Bump!
Bump!!
Forgot one thing in the timeline of events, though.
In the intial stages of the SBVT controversy last summer, while the mainline MSM was still so OBVIOUSLY ignoring it and the "how ya doin' ol' Navy buddy" Kerry Camp calls went out, there was another couple of (fruitless/hopeless) actions taken by Kerry's Camp:
1) The crybaby pleadings to the FCC and FEC to somehow stop the ads.
2) The lawyer hard-ball psy war mind games: Letters to TV station managers in battleground states that had the ads, lightly but firmly threatening them w/ legal action if they continued to run the SBVT ads.
This whole thing is a great study in liberal intimidation, that basically failed because a) The SBVT possessed "The Truth"; and b) We had the INTERNET!
If I missed these in the story, please someone correct me.
I saw a pdf rendition of it somewhere on usenet during the Summer. I looked at it. That e-version lacked the photos.
IIRC, it was a collection of short recollections of supposedly real events.
Obviously, many of the stories would be hard to verify, but I was reminded of a "Band of Brothers"
scene where a group is talking about a guy, and completely mixes up the facts and motivations:
'The guy's a tiger under fire", when in actuality, he's a obsessed idiot trying to get a souvenir
from a dead German, endangering the mission.
As other have pointed out, the 250 million is ten times the donation amounts, but also the 100 to 1 is suspect. Even if 25 million is the number, that means the 527's spent 2.5 billion. 100 times 250 million is the national budget for some countries.
Swifties are heroes, each and every one. Amazing. They were the difference, and they'd better get a sit down dinner at the WH. Or a barbeque.
I thought I was the only one that was proud of that postcard...
My wife just brought home a oak frame to put my three Swifties thank you card to put up in my office...
I'm looking forward to Kerry's threatened suit against O'Neill and the SBVT and the counter suit. Rules of discovery could trump Kerry's refusal to sign a Form 180.
In for a penny, in for a pound......of flesh this time.
Someone put a bell on Sandy Berger, Please!
Time is on our side now, Tonk. Thanks for the ping.
Welcome to Free Republic
he sent me one thanking me for my offered prayers and financial support-saying that just knowing I was praying for him was all that he needed.
Class act only begins to describe this man. He, and every single one of Swifties are heros to me-forever and always. They are all owed a debt of gratitude we can never repay. I just wish I could shake all their hands and buy 'em a round.
Thank God for men like Steve Gardner, John O'Neil, and all the Swifties. Men like them are what keep this country great.
and FWIW, I'm all for continuing to hound the absolute hell out of Lurch. At least until he leaves or is impeached and removed from the Senate. He's just as unfit to be a Senator as he was unfit to be CIC and his 20 year record there proves that.
In my book he'd still be breaking rocks in Leavenworth (or Portsmouth?) but only after his his original sentence had been commuted to life at hard labor...
I am not a VN vet, but I spent 6 years AD. It took me less than a minute to make me watch Kerry closely.
Tonk,
Is sKerry still a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee?
If so, WHY?
Guess that proves there is NO intelligence in the Senate.
Beam me up, Scotty.
(From a non-VN vet)
The state of Maryland owns one of the last working Swift Boats, de-militerized of course. The last I knew, she was berthed at Solomons Island, at the confluence of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay. So your proposal to sail one up the Potomac on Inauguration day is doable, if you get right on it.

Thanks for the info. I'll explore what can be done.
Just received a thank you note from the author of this article who says the original, uncorrected draft was posted from I.C. The boo-boos are corrected in the latest version at "I.C.":
