No details.
Peach, that is a very smart thing to do. I think I'll begin doing the same. Very smart. Thanks for the tip. (Going to lunch now. Will check back later.)
What a great picture with the towers in the background.
Why in the HELL has Mineta been able to lodge himself in that position like a PC J. Edgar Hoover?
LOL
I am not a Rudy fan for President. I would LOVE to see Zero Tolerance for Crime Rudy running DHS. He would be GREAT! I wanted to see him there or at Justice. If he gets DHS I could try to forgive the MECHA Gonzales at State.
NNNnnoooooooo Not Hutchison! I think he would have a confirmation fight on his hands. Hutch should go with "Garden" Ridge.
Yep.. there were NEVER any protests when Clinton was town ... / sarcasum >
The current US News has an article about her. I'm wondering if the MSM wants her to replace Ridge... She's Janet Reno's close adviser, but claimed to be Republican and gave $2,000 to BC campaign.
Speaking of busing to Canada .. check this out

And here .. they are charging a bus fee

Really? I saw her handle a news conference a few weeks back and thought she was brilliant.
She also is a registered Republican. Perhaps we should thank our lucky stars she was working in the Reno DOJ, possibly keeping God knows what in check.
Well! Someone tell Leon, he thinks these are Canadians assembling with sincere "grievances".
LOL
(I know, I know, Leon probably knows but "reports" the talking points anyway)
You got a better idea?
Not Lieberman!!! He is a loserman!
It's official... we got the memo.
With all due respect, you do know who sets the agenda for the Dept of Homeland Security, right.
D@mn. Forget Rudy...Homeland Security requires more competence than presence. Kerrik maybe if he'd take it.
I'm sure some are .. but my guess is that most are anarchists out to start trouble
But if you ask me ... they seemed to have hated Clinton more
Though I highly doubt that Leon would ever admit to it

Protesters set dozens of shops ablaze
Thousands of left-wing protesters chanting anti-American slogans have clashed with police and set dozens of shops ablaze at the start of a delayed state visit by US President Bill Clinton to Athens.
I doubt Rudy will take it - its a thankless job, no recognition when attacks are prevented, and only scorn about policies implemented; and god forbid there is an attack, its the "scapegoat" position.
Indeed it is, though it doesn't really have to be.
I am somewhat surprised there is so much dislike of Asa. I know him personally and he is a true conservative. He is much more of a conservative than Rudy though he does not have the star power. For those of you who have forgotten, Asa was awesome during the Clinton impeachment. The problem Asa has, that we all have sometimes, is that he has to do what is asked of him even if he may not completely agree with it. I doubt Asa wants an open boarder but the president does. Is Rudy going to do what he wants or what the president wants? If there is a better man or more true conservative in the administration, I'd love to know who it is.
I say Rudy Giuliani or Bernie Kerik fill the post, these guys know how to handle crime and terrorism, first hand, unlike the other Belt-way boys who sot back and watch.
Of course I do. But my problems with Ridge are based on more than just the administrations agenda.
I attended a Townhall Meeting last January at Channel 10 in San Diego; Ridge was the guest speaker. I had discussions with many other audience members while waiting for things to get rolling. Many, and I mean many were there for one reason and one reason only; to ask Ridge what, if anything he and the DHS is doing about our porous borders.
We were asked to write our questions down on index cards prior to the meeting. I filled out 5, all with the same question. Many around me had the same question also; what, if anything was the DHS doing about our porous borders? All this considered, you would think Ridge would have addressed the issue; even a cursory mention would have been acceptable. But I, and those around me, were astounded when the thing ended and not once did Ridge address that question. He avoided it completely. I had another chance and was going to ask him when I shook his hand after the event but the woman ahead of me beat me to it. His response was doublespeak, reminiscent of what you might hear at a John Kerry campaign stop .something to the affect of Weve got people on that. What a crock. I stepped out of line as I no longer wanted to shake his hand.
I know Ridge personally didnt choose the questions. And I know it is his job to follow the agenda of the pres. But for the 200+ San Diegans in attendance that evening, and many who watched it live on C-SPAN, he proved himself to be spineless in dealing with real issues of the common people. He visited a border town and refused to respond to border issues. He is a coward.
As I said, good riddance.
Unfortunately, you're probably right. Ridge, Hutchinson, Powell, and almost all of the borders team, have been along on Bush's wild hispandering ride. The only guy not on board, Ashcroft, is being replaced by a la Raza affiliate official.
Taking the job would HELP Rudy in 2008, this will thrust him back into the spotlight, and keep him there, ridge resigned after 2 years, so Rudy can resign at four.
Well, at least you can admit it. Maybe Asa should grow a spine and say so if he doesn't agree with it. If that means resignation, well....
Well, that's non-sensical. I asked about your mocking of terror alert levels, not about the other aspects of the position.
I wasn't defending Ridge, either, as I noted early on this thread I am no fan of his.
Nope, not anymore. The FAA is under Mineta, but the FAA's security functions were transferred to the newly created TSA, which is under Homeland Security.
I think y'all are missing one obvious choice for a replacement.
The replacement needs to be someone who's conservative. Someone who is truly passionate about protecting our nation. Someone who is even willing to buck the existing power structure to do what is right.
It would also be helpful to have someone who is an experienced administrator, like an ex-governor. But it should also be someone who is familiar with Washington politics. The President values loyalty, so it has to be someone he trusts.
Given that this is a politically risky job, the person selected should not be someone who is planning to seek elected office in the future. And even better if that person is moving out of their current job.
The President might even want to reach across the partisan divide and appoint someone who happens to be a Democrat.
Zell Miller seems to fit the bill pretty well.
You don't know Jack, Diddle E. Squat...
Ole!
wasnt there a rumor going around a few months ago that his health might be suffering a bit?
Anyway, hopefully he is getting out of there mostly intact.
I doubt that Rudy will take up the position, mainly because I dont think he wants to get too involved with any administration right now, which might dim his chances either in 2006 (not likely) or 2008 (his likely goal).
I think Tommy Franks would be an excellent choice or maybe Ollie North, if you can get him to take a pay cut....
Exactly, we need Rudy here in NY. Rudy can only fill the position until 2006 ;)
Your not alone. Ridge should have stayed Governor. He was not effective in this position.
Bears repeating. The man took a near impossible assignment and did his best. His detractors are still alive & free to criticize him. I add my thanks to him.
So let's simplify this whole color scheme thing...keep the alert level at RED until the borders are really secured.
When the POTUS finally settles down in Washington, I hope we begin to get the lowdown on exactly what he's promised
the sly Fox, and what compromises he's made with the North.
How can this man not understand what he's doing to this country with his border policy?
Excellent plan. I second that motion.
