Denver's holiday traditions include a Christmas Parade and the lighting of the City and County Building in downtown Denver.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper recently announced that the phrase "MERRY CHRISTMAS" on the outside of the building will be changed to "HAPPY HOLIDAYS," in yet another politically correct attack on the institution of Christmas. And while they're at it, the city is stopping a church group from participating in the annual "Parade of Lights", and singing Christmas Carols.
Parade organizers claim that Christmas Carols may be offensive to some people.
...a church group who wants to march in the Parade of Lights and sing Christmas carols will not be allowed to participate in the parade. Organizers say the parade is about the holidays, not Christmas, but leaders of the Faith Bible Chapel say that's ridiculous.Columnist Michelle Malkin has started the "Lump Of Coal" campaign, inviting readers to send a lump of coal to Denver's mayor, in the hopes of knocking some sense into his head."We can't pretend that Christ didn't exist and Christmas wasn't about his birthday, so we felt we could sing it and apparently that is not in social vogue anymore," said Pastor Gary Beasley, with the Faith Bible Chapel.
"This event is not one that has ever intended to have a religious message or a political message," said Susan Rogers, with the Downtown Denver Partnership.
She said no overtly religious symbols is allowed in the parade and that means participants can't carry "Merry Christmas" signs and can't sing traditional Christmas hymns.
If you want to participate, the address is:
Mayor John W. HickenlooperAnd before I hear from you PC pooh-poohers and naysayers, please not that Denver has held this tradition for many, many years, and the term "Merry Christmas" has ALWAYS been used.
Denver City and County Building
1437 Bannock Street, Suite 350
Denver, CO 80202
This overall practice of trying to minimize Christmas and the birth of Christ is completely off-base and out of line.
It seems that Christianity -- which is the religion of the majority of Americans -- is under attack as never before, mostly by PC-types who want to plow it under a wave of politically correct sayings and propaganda. We have a rogue court who has ruled that the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong, an elementary school principal who prohibits a teacher from using the Declaration of Independance in class because it mentions God (and of course, since the teacher is a Christian, the principal is "afraid" he might use the opportunity to preach in class, right?), and now we've got people insisting that Christmas Carols are wrong because they might "offend" people.
Well, quite frankly, in that instance, I don't mind offending people. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and I continue to sing and celebrate that fact from the rooftops. You are welcome to agree or not agree with me, but don't tell me that I can't celebrate that fact!
Oh. And the Faith Bible Chapel in Denver? Since they aren't being allowed to participate in Denver's Christmas Parade, they will walk the route an hour prior to the parade, singing Christmas Carols and passing out hot chocolate. God bless them!

Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
You know this is just like godless communism. They banned the use of the term 'CHRISTMAS' as well and had winter festivals instead of CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS.
In the spirit of the First Amendment, my liberal neighbors here in Massachusetts will be treated to the nativity scene on my front lawn, Santa on the Roof of my garage, and a large decorated Christmas tree in the front yard, with a modest blinking sign wishing them a Merry Christmas.
Oh, it will get worse. Next they'll want to use taxpayer funds to help pay for poor american muslims' trips to mecca.
What's this so called Mayor's name? Chickenlooper? I've never heard of such an animal. It must be related to the species politipooper, similar to the jackass. Yep, that's it, most asses are just like birds of a feather except they're asses and Denver has a big ass now. That town is starting to smell like San Francisco; dead fish, yuk.
I don't understand why they don't do what my junior high choir used to do back in the 80s. At our WINTER Concert we sang a couple religious Christmas Carols, a couple Hanukkah songs, and various non-religious holiday songs (Let it snow, etc..)
All you'd have to do is add in a few more songs nowdays for Kwanzaa and Yule - wouldn't that cover just about everyone?! I just don't understand what all the fuss is about.
I certainly didn't give up my Catholic upbringing simply because I sang a couple Hanukkah songs, it was actually kinda fun! AND, I don't remember any parents protesting on either side!
Merry Christmas, everybody!!
The Denver Post Jan.20,1905::Entire city Pauses for Prayer even at the high tide of business:Remarkable outburst of
gospel sentiment. . . noonday meetings draw congregations unprecedented in numbers." So published the DenverPost
but America yet reflected the original intent, then. We were
yet the "Christian nation" found reflected in our utterances and institutions by an honorable Supreme Court
in 1892.Now we more closely reflect the godless atheism of the failed Soviet system --and what Abu'l A'la Mawdudi, in
Islamic Law and Constitution' so aptly records of "Western
Secular Democracy . .. a divorce has been affected between
politics and religion, a sa result of this secularization,
the society, and particularly its politically active elements have ceased to attach muck or any importance to
morality and ethics."I will send Mayor Hickenlooper a
Christmas card while such sentiments are yet allowed in
America.

The parade will feature belly dancers, homosexual/transgendered indians, kung fu artisans, Chinese dragon dancers.

