That may be a valid sentiment as relates to western women, but Saudi women are essentially slaves and have about as much chance of escaping their situations on their own as our slaves did. Think about it: they can't drive, they have no access to money, they can't go out alone, the courts won't help them, their so-called religious advisors are busy debating how many times a week they should be beaten, and society says they're getting what they deserve. Can you imagine the hopelessness?
It seems miraculous that all the women there haven't killed themselves or their captors, but they're as much a product of that sick society as the men. If a little Saudi girl has been told every day of her life that she is evil and dirty and stupid and deserves pain, it's hardly surprising that she doesn't know to expect better for herself once she's grown.

I guess my query had to do with the western women that tolerate abuse.
As to the Saudis; their time is coming. In this day and age, with the threat from fanatical sheetheads on the rise in nearly every country, I'd say that these women will soon taste the freedoms of the west. We will see to that because it is becoming imperative to our national security.
Sad it is that we have to wait for the threat to become intolerable before we do that which is right and just.

That one is beyond me. The only thing I can think of is some kind of pathological self-loathing. In my book, tho, any woman who stays with an abuser is a fool, especially if she has kids. The first time, you're a victim. The second time, you're a volunteer.
