans to call their senators and urge passage of the "Save Our Scouts" legislation when the Senate reconvenes. For help in contacting your senators, please see the CitizenLink Action Center.
The ACLU - America's domestic enemies. What they deserve, I cannot say here.
Go Frist!
The aclu has one important function - 99 percent of the time I see which side of an issue they support and know to support the opposing side. It works almost every time. They hate the American way of life and will do anything to turn the USA into a liberal/leftist/socialist form of government.
"BSA spokesman Bob Bork said they appreciate the support."
That's not the Bob Bork of Arlen Specter infamy, is it?
I sent letters to my reps. Thanks for that link. I am also sending out this page to my entire Pack 333 in California. It's time to get the ACLU out of the Scouts face. I am sick to death of them.
Here it is, the new Willard movie script for DNC '08!!
Nothing says Democratic base like thousands of gay attorneys!
It's time to reign in the ACLU. They have a Homosexual Chairman in charge of the ACLU, I wonder why they are so into defending Nambla and other Sick and Perverted Organizations.
They along with the FORD Foundation and Trezzzza's Organization want to do away with all references to the Judeo Christian Religion, to God, Jesus and any one who believes in the Religions.
A perfect example of the dems fighting against moral values.
This is good news. Thanks.
Go Bill, go!
The ACLU - Public Enemy Number ONE
That means "values voters" have been footing the bill for the ACLU's launching a juggernaut to remove Ten Commandments images, Christmas creches and Christmas carols, taking God out of the Pledge of Allegiance, and because they claim they have a civil right not to see the Ten Commandments, a civil right not to hear the word God in the Pledge of Allegiance, not to see a creche of the Baby Jesus, not to hear Christmas carols. The ACLU has collected a huge amount of our tax dollars in this left-handed fundraiser for the ACLU.
FReepers can silence the ACLU with a bit of activism. We need to insist our Congressmen repeal this abusive law that allows the ACLU to get rich on harassing Christian America. Congress must repeal laws enabling the ACLU's Christian-hating activities. Cut off the ACLU's funds and watch them disappear. Here's what we can do.
STEP ONE: We should contact our legislators demanding repeal. A friendly lawmaker must fashion a bill to repeal that FR can push.
STEP TWO The ACLU should be designated a "hate group" and be subjected to existing hate laws.
STEP THREE Taxpayers must demand the ACLU open its books and let us see who is funding them (they have refused to do this).
STEP FOUR The IRS should determine whether the ACLU is properly accounting for all its tax-funded activities, whether it is inflating legal costs, and whether it is using tax dollars for the purposes stated. We need to know whether the ACLU is engaged in Enron-style accounting and spending practices
Let's do it!
The IRS should determine whether the ACLU is properly accounting for all its tax-funded activities, whether it is inflating legal costs, and whether it is using tax dollars for the purposes stated. We need to know whether the ACLU is engaged in Enron-style accounting and spending practices.
The ACLU has rampaged over America, and American values, for too many years. It's time to find out what it's been costing us.
ANOTHER ACLU OUTRAGE:
A 43-foot tall cross that was erected atop Mt. Soledad in San Diego, California 50 years ago to honor our nations veterans faces imminent removal unless we act now.
An ACLU-backed atheist has waged a 15-year court battle to force removal of the famous cross, and a federal court has ordered the city of San Diego to remove it.
However, one option remains.
Federal law known as the Antiquities Act authorizes the President to designate landmarks and structures as national monuments and make the property on which the monument stands federal property. President Clinton used this law to establish numerous new national monuments during his term.
In addition, the Historic Sites Act allows the Secretary of the Interior to designate certain sites national historic landmarks and bring them under the care of the National Park Service.
Just this month, on Veterans' Day, a new plaque was added to the Mt. Soledad Memorial to honor President Reagan, further strengthening its status as a monument worthy of national protection. Thus, it is fitting that the President formally designate Mt. Soledad as a national memorial park for veterans, and save it from destruction at the hands of the ACLU.
President Bush can save the historic cross from another ACLU-backed removal by designating Mt. Soledad a national monument.
The Antiquities Act authorizes the President to designate landmarks and structures as national monuments. President Bush must make the Mount Soledad cross a national monument.
Looks like the ACLU might have something to worry about, besides thinking up ways to destroy America's Christian values.
yuppers - time to call it a night - stay in touch
Catch you next time around the site.
hope the RATS keep attacking the Scouts - this is the morals values that voters are POed about. The Scouts don't practice religon at meetings, they teach skills every young person can use. In some areas people love them and in others they are less visible - but they are an assest to the people that join and are active. They help kids have VALUES. As long as RATS attack kids we will add seats in the congress and state legislatures.