Doesn't sound like a Christmas parade to me.
Merry Chrismukah
A lump of coal might make this idiot think that we are trying to solve his energy problems.
I would rather send him a Christmas Card, with "Merry Christmas" or "Oh Holy Night" prominently visible on the front in very large and festive letters.
: )
I'm on it!
I thought you were kidding.
Nope.
Add me to the list. I am a teacher in NJ. I have on Christmas Carols right now.
Didn't "Kristalnacht" begin with the burning of Books and end with the burning of millions of people.
Christians better start responding to these totalatarian idiots who intend to criminalize being a christian and show them our feelings for our faith before we are done away with.
Jesus Christ is the reason for Christmas.
Just inform Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and the Denver City Council that they have become a dangerous city for Christian Americans. So you and your family will not be visiting Denver. If you own a corporation, tell him that you will not hold meetings in Denver.
Ever since the Islamofascist Mayor of Portland, Vera Katz, came out as a pro Islamofascist and anti America/GW mayor, we have stopped visiting Portland. We are not alone.
The State Department publishes a list of countries where Americans are not safe. We need to publish a list of anti Christian cities where Christians are not wanted and may not be safe.
Our personal list of anti Christian cities/areas to avoid:
San Francisco, Follywood, San Jose, Marin County, Oakland/ Berkley, Eugene, Oregon, Portland Oregon, Seattle and now Denver.
Many thanks for the email address list. EVERYONE SHOULD SEND AN EMAIL CHRISTMAS CARD TODAY -- they all need the blessing of CHRIST.
See also "Parade prohibition puzzles preacher" and "Denver bans words 'Merry Christmas' from traditional downtown parade of lights" for additional Freeper comments.
Let me get this straight. Any reference to the actual holiday is offensive to other religions, but a state sponsored sardonic parody is supposed to be accepted by Christians.
This parade is to Christians what a Minstrel Show is to Blacks. A Hate Crime is in the eye of the victim. Shut down this travesty.
This Christian foundation has been under attack for over a century in some quarters, such as academia and literary and artistic circles. In the early decades of the 20th Century, liberalism thoroughly infected the mainline Protestant denominations, whose Ivy League colleges, prep schools, seminaries, and other institutions were bulwarks of Christian faith and American civilization. Later in that century, the Roman Catholic Church in America was also swamped by a tide of liberalism, weakening it as a bulwark against the forces of darkness. The New Deal converted the Federal government from a limited role in society to a centralized, dominant element in American life.
The 1960s opened the floodgates of anti-Christian, un-American poison into our body politic. The sexual revolution, situation ethics, explicit sex and gore in the theater, then the movies, and finally TV, the hippie movement and its related drug culture, and multiculturalism were released like demons, destroying the lives of millions and undermining the foundations of American society.
As a result, Denver's 2004 "holiday" celebration involves the celebration of pagans and perverts. It is past time Christians boycotted this "holiday" nonsense and let not only the Denver City Council, but the corporate sponsors of this "holiday" such as the Metro Denver Ford dealers, Xcel Energy, Starbucks, et. al., of their displeasure at their endorsement of an anti-Christian, un-American agenda.
But hardly surprising.
Don't you love bureaucrats? It would be one thing if they had banned "Christmas" years ago but these losers are catching the wave on its way out.
And told him I was stationed at Lowry AFB in 1958.

Hey, Gang! Here's a good site for free virtual e-cards. There are some cute animated ones here that have very strong "reason for the season" Christmas themes to them. I'm on it! I will also inform the Mayor and his staff that since I am a white Christian, I now feel afraid to visit his city to see family, and I will not be visiting for business reasons, either. If he can't prove to me that I would be safe and free to express my beliefs within his city limits, I can no longer take the chance of visiting. Jerk!

Christmas is not just a religious holiday. It is an official FEDERAL holiday. This is akin to banning the term "Happy Thanksgiving" on Thanksgiving day.
Translation: It is unconstitutional for Congress to establish the Church of the United States of America and it is unconstitutional for Government to prohibit you from wishing someone a Merry Christmas.
A lawsuit all the way up to SCOTUS is in order here.
I just called the mayor's office. You can get right through. CALL! CALL! CALL!
The radical leftists did not learn their lesson on Nov. 2nd. We need to hold their heads under the water everytime they start to take a breath.
What kind of response did you get?
Let me get this straight. Any reference to the actual holiday is offensive to other religions, but a state sponsored sardonic parody is supposed to be accepted by Christians.
Yes, thanks to the ACLU and their ilk.
You can join the fight against these people by becoming involved with and supporting the following organizations:
American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) - http://www.aclj.org
Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) - http://www.thomasmore.org
Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) - http://www.alliancedefensefund.org
The Rutherford Institute - http://www.rutherford.org/
Here are just a few recent examples of how two of those organizations are fighting back:
ADF Contacts Over 3,600 School Districts Over Attempts To Censor Christmas
ADF: 700 lawyers ready to fight ACLU lawsuits
ADF: Pentagons' Warning About Boyscouts Is Absurd
Thomas More Law Center: Town of Palm Beach Pays $50,000 In Attorney Fees Apologizes To Women In Nativity Lawsuit
His rep said that the Mayor had not yet taken a position regarding the lighted city signs. He was polite and agreed to convey my thoughts to the Mayor.
Just a lump? I'd give them the whole strip mine :-)
I'd use the vocals (Mannheim Steamroller is strictly an instrumental group).
?.......Denver?
I thought it was Boulder that had the famous historic Christmas Parades?
...........but,.....maybe,...The Boulder anti-christians have taken control of Denver too?
....'roots'.....?
/sarcasm
BUMP!
bump! bump! bump!
The big question is: Who are these people? Who are the one's that allege they are offended? Is this an invisible enemy?
Who is it specifically?
This is the "they" they always speak of.
I'm offended by a parade that caters to the sexual fetishes of homosexuals/bisexuals/trysexuals/transexuals. No more Gay Pride Parades.
If you've EVER had a sexual thought of ANY kind in your life, join the parade. Only Sexual Bacchanal from now on. VD Day!
Uh, I was referring to Christmas and this event.
If the politically correct are going to supress Christians at parades centered around religious holidays, then they need to be equally opportunity equalizers and make sure that no one is offended at ANY parades.
Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades will now also honor slain Nazis, North Koreans, Viet Cong, and Iraqis least we offend anyone in the immigrant communities. < /sarcasm >
