I do not think the majority of the law abiding British public would take up an option to possess legally owned firearms. It's just not in our blood. Well, shut down your military academies. Demolish you castles enclosing thousands of ancient armories with armour. Cut your budget to nil for the Harrier and the rest of your air force. Sink your aircraft carriers. friggates and take your submarines to the Marianes Trench and let them implode 6 miles under the ocean. Britannia ruled the world for centuries. It appears the mind set is that the Brits don't have the guts to fight local thugs. Sorry state of affairs.

You are wrong. In our household, we have 3 ENGLISH 12 gauge sporting shotguns for trap and field. A five round semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun for Sporting Clays, Two antique .22s, three .357 revolvers with wadcutter and jacketed hollow point. A Kimber .45, and finally a Sig .380 P232 which I carry.
NO ONE touches my family. So... after you folks outlaw penknives, then you need to consider outlawing pencils, knitting needles and hedge trimmers.