The ACLU is a bellweather..ALWAYS on the wrong side. Makes discernment easy. And Marylanders beware: we're next in line for ACLU to shove gay "marriage" down everyone's throat. There's a rally in January in Annapolis to show dissent from the sodomite agenda.
Very true. And if/when they do accomplish their goal of a God-free dictatorship here in the US they will be part of the ruling class. Power plays a major factor in their wants. The same is true for liberalism. It's all about power.
I still credit the Scouts for the best experiences of my youth. I can still recite the Oath and Scouts Law and believe both to be a great moral start for any kid. The bloody ACLU, the homos and liberals that support their organization are despicable! Hooray for Frist!
Frist is such a hit-and-miss Senator. Sometimes he's a weak-spined wimp but other times-BAM!
BUMP! (The ACLU is the Spawn of Satan.)
The ACLU is at war with normalcy.
Some of us think that defending what America stands for is equally important. (And terrorists in courtrooms are still terrorists.)
ACLU al Queda all same-same just different methods.
As for the ACLU, does anyone know how they are funded? To me they are one of America's biggest enemies.
>>>>>>does anyone know how they are funded?<<<<<<
It's an outrage that US laws, apparently passed during the
Watergate era, allows the ACLU to collect attorney's fees for makework----Christian-hatng lawsuits it itself launches.
Ping to a good thought.
Yep.
Thank you granny.
And have you gone to stoptheaclu.org?
Do you have a reference to the law -- would help when talking to Congress Critters.
Thanks, Liz. I just investigated some organization that's intent on getting rid of the ACLU.
The Democrats are sick. Just sick.
Apparently, when Congress contemplated the fee-shifting bill three decades ago, it never conceived that 42 U.S.C. §1988 would be used to secure fees in esoteric battles over the meaning of the establishment clause of the First Amendment.
The statute gives a court "discretion" to award attorneys' fees to the prevailing party in civil rights cases.
Study of the legislative history of the statute reveals that Congress intended this statute to apply to civil rights abuses, including certain race and sex discrimination cases, but not to arguments about whether Judge Roy Moore is allowed to display the Ten Commandments in the Alabama courthouse.
During the deliberations on the bill, the Senate penned that "in many cases arising under our civil rights laws, the citizen who must sue to enforce the law has little or no money with which to hire a lawyer."[6] In the recent First Amendment lawsuits filed by the ACLU, the tables are turned. Small school districts and municipalities can either defend lawsuits and risk paying the ACLU's attorneys' fees if they lose, or they can voluntarily submit to the ACLU's view of the Constitution.
Even if lawsuits over the establishment clause somehow fall within 42 U.S.C. §1988, the statute empowers courts with nothing more than "discretion" to award fees.
In these cases, one would expect courts to withhold awarding fees. Since this is not happening, Congress must take immediate action to clarify 42 U.S.C. §1988 to explicitly exclude lawsuits related to the acknowledgement of God.
Does it involve lining them up and sending them one by one through the gautlet where they will be struck senseless by one thousand feather duster bearing democrats. Somehow I didn't think so, as the Christmas song says, "making a list, and checking it twice". It is pretty obvious who is naughty, and who is nice.
Question: do the words civil liberies, appear anywhere in the Constitution of the United States of America?
Question: do lawyers for the aclu take an oath to do their duty to God and their country?
Question: Is the aclu a money making proposition at taxpayer expense?
Question: What is the relationship between sharks, pond scum, and the aclu?
Thanks for the info. Someone on TV (Fox, I think ) said the ACLU has an annual budget of $40 million. This should keep them from being considered "with little or no money." Seems like they need some attention.
What about 'gay' aka sodomite scout masters?
At this time, there are no Boy Sodomizing Scout Masters, at least none that are open about it. Should the ACLU's minions of Anti Christ Pro Homo attorneys succeed, it'll mean the end of the Boy Scouts. If none other than token efforts are utilized to keep them at bay, it'll mean the eventual end of the Boy Scouts, or at least never ending harrasment. It's all about gay activism. Gay marriage, Gay TV programs, Gay indoctrinazation programs in our elementary, middle & high schools, and the Universities....
Follow the facts and at every event you'll run straight into gay attorneys - and judges - making it all possible.
Are you referring, by chance, to the Atheist Communist Lesbian Union?
What if the President designated it a national historic landmark instead? Would it be protected then?
If a court ordered it taken down anyway, then the logical next step would be to condemn the Old North Church in Boston, e.g., and order the land put up for auction.
Ditto the National Cathedral in Washington, where President Bush gave his great address after the 9/11 attacks.
Happy holidays, junkie.
