French anti-terror magistrates wrapped up an investigation into four Islamists who may have helped British shoe bomber Richard Reid in France.
Le Parisien reports the suspects include the head of a Paris mosque, the leader of a Pakistani community and two other men.
Reid spent several days in Paris before boarding a Miami-bound plane in December 2001 with explosives stuffed in his sneakers. Last year, Reid was sentenced to life in prison by a U.S. court for trying to blow up the flight.
One of the French suspects, Imam Kamel Lakhram, reportedly acknowledged to French authorities Reid had slept at his mosque in northern Paris.
Another, Ghumal Mastapha Rama, president of a Pakistani Islamic association, originally admitted meeting Reid in July 2001 before retracting his remarks, Le Parisien said. Rama is suspected of being the French representative of a banned Saudi foundation.
Rama said originally two other men, Hassan El Cheguer and Hakim Mokhfi, had introduced him to Reid, the newspaper said.
OK, did they or not? Sheesh, great investigation!
This is rich. France investigating terror is like Ted Kennedy investigating a liquor store.
This just in to our news desk........Four muslims awarded the French Terrorism Medal in a ceremony hosted by French President Jock Sheetrock.
"the head of a Paris mosque . . . "
Ever notice how these investigations always seem to have the head of some mosque?
I'm sure the French performed an exemplary and marvelous investigation just like they did here:
What, me worry??
LOL! So true.
Have you been here all night...again?
Haahahhhhaaa... I have been pinged to every "shoe" thread since I joined the forum. Keep up the good work!
When they get to a civil war, let me know. I'll join the Spanish Guardia Nacional. They worked closely with the AF OSI. I need a change of scenery anyway. I'll take a leave of absence to get there.
