Greens at it again: Recounts filed in Nevada and New Mexico
Cobb ^

Posted on 11/29/2004 2:35:59 PM PST by Next_Time_NJ

With your help, we are standing up for the right to vote, and the right for votes to be counted. David Cobb of the Green Party and Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian Party have filed for a recount of the presidential ballots cast in Ohio, New Mexico, and Nevada, and have filed a lawsuit in Ohio to make sure there is sufficient time to recount every ballot. The initial Ohio recount filing fees and expenses were paid with the help of thousands of small donations from all over the country. We appreciate your support of the recount, and of a more open and accountable vote-counting process.

"It's about the liberals trying to sew discontent and create an uprising."

I don't agree with your interpretation of what is happening here. The way I see it an open investigation of the alleged problems will PREVENT an uprising in the future. I say let them investigate. From what I understand this cost is not borne by the state or the taxpayers, but by those who initiate the recount as it's not due to the "close vote".

There are real problems with the way voting was conducted in some of these places. I have read accounts where they literally found ballots signed by precinct captains in the garbage can outside one Ohio counting facility.

If there are real cases of fraud, intimidation, computer problems, etc... then everything should be done to prevent it from happening in the future.

This is not about overturning the election. Bush won. This is about fixing problems in our election system. Problems that if left unchecked could end up benefitting the liberals you complain so much about - you don't want that right?

As Republicans keep saying, Bush won - so why are so many fighting these recounts and investigations? If the GAO and the League of Women's Voters has come out and said there should be investigations then there is obviously enough evidence of some type of wrongdoing or errors to warrant just concern.

Another point in relation to the elections and these recounts is the fact that if it were all done on paper we would not have any tampering charges appearing in connection with the computerized voting machines. I don't care how dang long it takes to count the votes. Paper ballots cannot be as easily manipulated as a computer database, or scanning apparatus (lint, smudges, etc...).

(BTW - in one precinct in Ohio almost half the votes for Kerry wound up in Badnarik's column due to a database malfunction. What if it were Bush's votes that wound up there instead?)

Why do they have any right to dump this on the people of Ohio?

Because they are liberals. It is a birthright that entitles liberals to spend other people's money.

I think it is very telling that the 'libertarian' candidate, who supposedly represents a party that is morally opposed to government wasting the money of those who produced it in the first place, is going out of his way to try to overturn the election-- the cost to taxpayers be damned.

"(Why are Libertarians)...suddenly in bed all over the country with the most socialist big government party? Can any Libertarians explain?

Cause the Republicans keep turning a deaf-ear to our concerns... Do Republicans not work with the Democrats (socialists) on some "bi-partisan" issues? Have you ever had to bite your tongue, or take medicine that tastes bad? It would be very stupid for us to ignore those who agree with us on these issues.

You will never see us agree with their economic goals... You will however see us stand up for a sound democratic electoral process and the right of all people to exercise their right to vote.

It is our ultimate hope that with a truly free and unbiased press, and with secure democratic elections that the Libertarian party could perhaps be an effective force against the tide of socialism in our country.

At least here in Colorado we'd love nothing more than to be the ones arguing with the Republicans in Denver rather than listening to the rantings of the Democrats. [Here in Colorado in 2000 the LP ran more candidates statewide than the Democrats.]

Don't dare use this as a convenient way to label libertarians as "socialists". You do our country a great disservice when you speak this way as most libertarians are very patriotic, and would fight to the death to protect our rights under the constitution. We see socialism as the greatest threat to liberty there is.

So much so that we in fact see a lot of REPUBLICAN proposals as socialist in nature! (i.e.; Bush's New Mental Health Commission and Mandatory Mental Screening of children - sounds vaguely socialist in nature does it not?)

I hope I've explained this adequately enough. If you still have genuine questions please feel free to respond. (o:

Jesse "the body" Ventura isn't a Libertarian and he never was. Ventura belonged to the Reform Party and is now part of the "Independent Party" which he formed for reform party supporters of he and Donald Trump.

I wish I had kept a post from another Freeper about this subject, but I didn't.

It was classic.

Anyway, the essence of the post was that the longer they count and recount, cry about a stolen election, and refuse to face the fact they lost, the less prepared they'll be when the next election rolls around.

And it's so true. The Democratic party is in disarray. They have no leader. They need a replacement for McAuliffe, but there are factions in the party and who knows who they'll end up with.

Think of it, Jesse Jackson, Badnarik and Cobb are essentially now the voices for the Democrats. It's just too weird!

Yes, and so besides confirming my suspicions that libertarianism sounds so good on paper, but has problems being truly put into practice, it's interesting how when there are about seven days left to play around with the vote recounts, this sudden flurry of suits...like let's set the whiners up with more mythology of how the election was stolen, while doing it in such a way that nothing solid can be done.

There is a strong strain of madness running in this country now...

The suit was filed weeks ago. As usual it's the MSM who missed it...

Don't these Greens have anything better to do... like hugging trees or something?
Don't they realize how many trees they'll kill by filing lawsuits & paperwork demanding recounts? LOL

"While I can understand that the Libertarians think the GOP is a sell-out to big government, why are they suddenly in bed all over the country with the most socialist big government party?
Can any Libertarians explain?"(writmeister)

Great question, worth a re-peat/post. I don't get it either.

Then you should definitely support Badnarik in all of this. Maybe then we could defeat the socialists in the Democratic party once and for all. Come to think of it I'd like nothing better than for the Democrats and all these young people in the green party to listen to Badnarik for a while. At least he believes in the Constitution, and is in favor of free trade (not socialism, welfare, and all the other socialistic programs the dems and greens try to advance).

Most of the people I've seen supporting the Greens and the Dems are very under- or mis-educated and have been strung along by their emotions. It has been my experience that when you sit down with them and explain how their programs would actually turn out they are shocked. Republicans on the other hand can't even get them to sit down with them. There is such hatred between the two groups right now. So, perhaps it is a good thing that the Libertarians are involved - a voice of semi-conservative sanity amidst the ravings of the liberal socialists?

They can file all the lawsuits that they want. The deadline for each state to finalize their appointments of electors is December 7. After that date, they can prove to their hearts content that every Ohio vote for Bush was cast by a Martian: it won't affect the result.

So where are independent conservative groups petitioning for recounts and prosecution of the fraud in WI, PA, and MI?

"There is a GOOD reason that liberal and libertarian begin the same."(E=MC2) I was thinking that way too about the question, until I remembered that a true Libertarian is supposed to believe in Liberty/Freedom, not Socialism or Marxism. I see your point easily though. As the (Socialist)Democratic party has declared itself the Liberal party as well, maybe we should force them to combine under one name with the Libertarian party so there is less confusion about whose party is Socialist? Is the Independent party Socialist as well?
