Susan Estrich on Teresa Heinz Kerry
Creators.com ^ | NOVEMBER 24, 2004 | Susan Estrich

Posted on 11/27/2004 12:02:43 PM PST by tjg

If anyone has some major rehabilitation work to do in the new year, it is Teresa Heinz Kerry. As the Kerrys head for their swank vacation home this year without the press corps tallying how much it cost, or the Secret Service following too closely on the slopes, the might-have-been first lady and still extremely major philanthropist has some major thinking to do about the damage she did to her own reputation in the major run that just ended.

Pointing the finger of blame continues, though Susan is pretty acurate her in her analysis of THK's screw ups.

Please don't post any comments on Susans personal appearance, voice, drinking habits or etc. Just as an experiment I'd like to see if we can have a discussion of Susans analysis without this turning into a DU like thread.

Susan, she doesn't care what anybody thinks of her. She pays people to tell her she's wonderful. And Kerry will never run for national office again.

They're not screw-ups if Teresa meant to do them. I've wondered several times if she ever really wanted John to win the election.

Susan Estrich needs to do some house cleaning of her own.

She can start by never, ever, going on TV again.

I bet there was a fair about (maybe .25%) of voters who voted for Bush, simply because having Momma-T as a first lady, is like having a warthog cater a party.

But it is a measure of the damage she did to her reputation in this campaign that the woman speaking was a Kerry supporter and a natural Teresa ally, who had been turned off by the sense that Teresa had not been a team player in this campaign; that she is an egocentric, arrogant, full-of-herself, spoiled rotten witch, with a checkbook, who thinks that just because she's rich she's smarter than anybody else.
If that's not the real Teresa Heinz Kerry, she needs to do some real work to step forward.

Susan gets it about THK for sure. But she could have gone on to add: "with a checkbook and a serious and obvious drug-and-alcohol problem..."

I have never seen Susan and don't know anything about her alleged drinking, but perhaps the "Lush Factor" didn't come up in her analysis of THK because it was a sensitive topic for her.

It seems to me that Teresa just behaved the way limousine liberals often do. There was nothing actually very unusual about her behavior.

How about the way that THK peeked around the curtain as she was introduced at the convention? I still can't believe that she thinks she is that cute that we would all say," Oh my! but she is clever!"

As you wish. She's standing in a forest and wondering where the trees are. I didn't vote for Kerry because he would have made one of the absolute worst presidents in US history, not because his wife is a classless shrew.

Has anyone ever noticed that when Susan is a guest on Fox News she looks like her simple, unadorned self, yet when she is a host, (subs for Alan Colmes or Greta), Fox does a real makeup number on her: she wears an elegant red suit, her hair is done in a glamourous updo, and she wears enough lip gloss to have its own area code. I almost don't recognize her. To me, she cleans up nice. It does say something about how FNC wants their female reporters to look, like the newsbreak readers. They must buy lip gloss by the gallon.

And Kerry will never run for national office again.

I'm going to be a contrarian here, and say that he will indeed make another go of it.

And as you all know, my predictions have never led you astray.

(Refers to my impeccable prognostication of Nader's superb performance in the state of Michigan, Bill McCollum's successful run for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by former Sen. Graham and my accurate assessment of Team USA, which snatched the gold medal in basketball at the most recent Athenian Olympiad.)

...by the sense that Teresa...is an egocentric, arrogant, full-of-herself, spoiled rotten witch, with a checkbook, who thinks that just because she's rich she's smarter than anybody else

Ms. Estrich almost got it right. Mrs. Heinz-Kerry-Whatever doesn't give two hoots-in-a-holler what anyone thinks of her. She's one of the super-rich. In her mind we little people don't have meaningful opinions.

And that includes Ms. Estrich.

I agree. I would say she is passive/aggressive except so often she was just so outright angry. I think she felt "put upon" that she actually had to campaign as in "Don't you know who I am?!"

She pretty much does what she wants...and it really came across that she isn't "in love" with Kerry. What a contrast with the Bush's or the Cheney's!

In hindsight I'm glad THK made the Eva Peron type speech.

She let us know exactly the kind of Worst Lady we'd get.

Even the libs over at DU call her a "skank."

Maybe, but how many fencesitters caught Mama T.'s act and contrasted it with Laura Bush's conduct? How many women decided that the best thing for them to do on Election Day was to vote for the housewife/mother of twins/teacher/librarian who never worked a day in her life, according to TH-K?

Terry was so breathtakingly appalling in public that it actually made me wince...

...she was listening to no one; that no one could tell her anything.

Ms. Estrich is correct. Apparently Teresa felt that the campaign had been bought and paid for, and that everyone on the Dem side respected that purchase.

My (admittedly catty) prediction is that the Kerrys may be sleeping in separate mansions by this time next year.

Why do they get secret service protection at all? I would have thought when the campaign ended they wouldn't need it. If they need personal security then they ought to pay for it on their own.

Susan E is either got wrong or is afraid to tell the truth. The truth is, THK is a type: a very wealthy woman who has lived for so many years in the bubble or privilege and wealth that she genuinely doesn't care what people think. More than likely, she is even a little perturbed at having been told that she has to care. Consequently, she comes off as a deranged beatnik, if beatniks wore $800 slacks. This is even worse than Hillary, since most people can recognize her type -- much more down market -- she's the hyper-aggressive Century 21 real estate broker or the asst. general manager of the local mall.

Yeah you're right! Susan is passive/aggressive..Did anyone see her during the election talking to Brit Hume.. he slipped (i think) and called her a "know it all" and told her to explain some stuff etc...anyway, if looks could kill, Brit would be as dead as a door nail right now"...He apologized every which way at the end of the interview, but she cut him no slack!
