Always nice watching these shows with Mrs Bush. Can you imagine next year if it had been First Lady Heinz? Eeesh....
So we won't miss it again ping!
Thanks Howlin! Got my DVR set to record.
Thanks for the ping.
Will set my VCR.
Thank you muh deer.
***Always nice watching these shows with Mrs Bush. Can you imagine next year if it had been First Lady Heinz? Eeesh....***
She would have spoken in five languages and fallen into the tree.
But I will get to see this in just a little over two weeks...live, up close and personal. :-)
Thanks for the ping. Wouldn't want to miss this.
Thanks for the ping!
.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2-ALL

Barnie cam?
I loved the Barney cam last year!!
The decorations are spectacular, would love to be a volunteer there!!
My small house probably has as many decorations per square foot as they do since I'm a Christmas nut!!
Always looked forward to the gingerbread house design by the White House pastry chef who just retired, Roland Mesnier. I just discovered yesterday that you can buy his cakes at Collin Street Bakery.

Thanks, Libloather!!!
COOL thanks for the ping
I am so there I watch Home and Garden TV occassionally I watch that I hope certain Scottish Terrier make appearance
OOoooo - thanks - will be looking forward to this also.
Allegra, I'm so happy that you are coming home. Looks like you won't make it by Christmas, but close. I wish all of our men and women could be home for Christmas. Their sacrifice involves so many things we take for granted. There are no thanks that will suffice. God love you all and bless you with every blessing.
Here's your answer nutmeg. BTW, it's airing 9 times before Christmas giving us all an opportunity to see it.
Thanks for the reminder. HGTV got me through the campaign when I couldn't stand hearing another word from John F. Kerry on the news channels.
I watched the Animal Channel. Thought I saw Te-rey-sa a few times...
I also get a big kick out of 'What Not to Wear' on TLC.
I will! If all goes as scheduled, I'll be home on the 20th. Wooooohooooooo!!
I'll spend four days in DC with family and the rest of the time in my adopted home state - the Great State of Texas. :-D
Thank you for your kind words. We're doing all we can to make Christmas as cheerful as we can for our troops. The camp is starting to look downright festive.
Thank you for starting this thread. This is one of my favorite Christmas-themed shows all year! :-)
Thank you both for the pings. I can't wait... I am THERE Tuesday night! ;-)
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
Thank you Sweetie....Happy Holidays!
And thank you too! Happy Holidays!
I can't wait! I've had my vcr set for more than a week! I have to wonder how the alphabet networks can be so petty as to pass on airing this event. Ok, maybe I don't wonder so much as wonder why they don't just get over it.
Laura Bush is just one of the best first ladies ever and a fine role model for (us) women.
Can you imagine next year if it had been First Lady Heinz? Eeesh....
SHUDDER! I can well imagine how Tazmanian Tuh-ray-zuh would have hosted it. Blech. We dodged a bullet, at least for now.
Thanks for the schedule. I'd been wondering when this special would air. It's great every year.
Howlin, thanks for the ping. Saw the ad for this - it's going to be beautiful.
bump
bump back!
Wow - Allegra, I just looked at your page......my hat is off to you for your work in Iraq. Bless you. PLEASE tell every soldier you see before you leave, that we love and apreciate them and the work they are doing to keep our country safe. Safe journey and God Speed to you.
One hour bump...
Where is everyone?!
They just said "Willie the Cat" is going to make her debut tonight. In 4 years, I don't believe I've ever seen her other than that one familiar photo.
Hey, I'm watching this stuff. Very impressive...

False alarm. Willie was only shown in illustrations, not the real thing. The illustrations were adorable, though. I'd love to have a copy of that tour book.
Me, too. I wonder if you can order that book.

I watched Court TV to get away from the campaign.
So glad I won't miss the White House special this year.
I wonder if they might put the tour book on the WH website?
For those who didn't see the show, it was done by an illustrator of children's books and it looks like she turned the tour guide into just that. It had Barney and Willie in some kind of story based around the Christmas tree, Santa and music. It was really adorable.
My mother said Mrs. Heinz smells like a goat. I was hysterical with that comment!
In that order? I sure can find many more uses for beer than Mexican food - eh? (I have a dog - no real reason to worry about cats much...)
Updated pix! Get home soon and safe! Safe and soon works, too! Have someone videotape this special for you! You won't regret it! Please, stay in touch...
Just the perfume? (I'll never really get close enough to find out...)
LOL
We managed to cut up alot of people watching TV tonight and she was the best of all!

The tradition of a placing a decorated tree in the White House began in 1889 on Christmas morning during the Presidency of Benjamin Harrison. The President's grandchildren, young Benjamin and Mary McKee, led the Harrison household into the second floor Oval Room to take a look at the first White House Christmas tree, which was lit with candles. Filled stockings hung from the mantel, and presents, candy and nuts were distributed to family and staff. President Harrison gave turkeys and gloves to his employees, and he received a silver-dollar-shaped picture holder from his daughter, Mame Harrison McKee.
What began as a family gathering has become a national tradition. Over the years, the White House Christmas tree has reflected both the times and the tastes of the First Family. First Lady Frances Cleveland created a "technology savvy" tree in 1895 when she hung electric lights on the White House tree. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy began the tradition of Christmas Tree themes when she decorated the 1961 Christmas tree in toy trimmings from the Nutcracker Suite ballet by Tchaikovsky.
Today, the First Lady selects a theme and taps the talents of American artisans, who give life to the idea. Laura Bush chose "Home for the Holidays" for the 2001 theme, which features replicas of the family homes of the nation's Presidents.
