That one is beyond me. The only thing I can think of is some kind of pathological self-loathing. In my book, tho, any woman who stays with an abuser is a fool, especially if she has kids. The first time, you're a victim. The second time, you're a volunteer. It's different in Islamic-law countries, especially Saudi Arabia. Leaving the abusive situation is in essence a *real* death sentence in a country where it's considered legal and honorable for a father, brother, or husband to kill an "erring" female.

Yup. We already covered that and had drifted over to discussing why American women stay with abusers. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
